Wait a minute. Can we get Michael Kruse on this? How about Meredith Heagney? Or maybe even Honest Ibe Hooper and Brave Ahmed Rehab of CAIR? I mean, don't these people know that Islam doesn't call for the killing of apostates? Where is M. Cherif Bassiouni when you need him?
"Parliament takes on revised penal code," by Ahmed Naish for Minivan News, October 14 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
The revised penal code was sent to a seven member ad hoc committee today for further review with unanimous consent of MPs.All 60 MPs in attendance voted in favour of sending the bill to committee. The new penal code will come into effect a year after it is passed....
Existing laws and regulations, principles of Islamic sharia and norms and values acceptable to Maldivians were taken as the basis for drafting the law, he said.
Suood said difficulties arose when there were conflicts between the three. "Some Islamic sharia punishments are not enforced in the Maldives. For example, there is no amputation for thieves or death for apostates."
Another difficulty was disagreements among fiqh scholars in interpreting the Qur'an and the hadiths, he continued, and the traditional values and practices in the country were considered in such cases....
Several MPs said Islamic sharia should take precedence in specifying offences and punishments and spoke in favour of introducing the death penalty.
Ungoofaru MP Dr Afrashim Ali of the opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) said the penal code did not include offences specified in Islamic fiqh or law, adding it was obligatory to enforce punishments set out in Islam.
Apart from the Qu'ran and the hadiths, said Afrashim, the consensus (ijmah) of religious scholars should be taken into account when drafting such laws.
"Before looking at the laws of England or France, we have to look at the principles of sharia in Islam," he said. "I am not saying at all that we should not benefit from laws developed in England or France in 1,000 or 2,000 years."
While there was no objection to assimilating laws of non-Islamic countries, he said, it should not take precedence over Islamic laws....
While there was no objection to assimilating laws of non-Islamic countries, he said, it should not take precedence over Islamic laws....
If Islamic laws always take precedence, no assimilation is happening...Sharia trumps in every case...That's not just law, it's dictatorship...
I am not saying at all that we should not benefit from laws developed in England or France in 1,000 or 2,000 years.
By which time the Moslems will have taken over the world.

I'd like to see the equation used in this time estimate. Is his math similar to that used by Sandra Day O'Connor in her estimate that racial discrimination was justified for another 40 years?
Thanks, dear Robert, about keeping us informed. You're right, Michael Kruse, the baseball expert is really made for reporting about Islamic specialities in the Maldives, he's got such a profound knowledge about everything pertaining Islam he gave the evidence in the Rifqa Bary hearing.
Yep, and brave Ahmed Rehab, his name is a programme in itself, I think there's no need to elaborate on that.
I talked to somebody who spend his holidays in the Maldives. He was full of praise, the sea was crystal clear, the food great etc. He had only one small objection, as there were no indigenous women on the resort island, the guys working there suffered from a lack of sex. To alleviate their predicament they made holes in the curtains, to be able to watch the female tourists. The guy I talked to didn't appreciate that and gave them a pretty hard time. Please enlighten me, has that got anything to do with Muslim virtue? To the best of my knowledge, the self-appointed prophet was the most virtuous man who ever lived on this planet. I'm only asking.
From post above... To alleviate their predicament they made holes in the curtains, to be able to watch the female tourists.
I don't think Mahound ever cut holes in any curtains but he may have worn small mirrors on his sandals...
Actually, in news yesterday, the Maldives government ran a stunt of holding a cabinet meeting underwater (w/ diving gear, etc) to bring to attention the dangers of global warming. Well, that's one good thing about global warming - Islamic paradises like Maldives, Comoros will all go underwater, hopefully taking their populations w/ them. The UN and even US can do everything, but there's nothing they can do to stop ocean levels from rising.
With more serious problems to worry about http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125576872358891963.html one wonders how they've got time to fret about amputations and such.
The waters are rising. Don't expect any non-Muslim country to take any of the Muslims from the Maldives in -- especially not in light of reports such as this. We'll make provision, however, for the non-Muslims. Make your choice now, before those waters really rise.
