An update on this particularly brazen attack. "Most hostages freed in army HQ raid: Pakistan military," from Agence France-Presse, October 10:
Most hostages seized by militants after a bid to storm Pakistan's army headquarters were rescued as the army launched an operation against the attackers Sunday, a military spokesman said.
"The operation has been started and most of the hostages have been freed. Details about the casualties will be given later," military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas told AFP.
Most of the kidnappers who took 15 security personnel hostage were also killed in the army raid, the spokesman said.
"Most of the terrorists have been killed, firing is still continuing inside the building," Abbas told private TV channel GEO.
Military ambulances were moving about inside the army headquarters, an AFP reporter at the scene said.
I am glad that the authorities in Pakistan seem to be taking a firmer line against the Taliban, but I do not think that it will last.
If I had a million lethal wind-up toys, would I waste a thousand of them just for fun, knowing I had tons more where that lot comes from? I might-- if I were a parentless child with no fear of irate neighbors or the police; if I couldn't trade them for a bottle of Johnny Wadi (Black Table!) whiskey and a pair of Olvin Klein jeans, (not making that up); if I were a kid who really likes blowing up stuff for the sake of the thrill of fire and noise; or, finally, if I were completely stupid. It's my guess, then, that the leader/s of the jihadis who pulled this stunt are all of the above, particularly "stupid."
That, sorry to point out, makes us somehow not so good at our jobs of defeating these people. It ain't a military fault here. It's our people who fail our nation, not to mention the Muslim captives of Islam.
If I were one of a thousand men who aren't afraid to die, I'd be pretty certain to have figured out the risk was worth something more than nothing. I wouldn't even toss away a thousand jihadis on loan for nothing. In fact, should the jihadis find themselves looking for a guy who could use them for a good purpose, let me know. I'll give them back when I'm done. I promise. Allah-yalla, sez me. And I means it.
There was no sensible point to what they did. I mean it: if the jihadis want to do some good in the world, let me know and I'll put them to work.

Well yes--and no. Pakistan is indeed cracking down somewhat--either to convince the West it is finally getting serious about those "overseas contingency operations"--or out of fear of the growing power of the Taliban, and the threat it represents to the current government--most likely the latter.
On the other hand, I very much doubt that the Taliban could have pulled off such an elaborate and deadly attack--which involved terrorists in full Pakistani military uniforms, and a knowledge of security codes--without the deep involvement of some factions of the Pakistani Army itself. Deeply troubling.
P.S. Worry01, are you Sorrow01 from IntenseDebate?
If you think Pakistan is against jihad, BIG MISTAKE! Besides, any non-mislim/'kuffar', by definition, is marked for conversion/submission/death.
Still 'glad'?
Is there any video of this? I wouldn't put it past the Pakistanis to issue fake press releases in order to (1) keep the flow of jizya coming and (2) to cover for stuff the army willingly gives to the "militants".
Events since 9/11 have proven that America's 9/11 POTUS, raised on petro-dollars, sided with terror, on 9/17:

It is that simple, really.
Same 9/11 POTUS prosecuted Border Patrol agents, granting immunity to a drug-dealer: http://www.newswithviews.com/Corsi/jerome1.htm
But, protecting the border does not have anything to do with the 'war-on-terror', does it?
Finally, thin-skinned, party-blinded Americans, sorry for the BDS........
