Obama offers multi-million-dollar technology fund for Muslim nations

Surely this will end the jihad, eh? Unfortunately, Obama (like everyone else in Washington) never seems to consider the possibility that the jihad rages against the West for reasons that arise from Islamic theology, not because of anything we can correct by showering goodies upon Muslim nations -- goodies that may well end up being used against the United States. "Obama offers millions in Muslim technology fund," from AFP, October 23 (thanks to Pamela):

WASHINGTON -- The White House Friday highlighted a new multi-million-dollar technology fund for Muslim nations, following a pledge made by President Barack Obama in his landmark speech to the Islamic world.

The White House said the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) had issued a call for proposals for the fund, which will provide financing of between 25 and 150 million dollars for selected projects and funds.

The Global Technology and Innovation Fund will "catalyze and facilitate private sector investments" throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa, the White House said in a statement.

Eligible projects would advance economic opportunity and create jobs in areas like technology, education, telecoms, media, business services and clean technology, the White House said.

OPIC said sample projects could help foster the development of new computer technology or telecommunications businesses, or widen access to broadband Internet services....

What? No Jobs for Americans. Obama Money cures everything!

Elections have consequences and l do hope Obama gets his ass kicked next election. l would ask other liberal Dems where is separation of State and Church? guess mosques dont count.

Of course. He is also a Muslim. He despises Jews and Christians.

Obama-shahada...'I'm not tired'...I'm all fired up and ready to go'...

...advance economic opportunity and create jobs...

Mahoundians love that kind of talk when it's directed at them...
It's code for 'The jizya is on its way'...

Mahound had no job...No technology...There was not one light switch or flush toilet in all of Arabia...the high technology of toilet paper was unknown...it still is in many quarters.
Toilet paper factories create jobs...but I bet they won't build any...The money will be used for weapons systems to use against kufr...what's left over go's to personal bank accounts and clandestine trips to Las Vegas...

For these funds, Jews, Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Animists and Atheists need not apply.

We know that opportunities like Medical School (in the UK) and Pharmaceutical College (in the USA) will remove all motivation for Jihad.

"Of course. He is also a Muslim. He despises Jews and Christians. "

That's why he has no Jews or Christians in his Cabinet, and never goes to church. Oh wait ...

The Mohammedan giving money to other Mohammedans.

"That's why he has no Jews or Christians in his Cabinet, and never goes to church. Oh wait ..." - Tom D

Exactly. His never attending church services or ever uttering the name "Jesus" speak volumes. Yet we're constantly being bombarded by Muslim stuff from him. And of course the Cairo speech was filled with lies about Islam.

But, here's the one that really does it for me: Hussein saying "My Muslim faith" in his interview last year with George Stephanopoulos. And George correcting him immediately after with, "You mean, my Christian faith."

That's called a Freudian slip. Hussein is definitely a Muslim. And we have EVERY RIGHT to be concerned about that, no matter what Colin Powell said. I lost all respect for Powell after his "So what if the U.S. President was a Muslim" remark. And you should read what Wafa Sultan has to say about that remark in her book, "A God Who Hates."

At last, the "hidden iman" has revealed himself! Obamahdi! Lead us into the new Caliphate!

The Russians think Rasulullahhaha is a Mahoundian also...A Sunni...There are a number of interesting articles about him in 'Pravda'...

Great idea.
Moslems, especially Saudi and Gulf State citizens, pour millions into jihad and influencing the West so we should then pay for their social, cultural, economic and political barbarism (very poor word as barbarians can be civilised - Rome v Gaul for example).

Technology for those which (not who), had they used their own technology to commit the atrocities of 9/11, would promptly have been stopped by security guards at the doors of the WTC and the Pentagon... Not a whole lot of power would have been needed to stop camel-riding stone-throwers.

As Frank Miller noted on his brilliantly, PC-free observation on these inbred bedouin savages that Buraq Arafat Saddam Hussein Osama has surrendered to, "Nobody questions why we, after Pearl Harbor, attacked Nazi Germany. It was because we were taking on a form of global fascism, we're doing the same thing now ... It seems to me quite obvious that our country and the entire Western World is up against an existential foe that knows exactly what it wants.... For some reason, nobody seems to be talking about who we're up against, and the sixth-century barbarism that they actually represent. These people saw people's heads off. They enslave women, they genitally mutilate their daughters, they do not behave by any cultural norms that are sensible to us. I’m speaking into a microphone that never could have been a product of their culture, and I'm living in a city where 3000 of my neighbors were killed by thieves of airplanes they never could have built."

Proud_ Kafir,

Enjoyed your quote from Frank Miller.

But, it's seventh-century barbarism, not "sixth."

Oh, yes, all of our advanced technology is being used against us by a people WHO NEVER COULD HAVE INVENTED THEM.

Oh, the irony. The terrible irony of it all. Human parasites and leeches are destroying our culture and we're letting them.

Is that what Pogo meant when he said "I have seen the enemy and it is us?" Because, the West is it's own worst enemy in the early 21st century.

Is there something missing in this article? Why would these be directed exclusively towards Muslim Countries. If there is funding for any project development it should be put out to any nation after all there are 196 countries on the planet.

Is this an effort at more appeasement towards countries that have a built in hate for Western ideologies and would prefer to destroy their miserable houses if possible.

But then I digress, after all we poor billions upon billions into Pakistan,Egypt, not to mention Iraq and Afghanistan and what do we get for all those billions year after year, decade after decade?

*opens up wallet, moth flies out* Uhhhh, note to the One, how about throwing some of that jizya back this way?????

Yet more to the Muslim world, the very world which is never grateful, whines continuously and wishes to do us in eventually. Dumb.

Instead of just handing out the money for free, why don't we try to get someting in exchange for it? Like...uh...I don't know...OIL!!!

The muslim world is flush with trillions of dollars of oil money. My wife who is researching Middle Eastern banking was astounded by the numbers.
And we who are in hock to the Chinese and are just printing more money, are giving what we have left for what?

Once again we see how easily the phrase "Muslim nations" rolls off the lips of the media. We also read here about the "Muslim community" and the "Muslim world."

Some of these phrases may have been used in the past by Obama but whether this funding announcement actually used that terminology or whether it is the spin of the press isn't clear.

With all the talk of democracy and progress being made in the Middle East why is it that such exclusionary phrases are still used?

Try envisioning the response that would accompany the announcements of an aid package for Jewish nations (actually "nation" since there's only one), financial assistance for the Christian world, funds for Hindu nations, and development dollars for the Buddhist community. Doesn't the definition of democracy include a separation of religion and state?

The separation of the globe's nations into the "Muslim world" and "everyone else" is giving undue consideration to one religion at the expense of others.

The use of the term "Muslim world" by the world's media must be stopped unless the "Muslim world" is prepared to accept that equal and respectful accommodation be made to the "Christian world."

Paying bonuses to pirates usually doesn't work well...

Oh, come on now, nothing to worry about here, it'll be just like funding our own SBIR program. Well, except in this case it may be an acronym for: Suicide Bomber Ignition Research.

Maybe at least Obama and his merry band of other "super-genius" communist numbnuts, who are so busy "fixing" our economy, will get a chuckle when that $150 million dollars won't buy a hand calculator.

What a plan. Truly impressive "progress".

I happen to know something that throws the egregiousness of this idiocy into even bolder relief.

I happen to know of an excellent fellow who is a Muslim by birth.

He's very much a classic western liberal and yet, has what seems to me rather a naive attachment to the more innocent aspects of mohammedan religious ritual. But it suits his nature. He's a fundamentally nice guy with no detectable malice in him toward anybody.

All that said he has an idealist (and to my eye naive) attachment to the idea of using some of the vast mohammedan oil wealth to promote entrepreneurship, technological advance and economic diversification in the mohammedan sphere of influence, most particularly around the gulf.

He has been pounding on the oil barons and their bankers and friends and politicos for literally years with this idea.

And mind you the man is, considered individually, brilliant, accomplished, socially polished and credentialed. And need I say fully inculcated in mohammedan ways.

The bottom line on the story is that the wealthy elite of the mohammedan countries just simply don't get it and won't play. I'm talking about the people very close to or in the top tiers.

First rate proposal after first rate proposal has been rejected by people with money to burn (and which they do waste prodigiously) everything to gain (especially big bucks) and very damn little to lose.

Will he persist or give up? Who knows. Not my story, not my business.

It is an absolute certainty, however, that at the very least the gulf arabs could have had a dozen high tech entrepreneurship zones for pennies, YEARS AGO, if they were only open to the idea.

The stories that he has brought back clearly demonstrate that the ruling elite of the mohammedan cultures have NO work ethic, NO risk tolerance, NO creativity and NOTHING that a modern civilized person could recognize as a positive vision for the future. Neither do they show any concern whatsoever for the future of their people.

The whole idea that Obama is promoting here is nothing but a scam and a form of jizyah.

Here is how OPIC describes itself and its mission:

OPIC was established as an agency of the U.S. government in 1971. It helps U.S. businesses invest overseas, fosters economic development in new and emerging markets, complements the private sector in managing risks associated with foreign direct investment, and supports U.S. foreign policy. Because OPIC charges market-based fees for its products, it operates on a self-sustaining basis at no net cost to taxpayers.

OPIC’s political risk insurance and financing help U.S. businesses of all sizes invest in more than 150 emerging markets and developing nations worldwide. Over the agency's 38-year history, OPIC has supported $188 billion worth of investments that have helped developing countries to generate over 830,000 host-country jobs. OPIC projects have also generated $72 billion in U.S. exports and supported more than 273,000 American jobs.

One look at their "Investor Screener" page and it is clear that this program provides assistance to American citizens and business' exclusively. Its like the SBA except the focus is on foreign markets. The Middle East is largely untapped as a market for American businesses, you can't sell Microsoft software to people who don't have or know how to use computers. Some day everyone will understand that the line between American government and business no longer exists; this includes foreign policy decisions. And the real test of American victory in foreign endeavors is whether there is a McDonald's on every block and a Chevy in every driveway of our enemies.

Totally agree about that Cairo speech, but you are wrong about his never attending church services. Ever hear of Obama's controversial pastor Jeremiah Wright? Pastor, not imam. More here if you need it.

The mohammedans have and use computers to the extent that they are ALLOWED by their outrageously wealthy and oppressive rulers and their bizarre cultural norms.

It's got nothing to do with needing money from outside.

And when offered REAL assistance toward advancement of technology use or technology business development they consistently refuse it.

Don't be deceived by comparisons to more benevolent cultures or mere cheerful imaginings.

Just look at the difference between India and Pakistan.

The only real difference is the predominance of Hinduism or mohammedanism. In all other respects it's the same people. India is a technology business leader. Pakistan is basically a non-participant.

It's like the political/economic differences between East and West Germany or North and South Korea.

All this has nothing to do with advancing American business or mohammedan engagement in the technology economy.

It's plain jizyah.

Yes, Tom D, of course I have.

But, I don't consider that "church."

I consider that "anti-church."

More technology to aid the global jihad, which means more credible threat of terrorist acts against western populations, which means more federal funding for "security" agencies to protect us against disgruntled US military veterans. Makes perfect sense.

Excellent set of observations, Joe.

From the verbage on the OPIC website, it looks like they're more interested in bringing the world unionized salad bars and bicycles than McDonalds and Chevys.

"From the verbage (sic) verbiage on the OPIC website, it looks like they're more interested in bringing the world unionized salad bars and bicycles than McDonalds and Chevys.

Obama is a traitor and should be impeached.

Two questions.

This most "left-wing" of Presidents has engineered the largest single transfer of wealth from the middle class to the least deserving segment of the rich, through the lapses in the TARP program. As a consequence of this, and other decisions, several trillion dollars will have been added to the national debt.

Yet at the same time, we continue to shell out billions and billions -- another 7.5 billion has just been awarded to Pakistan, a meretricious country that has toyed with American policymakers, even as it has been a special favorite for American largesse and solicitude, for the past half-century. And Pakistan's latest 7.5 billion comes on top of nearly 30 billion -- direct and indirect aid (much of it hidden in the Pentagon budget)supplied to Pakistan over the past nine years, since 9/11/2001.

Equally meretricious Egypt, a bottomless pit for Western aid, where the population keeps skyrocketing on the assumpation, apparently, that Western aid, Infidel aid, will always be there to pay for all those hungry mouths to feed, no matter what. And Egypt continues to receive nearly $3 billion a year, though it is unclear for what; Egypt is only by comparison with the more vicious Arab and Muslim regimes our "ally" -- in fact its people are ever more anti-American the more money we give the government, for the Mubarak Family-and-Friends Plan is kept afloat through the amounts it skims, or more than skims, from that American aid. Other Muslim countries, and the "Palestinians" who have squandered billions -- how much did Arafat, and "Mrs." Arafat, manage to take for themselves? And how are those companies that Mahmoud Abbas's children run doing with winning American contracts? And Mohammad Dahlan -- how is his bank account? And that of Saeb Erekat, and tutti quanti?

In Iraq, the Americans have spent, or committed, two trillion dollars to the messianic sentimentalism of bringing "freedom to ordinary moms and dads." A number of Iraqi government officials, some of them now living in London and Paris, have made off with billions and billions furnished without adequate representation in Washington, by American taxpayers.

Meanwhile, in the Gulf states, with tiny populations of several hundred thouaand native Arabs -- in Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait -- and even in Saudi Arabia, with fewer than 20 million Saudis, the hundreds of billions of dollars pile up, and pile up, and the Saudis alone must have, between government and "private" (i.e., the Al-Saud family and its courtiers) a trillion dollars squirreled away.

So here is what one has to ask.

We are desperate for money in this country.

The Arab Muslims are swimming in wealth --wealth that, by the way, they did nothing to deserve, and this wealth, which comes from the sale of oil and gas that was discovered, and the wells built by, and the means of transportation and distribution supplied entirely by, Westerners, while the Arabs did nothing but cash their grotesque checks, and plot ways to raise, by fiddling as much as they could (it is no longer as easy as it once was), to charge the hapless oil-consuming nations what economists call oligopolistic rents, and also spending significantly to win friends in the capitals of the West in order, among other reasons, to block any sensible energy policies, including the imposition of taxes at the wellhead on oil and gas designed to recapture some of those very oligopolistic rents.

That being the case, why in god's name is the American government giving a cent to encourage "Muslim technology"? Is this a desirable thing? Muslim states with a large educated class, like all those "engineers" who put their training to use for violent Jihad? Do we want to encourage Arabs and Muslims to become well-versed in technology? Haven't we already seen how Western technology pertaining to the dissemination of propaganda has been appropriated and exploited, by Khomeini's men (when they produced audiotapes of the Ayatollah, recorded in Neauphle-le-chateau, and then distributed all over Iran) and by Al Qaeda =with its snuff movies --Arabs and other Muslims decapitating helpless Infidels, and movies of American soldiers being blown up by IEDs -- apparently these things (see David Rohde's account of his imprisonment, published in The Times) a great hit with the Taliban? And see what the use of satellite television channels has done for Arab propaganda -- Al-Jazeera for example, exists only because of Western technology -- in spreading propaganda on behalf of Islam all over Dar al-Harb.

When American and other Western businessmen made deals wtih Soviet Russia, beginning with Lenin in the early 1920s, those who rightly opposed such deals would quote Lenin on how the "Capitalists would sell the rope" with which the Communists would, in the end, hang them.

But the Obama Administration has decided to go those greedy capitalists one better. It has decided, being as un-capitalist as it is, not to sell the rope, but rather -- to donate it to those who have made no secret of their intention to hang all of us Infidels, metaphorically speaking, by destroying everything about our societies and civilisations which constitute an obstacle to the spread, and then the dominance, of Islam. And what, in American society, constitute obstacles to the spread, and then the dominance, of Islam is just about everything -- everything, that is, but an American government that intends to give money to support the spread of technology in the Muslim world.

Madness. Slow-motion suicide.

Fine post, Hugh. Agree with much of what you said. Can't help observing that in Obama we have the Great Facilitator of Islamic designs against America. Yes, previous Presidents manifested ignorance of Islam's intentions for us all, but at least they were "only" ignorant. Here we have a Chief Executive who borders on (if indeed not crossing the border) actively complicit with Islamic designs. Obama is either a master fool or a fifth-columnist. And for purposes of American and Western security the distinction is irrelevant.

Oh yeah, thanks again to all the rubes out there who might read this post who voted for Obama. You did America, Israel and all the West great harm. You either by now know this and have repented in your soul or you are so fucking-ass ignorant that even hope has abandoned you.

"...or you are so fucking-ass ignorant" - Wellington

Yep, that's it. I simply can't get over the sheer stupidity of 21st-century Americans, esp. post-9/11. Very depressed by it.

And Yes, Hussein is "complicit with Islamic designs." That's completely obvious, and, he's a Mohammedan. Also completely obvious.

Darcy,

Verbage: verbiage/garbage :)

verbage spelling, jargon
/ver'b*j/ A deliberate misspelling and mispronunciation of verbiage that assimilates it to the word "garbage". Compare content-free. More pejorative than "verbiage".

The Saudis owe the non muslim world trillions as far as I'm concerned for spreading jihad all over the planet, with our own money, which will continue as long as we cower and sleep. I vote to take all their money and oil.

lol, I get it!

On another subject:

We invented the Internet, and now it's helping the Mohammedans, who could have never invented it, to take over the world. Talk about irony. A horrible, terrible, irony.

This is just a penny on the dollar.. While it shows where the administration's sympathies lay, this is a small piece.

Here is the big one, keep your eye on it.

Cap and Trade enforced by a communist world government created by the Copenhagen treaty the will be signed by Obama (why do you think he got the Nobel Prize-pay it forward) and ratified by members of the Senate (who won't read it). Contact your Senator now!!!

See Lord Monckton's analysis of the treaty and his address to Bethel University, wherein he lays bare the effects of this treaty to create a world government and the fraud that is "man made global warming".... er..."Climate Change".

short-end of speech.

Note: Cap and trade payments (Wealth Transfers) to the third world will amount to 2% of our GDP. These payments will accommodated by Al Gore's CO2 trading firm. (He stands to join the Super Rich with passage) These payments will end up in the back pockets of various dictators, and could be used to fund attacks upon our country. If one thinks the UN oil for food program was bad, this is a disaster.

2 small notes from Monckton's speech.
1. A recent MIT study on CO2 and warming has shown that green house gases do not really hold in radiant heat as is proposed in the now discredited studies that support the religion of global warming.
2. To achieve 1 degree F. of man made warming from CO2 would require a reduction of 1 trillion tons of CO2 emissions. Based on current emissions of CO2 from human activity, that would mean we would need to stop all CO2 emissions for the next 33 years. No gas, no oil, no cars, no planes, no farming, no hospitals, not even wood for a fire. Essentially starvation, disease, and suffering on a level unknown in human history. Otherwise to do less would achieve no results other than a new world government, transfer of wealth, economic decline.

No gas, no oil, no cars, no planes, no farming, no hospitals, not even wood for a fire. Essentially starvation, disease, and suffering on a level unknown in human history.

... a veritable commietopia. At least we'll still have leftists to eat.

Every day I despise this man more and more and anyone that voted for him (and still supports him). I wasn't buying the "he's a muslim" line until now. Whether he attends a mosque or that bs wright church makes no differnece anymore. This man needs to be impeached ASAP or the world is going to see a war like none other. There's only so long the leader of the free world can people against each before all hell breaks lose.

Somehow a lengthy comment I posted on this thread (regarding the incompleteness of the assumptions used by the Leftists in their world view - they assume everything is based on economics and ignore the indigenous cultural/religious dimensions, and so their activities are therefore extremely prone to failure) disappeared, and I don't have time to reconstitute anything except the concluding thought.

This money would be better spent supporting various non-Islamic (Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Bah'ai - anything but Muslim) relief and charity groups in their activities in Islamic countries - and providing for their protection when the inevitable assaults on them from Muslims occur. Unfortunately, present laws would probably prevent funneling taxpayer money to private religious groups in this fashion, but these groups seem to have a better understanding of conditions on the ground in these countries than does our government in many cases.

i don't want my tax dollars going to these people. aren't they the ones who exported salafist ideas to America? aren't these the ones who've built those architectural wonders called mosques on some prime real estate in America - where there was nothing like them before?

what's with State? does the president think that by giving a white elephant he'll get something in return? such a happy donor.

this is a disgrace.

to put a better construction on this; maybe some will trickle down ... perhaps some lowly inventor shall devise a way to unlock the "woman's room." [no chance]

BN, if you read my comment carefully you will note that what I said was "...supporting various non-Islamic (Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Bah'ai - anything but Muslim) relief and charity groups..." The idea is that these groups not only actually do good works and aren't out to forcibly impose themselves on anyone else, but they are probably more qualified to interact with locals than anyone in the State Department.

I think we agree, agreed?

Another pile of money thrown to the muslims. How much just this year?

Meanwhile Americans are killing themselves in despair over the economy and more and more jobs are being lost. Is it 20% yet? Almost everyone I know is under threat of job loss.

Who is going to pay this?

Meanwhile the saudis are parking their Rolls' on persian carpets.

2012 can't come soon enough for me.

Darcy, I would be keen to know which denominations you consider "real church" rather than "anti-church". Do Episcopal churches pass muster? Note that many past presidents have attended one while in the White House.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/11/obamas-attend-church-at-e_n_316677.html

BTW, I must point out you are wrong about Obama never mentioning Christ - http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0609/23510.html

Why are we giving them anything? I despise BO and his administration.
