Mindanao Jihad Update. Under Sharia law, non-Muslims may not propagate their religions. Since the imposition of Islamic law is the aim of these jihadists, and of all jihadists, this elderly priest became a target for abduction. "Irish priest seized in Mindanao," from BBC News, October 11:
An Irish priest has been seized by gunmen in the troubled southern Philippines, local police say.
They say six attackers, said to be Islamic militants, took Father Michael Sinnott, 78, at gunpoint in Pagadian City, on Mindanao island.
They then fled with the priest in a minivan before boarding a boat.
No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. The Philippine army has been fighting the Abu Sayyaf Islamic militant group in the region.
Father Michael, a priest from the Missionaries of St Columban, was seized by the gunmen at his city residence on Sunday, police say.
The getaway van was later found abandoned and torched in a coastal area.
"We've alerted all our units as well as the military to be on the lookout and intercept the gunmen," Angelo Sunglao, police chief in western Mindanao region, told reporters.
"We can't speculate yet on who is behind the kidnapping, but the Abu Sayyaf is known to be operating near the area," he added.
Abu Sayyaf is one of the smallest but deadliest militant groups in the largely Roman Catholic Philippines.
Established in the early 1990s, it has kidnapped dozens of foreign aid workers, missionaries and tourists in the south...
From the article: "An Irish priest has been seized by gunmen in the troubled southern Philippines, local police say."
'Troubled', sez the BBC.
Not 'troubled'. 'Jihad-wracked'.
That first paragraph would be a whole lot more interesting and truthful if it read, 'An Irish Catholic missionary priest has been seized by Muslim sharia-pushing gangsters in the jihad-wracked majority-Muslim southern Philippines, local non-Muslim police say".
Abu Sayyaf has strong links to Al-Qaeda, they'got a large terror network in the Southern Philippines. In Salman Rushdie's book "Shalimar the Clown" a Filipino terrrorist invites Shalimar who's become a terrorist himself because he feels offended by his wife who had forsaken him, saying "Come here to our country, there're lots of Christians whom you can kill." Mindanao is terrorists' paradise.
Yes,that's about right.6 armed moslems against a 78 year old pacifistic Priest. Warriors for allah- my Ar*e!
DDA, I'm surprised they haven't started using "restive" as a description for the area. I guess that's already been taken by Southern Thailand.
And Western govts. are still allowing mass Muslim immigration?
In this day and age remaining a history ignoramus about the rise and goals of this mental AIDS is becoming more dangerous every day. Never fear, you can now catch up quick free and accurate with the Historyscoper at http://go.to/islamhistory
RESTIVE: DICTIONARY DEFINITION
"Nervous, unquiet, restless, uneasy."
I'm nervous and restless this afternoon, I think I'll behead a school girl and kidnap a 78 year old priest.
A 78-year-old Irish priest.
From 'the Missionaries of St Columban'. For whom, see this:
http://www.columban.org/
I wonder what Fr Michael's patron, the original St Columban (who lived and died *before* Mohammedanism had even been cooked up to burden the world) would have said of those jihadist thugs. St Columban seems not to have been fazed by anyone or anything (except perhaps the surpassing delectableness of Irish colleens; but not being a Muslim, he did not blame the girls for their tempting beauty, but rather blamed *himself*, and so chose to simply remove *himself* from what he saw as the scene of temptation).

Let's hope that the memory of the indomitable and indefatigible St Columban - who is said to have commanded bears, escaped wolves, and tamed the wild beasts in the deep forests of Dark Age Europe - will sustain and inspire Fr Michael Sinnott, in the clutches of jihadis in the jungles of the Philippines.
I bet he could take them.
I'll take that bet and gladly pay when whips their ass.
Nope, GMcCal--Mindanao is "restive", too.
"Malaysia has played a key role in brokering Manila-MILF talks and led a multi-national peace monitoring team in the restive Mindanao to oversee the cease-fire."

I agree with Dumbledore's Army--"Jihad-wracked" is much more descriptive.
And here are the targets of the brave warriors of Abu Sayyaf: aid workers, missionaries and tourists. These thugs have nothing but my contempt.

AN OCTOGENARIAN Irish priest was kidnapped by a gang of armed men in the restive southern Philippines yesterday.

Dear Friends
Please pray and use all contacts to spread the news and we demand that no violence are used by the authorities but peaceful negotiation be conduced for his release. We are with you Father Michael in Sprit and prayer.

I join my prayers with yours.
I am curious to read, however, that you are actually making a 'demand' of the authorities as to how to retrieve
Fr Michael. How long do you want to peacefully negotiate for I wonder?
Maybe you should do the negotiations all by yourselves and only ask the government to get involved on their [government's] own terms when you tire of your own approach.
Also I wonder if that is Fr Michael's 'demand'. How can you presume to speak for him? Has Fr Michael left instructions to say that only a 'no violence' approach to negotiations be used to secure his release in the event of his kidnapping? If so, the world should know about it.
And what if he is being tortured? Would you still 'demand' a 'no violence' approach and [only] talking? Would he?
Yours sincerely
Kinana Nadir

Dear Friends
Just two updates on this abduction:
It has been confirmed that Father Michael Sinnott was kidnapped by members of the MILF. A few lines from the linked story:
http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/nation/view/20091016-230327/Kidnappers-call-superiors-of-Irish-priest
‘Maj. Gen. Ben Dolorfino, the chief of the Western Mindanao Command, said, ‘The only thing I can [say] now is that two of them are MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) rebels based in Lanao del Sur.”’
‘Dolorfino said the military was able to validate the call through “inside sources” in the MILF’s 4th Infantry Brigade.
‘The brigade is led by Commander Jamat Latip to whom, both Dolorfino and Chief Supt. Angelo Sunglao claimed on Wednesday, Sinnott was turned over by his kidnappers.’
However Commander Jamat Latip denies involvement with the kidnapping
The other update is from
http://www.preda.org/archives/2009/r09101402.html
From Father Shay Cullen who writes of Fr Michael Sinnott’s commitment to all the people the Philippines, but especially the poor and the children.
Fr Shay: ‘We appeal that his captors will respect his life's dedication and commitment to the dignity and rights of the Muslim and Christian people alike. I appeal to the authorities to do nothing violent if he is located with his captors but to negotiate a peaceful release and return.’
My questions to Fr Shay and Preda about the ‘demand’ for a ‘no violence’ relationship with these abductors remain unanswered. And my prayers for Fr Michael continue.
