So via multiculturalism and political correctness, Sharia norms are now being enforced by the Dutch secular authorities.

It's still unknown what his defense will look like. But in today's paper Wilders says he might call radical Imams and other idiots to the stand in support of his defense.
"I find it horrible that I'm prosecuted" says Wilders. "This is a political trial and it's sad that I'm prosecuted as a criminal for only voicing my political opinions. I hope free speech will prevail. [But] I am convinced that the trial can only lead to my acquittal"....
It's the Dutch government that should be on trial....for cowardice, corruption and treason. But the Dutch people are getting the picture and showing increasing support for Wilders. If there were a general election tomorrow, he would win. This trial will make him even more popular. So let's look forward to seeing this whole disgraceful campaign backfiring in the face of the appeasers and exposing their betrayal of Holland and its people and heritage.

This trial should be viewed as a good thing. I have sent my Dutch relatives several Emails over the past year and shall start again asking them and their friends to stand firm for free speech and the bravest symbol in the Netherlands right now---Geert Wilders.
I told them I could not think of a greater travesty then to have Geert Wilders found guilty of speaking essentially the truth; let alone taking him to court on this.
It is time for all free nations and those who work to protect the right of free speech, especially the United States of America with its First Amendment to the constitution to let the Dutch Government know how obviously shameful a trial of free speech appears to Americans.

Yes, and as others have pointed out, this could bring Wilders' party more votes. The article itself points this out, in the continuation: "The trial might even gain him some extra votes. After all, he can be easily perceived as the political underdog, speaking up against a powerful, but very corrupt, Dutch political elite."
As for his defense, there should be plenty of quotations from the Koran and hadiths about the duty of Moslems to kill, smite, and subjugate unbelievers. Likewise plenty of quotes from present-day imams, jihadists, and terrorists, who cite the "holy books" to justify their actions. That would show who the real racists and hate-mongers are.
Wilders could portray himself as being like Mohammed, simply a "messenger". The words are not his, they are from others.
The fact that the words and images put forward by Geert are all true makes no difference to the Dutch elite prosecuting him. They seek total thought control so that no one in the Netherlands will get the real story on the origins of Islamic violence. They cannot tolerate even one independent voice. The mainstream media in Europe works together with their political elite to suppress any but the official line on Islam. Point out Muslim violence and Muslim hate speech -- you are a "hate-monger" and face defamation, financial ruin, and jail time. Will this be a trial by jury? In any case, can the jury or judges be intimidated? Muslims have murdered and threatened infidels before effectively - the Koran encourages Muslims to despise infidels anyway. Without such intimidation I think Geert Wilders will be vindicated and an even bigger hero, which would be very good news.

Although it's a bad thing for a good man like Wilders to have to go through, I think this trial will be good for the anti-jihad movement. If this gets massive worldwide publicity, I think a lot of intelligent folks in the West who have just been uninterested in this whole subject until now will be shocked to see the totalitarian repression of free speech favored by the leftist elites of Europe. Maybe I'm too biased to accurately judge this, but I think the Dutch government is making a huge mistake if they think bringing this debate out into the light is going to make Wilders' position seem extreme and their position seem rational.
Disturbing and yet fascinating. Definitely a comment of the first dimension about the time in which we live. Hopefully, as with the John Peter Zenger trial in colonial America, truth will prove to be an absolute and victorious defense against all charges. The Dutch court may try to pull what the prosecuting attorney tried to do in Australia back in 2004, when two Pakistani Christian pastors were on trial for "vilifying" Islam. While one of the pastors, Pastor Daniel Scot, was being cross-examined by the prosecuting attorney, he tried to answer her questions by referring directly to the text of the Koran, but the prosecuting attorney asked him not to read the actual passages, but only refer to their verse numbers -- because, she said, actually reading the passages out loud in court constituted "vilification" of Islam! You can't get more Orwellian than that.

Hesperado: What happened to the two pastors in Australia pretty much reflects what has happened to all of us because of Islam in our countries; it has cost us a lot of money, forced us to live with death threats, and taken us away from our Christian duties. To say it has not been worth it is the kindest thing I can think of to say, as a Christian who is spending too much time studying Islam.
It's fantastic that they are trying to prosecute him.

Speaking of Geert Wilders, I noticed that Charles Johnson has taken time out of his usual shtick of attacking Glenn Beck, Ron Paul, Tea Party protesters, and "Birthers" to take a swipe at Wilders as an "extremist". It seems Johnson never tires of his jihad against anti-jihadism. Robert Spencer, Pamela Geller, Paul Beliën, Diana West, Fjordman, Andrew Bostom, Filip Dewinter, and now Geert Wilders have all been denounced and renounced by CAIR's favorite blogger.
Virgil, Charles Johnson does appear to have become a mouthpiece for the Left and CAIR, even only unwittingly at times (but enough to qualify for the label "useful idiot"). I stopped reading him long ago.

It is puzzling for me to see Gert Wilders being prosecuted. Why is it happening? Perhaps decision has already been made to hand over the Dutch territories to islam for two possible reasons:
1. Perhaps the government is being blackmailed by islamic leaders. Dutch have no oil on their soil and oil companies weild a nasty clout in upper echelons of politics.
2. Perhaps government is worried about Christian population collapse in the country. You need 2.1 children per couple for stable population. The number for the Dutch is well below that. I do not know why we humans refuse to reproduce when we get comfortably rich. To keep the population numbers up (why? oh why?), muslims have to be imported and you can not even be seen to alienate them, I am assuming. The pious hope is the that the muslims will integrate, but I doubt it. If there will be any integration, it will be in the other direction. Once that starts to happen, it will proceed at astonishing speed, I can assure you.
So what is the government thinking? In one word, self-annihilation. But, given the population trends, can it be avoided?
