Why did the jews go to the al Aqsa mosque in the frist place?
The Jews do not go to 'the al aqsa mosque'.
The Jews go up to the Temple Mount: because it is the most holy place for Jews, the place where stood both Solomon's Temple and the Second Temple.
The Muslims, after they invaded and conquered Byzantine-held Jerusalem, seized the Temple Mount and have been squatting on it ever since. Until 1967 no Jew could even dream of being allowed onto that hilltop - nor any Christian, either.
The mosque squats sneeringly on top of Judaism's most holy site, for exactly the same reasons as mosques squat sneeringly on top of destroyed Hindu temples in many parts of India.

It seems that M. Dayan, although a brilliant general and having very good understanding of arab nature and psychology, did not know enough about Islam. He, too, believed that after arab butt-kicking one should employ arab heart-and-mind-winning. Somehow he could not see that Arab heart and mind belong to Islam even more than arab butt.
That delusion not only remained intact but is now established as a firm principle in Israel's and the West dealing with the mohammedan cult. From Gaza to Afghanistan to Pakistan, Sydney and Dearborn we refuse to believe we are dealing with mad hateful "religion" bent on our destruction. It is Masjid Al Aqsa...it has always been Masjid Al Aqsa...the furthest Mosque it is mentioned in Al Quran.
Abraham built Masjid Al Haram and then forty years later he built Masjid Al Aqsa, the second oldest structure built and dedicated to the Worship of One God...it is a structure built for One purpose and it predates Judaism.
What happened in between over the last four thousand years is just human history.

I only wish our dear Dominic Tabrar-Synge, archaeologist, was here to give one of his inimitable history lessons.
1. ABRAHAM WAS NOT A MUSLIM and never went anywhere near Arabia (re the bizarre claim that he built the kaaba!! ) 2. There is no record of any actual 'temple' having been on what we now call the Temple Mount, *until* Solomon - who was NOT A MUSLIM - built a temple to YHWH there, and then that temple, having been destroyed by Babylonian invaders, was replaced by another temple built after the Jews' return from Exile in Babylon, and that temple was in turn renovated and extended by Herod, and then was later on destroyed by Rome; and all of this happened long long before the death-and-war-cult called Islam, the Arab Imperial Religion, was ever cooked up out of the brain of abu al-kasim, called by Muslims 'Mohammed' but accurately diagnosed by Maimonides as 'ha-meshugga', the Mad One.
Our Mohammedtroll also wants us to believe the myth that Muslims treated Jews well, But 'better' than the Romans and the Babylonians doesn't necessarily mean very much. I observe he carefully doesn't mention the Zoroastrian Persians, whose rulers Cyrus and Darius allowed the Jews to return from exile and allowed them to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem. No *Muslim* ruler would have dreamed of allowing the Jews to rebuild the Temple...so in that, at least, the Muslims demonstrably treated Jews worse than did the non-Muslim Persians.
In any case, the great medieval Jewish philosopher and theologian, who had lived in various parts of the dar al Islam of his time, Maimonides, in his Letter to the Jews of Yemen, ca 1200 (who were being most atrociously persecuted at that time, even worse than usual, by their Muslim overlords) makes it clear that he thinks that the Arabs - the Muslims - have been worse persecutors of Jews *than anybody else, ever*.
