Swedish national, released from Gitmo, arrested in Pakistan on terror charges

Good thing we're closing Guantanamo and giving these poor innocents a new chance at life, eh? Gitmo Recidivism Update, and more on this story: "'Guantánamo Swede' arrested in Pakistan," from The Local, September 11 (thanks to Weasel Zippers):

One of the three Swedish nationals arrested nearly two weeks ago in Pakistan is Mehdi Ghezali, a former terror suspect who was released from the United States' Guantánamo Bay prison in 2004.

According to Sveriges Television (SVT), it was Ghezali, along with two other Swedes and several other foreigners, who was arrested by police in Pakistan on suspicions the group had ties with the Al-Qaeda terrorist network.

"We confiscated a laptop and $10,000 they had with them," said a spokesperson for the Pakistani military, according to the Expressen newspaper.

The arrests took place at a checkpoint in Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab province, when the group was reportedly on its way to southern Waziristan, a stronghold for the Taliban in Pakistan, near the border with Afghanistan.

The now 30-year-old Ghezali, a resident of Örebro in central Sweden, was arrested in December 2001 and put in custody of the US military shortly after the start of the campaign in Afghanistan.

He spent more than two years in a prison for terror suspects set up by the American military on its base in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

Ghezali, dubbed in the Swedish media as the "Guantánamo Swede", was never put on trial nor was he told why he had been detained. He was released from the prison in July 2004, whereupon he returned to Sweden....

a blast from the past regarding Muslims in Sweden:

We are making NEW terrorists by our actions. (NOT!)

At least this is what many people have been led to believe. The problem is, how many of us have changed our minds about any of this? Darn few, if any. I do not know why we can expect anyone else to be any different in this regard. Yes, a very few people are open minded enough to be open for suggestion, but this has been a very low percentage for a very long time. Certainly not high enough to count on for any type of meaningful cultural change. (Or political change for that matter.)

What I think scares many (Myself included) is that so many are so hostile to us. These 'detainees' are only the tip of a very large iceburg.

what the leftist msm drills into us as well as the Obama Demoncrats is all our fault we are so mean to these poor muslims and that if we just talk to them and be nice to them they will return our goodwill back to us. so as the One Obama applogizes to the world for America's poor actions, all will be forgiven. So the US and the West will taken down from within with this attitude. Those lovers of freedom will not allow this to happen.

You can't trust those Radical Lutheran Extremists!

I wonder if our Dear Leader has any comments about this?

Those responsible for the release of any Gitmo terrorists -who returned to terrorism- should be charged with criminal negligence and malfeasance in office, at the very least, and aiding the enemy, preferably.

Which is treason.

The government fools and judicial lunatics who assist in the undermining and endangering of our nation and our military are suicidally-stupid imbeciles.

And de facto traitors.

After a time in Pakistani custody, he'll be begging to be returned to GITMO.
