Finding courage
Obama just had the U.S. at the UN consponsor with Egypt a resolution against inciting religious hatred. But apparently his Secretary of State is not on board, or not completely on board. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton voiced strong opposition Monday to proposed U.N. resolutions on "defamation of religions," saying that such policies would restrict free speech.In opening remarks for the release of the State Department's Annual Report on International Religious Freedom, Clinton said that while some claim so-called defamation of religions policies would help protect freedom of religion, she "strongly disagree[s]."
"The United States will always seek to counter negative stereotypes of individuals based on their religion and will stand against discrimination and persecution," Clinton stated. "But an individual's ability to practice his or her religion has no bearing on others' freedom of speech."
The protection of speech about religion and religious discourse is important in a world with many different faith beliefs, asserted the high-ranking U.S. diplomat.
Earlier this year, the U.N. Human Rights Council adopted an anti-defamation draft resolution that human rights groups warn would protect a religion rather than adherents of religions.
Leonard A. Leo, chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, last week testified to Members of Congress that the only religion and religious adherents that are specifically mentioned in the "defamation" resolutions - this year's and past years - are Islam and Muslims.
"Aside from Islam, the resolutions do not specify which religions are deserving of protection, or explain how or by whom this would be determined," Leo stated....
And "defamation of Islam," as we have seen so many times at Jihad Watch, means efforts to resist the jihad and Islamic supremacism -- as far as all too many Muslims are concerned.
Where was the Secretary of State while the resolution was being jointly sponsored? Did she express her opposition then or was she AWOL when it mattered?
Better late then never?
Though I am not a Hillary fan but if she sticks to her guns on this then it is highly appreciated.

Something smells fishy here. As Cornelius pointed out, where was she when the resolution was passed? I imagine that the Big-O will call her in for a discussion and Robert Gibbs will soon issue a correction to the effect that the comments reported here were misinterpreted, and that Clinton will soon follow suit.
It's too late for those in the present Administration, or out of it, who want to push this disgusting resolution. She's spoken, publicly. They've lost. Daria Mogahed and Company will keep on burrowing, as well Muslims who managed to land on Washington staffs as "native informants" as to what Muslims in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, as well as here in the United States, think, and how Muslims will react, and what should be done to win their hearts and minds, but eventually enough people are going to realize that Islam is, at it always has been, at war with Infidels, and we are Infidels, and have no business trying, and no hope of succeeding, in winning Muslim hearts and minds but must create a world where Islam is no longer as potent and as threatening and as potentially able to threaten us, the world's Infidels, as it is now.
Osama bin Laden, and others who employ terrorism as their chosen weapon of Jihad, acted too quickly, peaked too soon. And as a consequence, Infidels peeked into the Qur'an, Hadith, Sira, and more are doing so every day. And well-informed people, all over the Western world, unchained from mental cliches (fear of the wrongly-used word "racism"; enslavement to a muddy concept called "divesity"; embarrassment over being part of the advanced West, an inheritor of a civilisational legacy that is too obviously more advanced, and so the very idea of an "advanced" society must be self-denyingly denied), are a nightmare for Muslims.

Ms Clinton: a word in your ear. It's time for a pleasant, intimate dinner with some very intelligent and brave ladies who can tell you all the things you need to know about Islam, and then some; things that no practising Muslim is ever going to tell you, and that most of the people in your boss's circle are not going to tell you, either.
Sit down to dinner with Mesdames Wafa Sultan, Nonie Darwish, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Phyllis Chesler (ask her about her experiences in Afghanistan), Taslima Nasreen and Rosemary Sookhdeo (wife of Canon Dr Patrick Sookhdeo, he who apostasised from Islam and is now a Church of England priest writing very sober books of solemn warning about Islam and its ambitions...see, for example, 'Global Jihad', and 'Faith, Power and Territory', or 'Islam in Britain'; just those three would tell you more, much more, than you'll ever learn from Ms Dalia Mogahed/ Mujahid).
It will be a very enjoyable dinner. These women are formidably intelligent, very very brave, and have had Adventures. You will learn a great deal.
And you should understand that everything they say in their books - for they do not hesitate to rationally criticise Islam, whenever and wherever they believe such critique is amply justified by the facts on the ground - would be proscribed by that stupid Resolution which your President has so foolishly co-sponsored with Islamic Egypt.
Indeed, to see how bad things *already* are, for freedom of speech, ask Mrs Sookhdeo what happened when she was trying to submit to her academic institution, Westminster College in Oxford the results of extensive research she had done for her Masters degree on 'contextual change and Muslim women in Malaysia and Britain'.
Here is her account of the University of Oxford's active suppression of freedom of speech and concomitant denial of academic freedom in connection with study and critique of Islam; as given in the Epilogue to Mrs Sookhdeo's book, 'Secrets Behind the Burqa':
"When I submitted the completed dissertation to the college in 1998, there was no indication of what lay ahead. I received a phone call from the college saying that they didn't believe that I had written the dissertation myself *and that they wanted me to change my position on Islam* {my emphasis - dda}.
"To me it seemed unbelievable that they should think that someone else had written it, and that I should be asked to change my position on Islam when our universities prided themselves on neutrality of research.
"There was much correspondence between myself and the college, but to no avail. Finally I wrote to the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and complained. They convened a court where I had to state my case. I had to take witnesses from our staff, as I discovered that they [the University] believed it [the dissertation] was written by the research department of our work - The Institute for the Study of Islam and Christianity. Then I had to argue for the neutrality of research.
"When the judgement came they upheld my integrity in every way, *but still stated I had to change my position on Islam* {my emphasis - dda}.
"After a visit to the college they wrote to me saying that whereas everyone would be expected to pass on a rewrite *they could not guarantee that they would ever pass me* {my emphasis - dda}. I took the dissertation and walked away. They awarded me a postgraduate Diploma in Theology...
"I am not the only person who has been asked to change their position on Islam with regard to a dissertation in our [i.e. our British] universities.
"I have known others who have faced the same fate with regard to doctoral and masters dissertations, and we will not be the last. In our universities it is now very difficult to be able to analyse and critique Islam. The day of free speech and neutrality of research is closing."
AND REMEMBER: THIS WAS IN 1998, three years PRIOR to September 11 2001. And yet a university college, back then, already dared to tell an academic researcher - Mrs Sookhdeo - what she could and could not say about Islam; and that if she did not do as she was told, she would not be passed.
Is this what we want happening, always and everywhere, all over the western world? That unless a person only has pleasing and flattering things to say about Islam, or about Muslims, that person must be silenced, and even...punished?
Make no mistake - this resolution about 'defamation of religions', which has primarily been pushed by the Muslim bloc at the UN, aims at just such a result. It intends that what happened to Mrs Sookhdeo at the Islam-intimidated University of Oxford, should happen to all persons who try to speak even one critical word about Islamic teachings or Islamic practice.
...or maybe she senses that Obama fever is staring to subside and is positioning herself for the future. What she really needs to to do is to issue a "clarification" that, yes, what she said is exactly what she meant. And if she receives any flak from anyone within the administration on account of it she should publicly and loudly resign, clearly stating her reasons for doing so.

I congratulate Hilary Clinton for exercising her free speech rights and especially for going against the prevailing dogma of the Obama administration.
I suggest that JihadWatchers also exercise their free speech rights and write a nice letter to Mrs Clinton showing her just how much you agree with her. She needs your active support in these very difficult times just as much as any other champion of American culture.
And make sure you tell her that if you had to make a choice between her or Obama for president, your vote would be for her. I am sure that all concerned Americans would feel the same.
It's time for all of us to help one another in this struggle against the suppression of individual rights.
Could just be good cop (here HRC) and bad cop (here BO) scenario. All this could have been arranged in advance with Obama telling select Middle Eastern Muslims that for domestic political consumption someone in his Adminstration would have to speak against the joint American-Egytpian resolution, but not to worry because the resolution is a reality and things will quiet down (or so it is hoped) over time------blah, blah, blah. Not saying this is written in stone only that it's a plausible explanation. After all, it would be a mistake to think that either of the Clintons have any kind of deep moral sense about what is right and wrong.
Kudos to Mrs. Clinton! I never thought I'd live to see the day when I can actually applaud her.
However, if she succeeds in grabbing the presidential candidacy from BHO in 2012, the Republicans or Libertarians will have to run a thieving pedophile (someone like Muhammad?) if she expects my vote.

I think that Hillary is marginalized by BO so it is is very possible she didn't know.
Good for Hillary, if she really meant it. I don't trust anyone in the current administration to do what is best for America. This is proving to be the most insidious, dishonest,secretive,and deceitful gang of traitors ever to reign in Washington. I often remind myself that the Republicans had six years of total power and blew it all to hell and that no previous Democratic adminstration has succeeded in totally destroying America, but I can't think of one that took off running with that sole objective---until now.
Hillary works for Obama and her job is to convey and implement his policies. She isn't a free agent so I think her remarks could be considered a betrayal of the Marxist- in-chief. I don't believe she would jeopardize her job to defend the Constitution and the rights of the American people, so I don't get it.

Our politicians must learn that Islam, like the mirror, has two faces.
The socio-political side has to go before we can call it a religion. So far it does not qualify as a "true religion of the world".
