Of course, no Islamic jihadist would say that working toward the implementation of Sharia was "harming" countries of the world. As far as they're concerned, imposing a law that strips way freedom of speech and freedom of conscience, and equality of rights of women with men, is helping countries, not harming them.

KABUL (Reuters) - The Afghan Taliban pose no threat to the West but will continue their fight against occupying foreign forces, they said on Wednesday, the eighth anniversary of the U.S.-led invasion that removed them from power.
U.S.-led forces with the help of Afghan groups overthrew the Taliban government during a five week battle which started on October 7, 2001, after the militants refused to hand over al Qaeda leaders wanted by Washington for the September 11 attacks on America.
"We had and have no plan of harming countries of the world, including those in Europe ... our goal is the independence of the country and the building of an Islamic state," the Taliban said in a statement on the group's website www.shahamat.org.
"Still, if you (NATO and U.S. troops) want to colonize the country of proud and pious Afghans under the baseless pretext of a war on terror, then you should know that our patience will only increase and that we are ready for a long war."...
Ooh, they're beginning to feel the pressure. Press them harder, all the way to the end. No Taliban. Maybe they got wind of our new strategy, and they're worried?

Well, did they not aid and abet al-Qaida in the past and now? When al-Qaida's deeds were exposed, did the Taliban expel them from Afghanistan? Also, what of all those Afghani and Pakistani jihadists that you export to Europe and the United States? The ones we later find had trained in your terrorist camps? Someone needs to come up with more believable dawah. It might help if you stopped doing opium before releasing silly press releases.

If the taliban is no longer against the USA then when are they going to turn in the "sheik" bin laden?
As the legendary Indiana Jones would probably say if they let him, "I'm getting a little too old for this type of sh.t." Western society sometimes appears hell-bent on its own destruction. The degree of self hatred and loathing among our so-called intellectuals and elites means that virtually by definition, the Taliban statement will be accepted at face value.
I wasn't alive at the time but I certainly read enough to know that Adolf Hitler lied when he said that after Czechoslovakia he had no further territorial demands. During the years of the Cold War, for intelligence officers, it was accepted that communism was a militant expansionist doctrine. The great Oxford dons who fell under the sway of communism and KGB officers believed Stalin, when he wanted socialism in one country. And for all that, they ignored the expansion of the noxious doctrine around the world on just about every continent. And it's amazing just how many of them there were including two of the most respected AJP Taylor and Christopher Hill.
For the Taliban to make such a comment reflects that the battlefield losses must be mounting and they are hoping that the gullible will take their words and either withdraw from Afghanistan and cut back a bit to Pakistan. Osama bin Laden regarded Afghanistan under the Taliban as the basis for a caliphate. If you follow the logic of Islamic doctrine then that means creation of a base to spread the doctrine around the world by all means including deception and terrorism. The willful ignorance of left-wing academics in accepting that we are facing a clash of civilizations would be risible, if it were not so important.
For clear thinking, I believe that the work of Walid Phares hard to beat and I mean no disrespect to Mr. Robert Spencer; Mark Steyn, Melanie Phillips and a whole host of others who are trying to alert the world to the problem. The one advantage of reading Phares is his mastery of the Koran which is little more than a war manual for fundamentalist Islamics. Hitler told us what he had in mind; the Communists told us what they had in mind and we believed them not and paid with blood and sacrifice. We are now paying in the same currency for muddleheaded politicians and do-gooders failing to understand that we really do face a clash of civilizations.
Mr Phares has claimed that he talked about a clash of civilizations before Samuel Huntington. That may well be because I have written of many things before they became popular with mainstream academics, but modesty forbids me to blow my own trumpet. We are in a fight to the death. The Phares interview with the Polish magazine Nowe Panstwo - Our Times is entitled "Jihad like Yoga" and can be picked up through many websites. I commend it to your readership. The major problem as usual, is that those who should read about these matters simply don't and I am glad I'm not young anymore. This is an important struggle which goes to the very heart of our belief system and values: we ignore it at our peril.
