Only one man knew all the details of a deadly explosives plot designed to cripple the economy and unleash mass carnage, terror and destruction in downtown Toronto.Not this time.That was Zakaria Amara.
On Thursday, the 24-year-old Mississauga man, regarded as one of the linchpins of the so-called Toronto 18, pleaded guilty in a Brampton court.
It was Amara who built the remote-controlled detonators by hand and made numerous treks to a local library to research ways to procure ammonium nitrate.
And he mustered $4,000 in cash to pay for three tonnes of the fertilizer, earmarked for truck bombs.
Members of the Toronto 18 planned to use three U-Haul vans filled with fertilizer bombs. One parked outside the Toronto Stock Exchange would carry at least two tonnes, enough to bring down the building and three surrounding blocks. Another truck would be parked near the Front St. offices of Canada's spy agency. Glass would shatter into the streets, cars would flip and roads would be torn apart.
And the third bomb would go off at a military base somewhere along Highway 401, between Toronto and Ottawa. To maximize the destruction, Amara wanted to place metal chips inside the bombs.
Amara bragged that just one of the three bombs would be comparable with the 2003 bombing in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which killed 35 people and wounded more than 200.
And he was emphatic that the attack, which his right-hand man dubbed the Battle of Toronto, would be bigger than the London subway bombing of 2005, which killed 56 people and injured 700.
If they got their act together, maybe they could launch their attack on Sept. 11, 2006.
"It's gonna start kicking ass," Amara told his second in command, three weeks before his June 2006 arrest during a massive police sweep that netted 14 men and four youths. "It's gonna be kicking ass like never before."...
In December 2005, Amara helped organize a jihadi training camp in Washago, Ont., which was attended by police agent Mubin Shaikh.Potential recruits, from Scarborough and Mississauga, played paintball games, ran obstacle courses and underwent firearms training.
Amara videotaped a co-accused delivering a speech urging attendees to wage war on the West....
After his arrest, police searched Amara's home and car. Among other things, they found jihadi documents, satellite photographs of the Parliament buildings and maps of roads around Parliament Hill, and a video of roadside bombings and the execution of western soldiers.They also found a memory stick with a message by Amara for his co-accused.
"It seems like everything is going to happen near the end of September," Amara says in the message, which was played in court. "I don't think I have anything else to say except `God willing.'"...

This is the mentality of the idiots who were going to bring down the Toronto Stock Exchange. It is, essentially, the mentality that brought down the World Trade Center and severely damaged the Pentagon, that blew up train stations in London and Madrid, and blew up luxury hotels in Indonesia and shot up the train station and grand hotels in Mumbai.

I’d been working just down Hwy 400 from where this was going on. Given the topography, there’s no way neighbours would have been concerned except for the fact that the property they were using didn’t fit the annual agricultural trend. And the folk who bought the goods weren’t farmers or neighbourly in any way…but by then it was to late as the RCMP already had the goods on ‘em. But what if they hadn’t?
Even in the most civil of societies, as ours is in Canada, we are tainted by the relativistic approach to the differences in culture, and I don’t believe the TO 18 neighbours in Simcoe County would’ve been aware enough to bring their activities to the attention of the authorities. And given the seriousness of the situation, and the on going war by islam in our Dar al-Harb, the lessons learned from this event will not stay, and the need for vigilance of the every day Joe Canuck will once again wane, leaving the task squarely on the shoulders of the RCMP, or whatever hapless law enforcement dick who might stumble upon the next act of terror through the kindness of our local friends to civilization may deem important.
Had this gone unnoticed, would Canada be so (wish-washy) adamant in the reduction of (NATO) troops committed to Afghanistan? I don’t think so. The US and the UK each had their islamic nightmares. And Spain, well just how did that spineless nation respond to their centuries old match with islam? (glass bottom boats and all) And every nation is still thinking about the big “pull-out.” But Canada, not having been directly hit by the true nature (see when islam blows shit up and kills people for no reason other than you are an infidel in your country) that should befall Dar al-Harb, still clings to the post Lester Pearson creationist belief of a “United Nations.” Truth is, the old League had more clout, for the participants were more likely to be “in league.” Now-a-days, the UN has allowed an Islamic League to circumvent any “Unification” of Nations to occur due to the intolerance which demand Sharia upon the entire planet.
WE in Canada STILL don’t know how lucky, or how close, we were to avoiding a terrorist attack on our soil. The RCMP are not all knowing, all seeing supercops in an Orwellian dystopia with big brother cameras and neighbours spying on their like for the sake of state. Their intelligence came by a chance born of every democracy’s need for stability and security – someone saw something fishy and decided to do something about it; which is the reverse of what cultures under islam will do, unless for personal gain, but never for the ideological gain that promotes the culture where infidels, or Kufars, prosper. As so often reported in Afghanistan, the locals will still question why they should report the Taliban doing evil shite, or changing centuries ingrained ways of corruption and subjugation of sexes and other beliefs because they refuse to take command of their own destiny and let it rest upon inshalla – Allah’s will, a misbegotten will that perpetuates the ever presence of a dark spiral into medieval sustenance through their own making.
If fear is the message of your religion, so will be the results of the people who follow it. Where exploitation is the rule of religious law, so will those who are exploited point out that rule. But where pointing out exploitation is against the law by those who are exploited, so will the message of the religion prevail…so is the message of Moe, in my Country, and in every other one who considers islam a religion.
I hope in all that is Holy that no terrorist attack by islam is ever successful on Canadian soil. And all the idiots who think that they can help create and expand Dar al-Islam outside of the existing boarders by pulling off such stunts in my country should remember that it took a Canadian with an idea to create the UN. It can easily take a Canadian to put forth the idea that this (the U) was a mistake all along…and let the chips fall where they may, ‘cause no one is infallible, and everyone makes mistakes, and everyone is human; just not apparently the prophet and all those who follow his need to achieve salvation through subjugated destruction of civilizations because of the ideological over compensating necessity motivated by a “small” or “short” or “simple” belief system with no room for more complex ideas or realities. The Toronto 18, hidden in a cloud of everyday media stories, they are but another weird phenomena, which makes no sense in our harmonized multicultural society. And without their crime actually having happened, Canadians continue on to view this as just more misdirected souls caught up in some “bad influences,” for which our justice system will deal with. But what if they’d succeeded? It is always the dark reflections that the media shies from, and a hypothesis none of us really want to contemplate – except for the likes of Zakaria Amara.
And anyone who makes excused for Amara or praises him is just as Evil as his intentions, and should be subject to whatever scrutiny our democratic law proscribes, which is far more justice than would be provided in Dar al-Islam.

When I lived in Ontario, I worked at the corner of King and Bay streets, the absolute heart of Canada's financial district, and just a block up from the Toronto Stock Exchange. The idea of some moronic islamic jihadists taking out a three block area is horrifying. The loss of life would have been catastrophic. This is the busiest part of the city, with glittering high rise office towers crowded together, as well as a multitude of shops and condos. On Front Street, the CN Tower and the teeming hub for commuter and other trains, Union Station, would also have been affected.
Thank goodness for the RCMP.

Another suspect, Saad Gaya, 21-year-old McMaster University science student, pleaded guilty Monday to participating in a terrorist group – the so-called Toronto 18 – that intended to cause an explosion likely to cause serious property damage, bodily harm or death. (Sept.29, 2009)
This is interesting in light of the fact that McMaster's legal team denied their students were involved during Paul Williams' deposition in Toronto last Friday. McMaster called the allegations "slanderous".
There were four Mcmaster students involved in the Toronto 18 plot.
So much for Canadian justice.
