Army tried to correct Fort Hood jihadist's misunderstanding of Islam

After all, everyone knows that Islam is a Religion of Peace™. They just figured he hadn't gotten the memo. The only problem is -- no one wants to talk about it, but there is abundant support for his views within Islamic theology. "Army sought ways to channel Hasan's absorption with Islam: Walter Reed psychiatrists ordered him to attend university lectures on religion," by Ann Scott Tyson and Dana Priest for the Washington Post, November 12 (thanks to Christopher):

Army psychiatrists at Walter Reed Army Medical Center who supervised Maj. Nidal M. Hasan's work as a psychiatric fellow tried to turn his growing preoccupation with religion and war into something productive by ordering him to attend a university lecture series on Islam, the Middle East and terrorism, according to a Walter Reed staff member familiar with Hasan's medical training.

The psychiatric staff at Walter Reed did not discuss kicking him out of the service, according to the staff member. In fact, Hasan was initially considered a good medical school candidate because he had spent time as an enlisted soldier and had cared for his siblings after his parents died, both attributes that supervisors believed indicated he had a healthy work ethic.

An Army official also said that Hasan, who is believed to have killed 13 people last week at Fort Hood, Tex., did not formally seek to leave the military as a conscientious objector or for any other reason. It is unclear whether Hasan, whose aunt has said he sought to leave the military, made informal efforts to leave through contacts with his immediate superiors, and if so how his chain of command at lower levels might have responded to such efforts....

The idea that Hasan attend the lectures, which he did late last year or early this year, came up during discussions among the psychiatric staffs of the hospital and the Army's medical university about what was perceived as Hasan's lack of productivity and his constant interest in Muslims whose religious beliefs conflicted with their military duties.

"You're at an institution of higher learning. He seems to want to do work in an area no one knows anything about," the staff member, who also requested anonymity because he had not been authorized to speak publicly, said of the order. "You don't want to close him down just because it's different."

During those discussions, psychiatrists commented in passing about whether Hasan could be delusional or hurt fellow soldiers, but did not think he was dangerous and never took steps to have him evaluated either for mental fitness or as a security threat. On the contrary, his demeanor was regarded as gentle and polite, and he often responded to inquiries about his well-being by saying, "I'm doing well, thank God."

"He had his struggles, and he embraced his religion with such intensity that one wondered whether he" could have suffered from a form of "delusion," the staffer said. He cited as an example -- without speaking of Hasan in particular -- the belief that the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are against Muslims rather than against al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan and Saddam Hussein's government and then insurgents in Iraq.

Hasan came to the attention of two joint terrorism task forces in December 2008, as he corresponded by e-mail with Anwar al-Aulaqi, a U.S. citizen and Islamic spiritual leader residing in Yemen who has exhorted followers to pursue violent jihad, or holy war. A Defense Department analyst on one of the task forces concluded that the chatter was innocent and in keeping with Hasan's research interests, two government officials said this week....

There was nothing to "correct". Now only if there was a class called "You're right, but don't kill us please."

Maybe that would've worked...

If this case is handled appropriately, if it becomes, with all of its details exposed, all of the dismal assumptions and fearfulness exposed, all of the ignorant assertions by those who, after the murders themselves, and without any greater knowledge of Islam than they possessed a week ago, or a month, or ten years, if all of this becomes part of the record, is the subject of articles and books, then the Case of Nidal Malik Hasan could be one great Teaching Moment for the United States, and for the Western world, and for all of the world's viewing-Islam-through-a-glass-darkly Infidels.

God knows they need it.

"...the Case of Nidal Malik Hasan could be one great Teaching Moment for the United States, and for the Western world..."

Agreed and hopefully so.

Just a memo to the Army for the forseeable future... Muslims surely aren't going to take the word of the filthy kuffar, trying to tell them what Islam is.

"He had his struggles, and he embraced his religion with such intensity that one wondered whether he" could have suffered from a form of "delusion," the staffer said.

This statement is making dangerous assumptions. The assumption is that intense religious conviction is harmless at worse and for the good of man at best. We now know that the more devout a Muslim is to Islam he will be a terrorist. That is the fact not a delusion!

This physiologist also shows his bias in his 'struggles' statement. He does not realize that Hasan's struggles were his dedication to Islam contradicting his sworn oath as an Army officer in the US. Not some misplaced theory of how he had issues with his father/mother/fellow officers or some such rot.

" Muslims surely aren't going to take the word of the filthy kuffar, trying to tell them what Islam is."

This is what i dont understand, who these people are that are running interference for islam. And why? They are lieing about islam. WTF!?! Why?

Why not let the muslems explain islam, They are doing it every day, in word and action.

Why do we need the liberal media to explain what "muslems are called to kill all infidels, where ever they find them," means.

It's suicidal, and the muslem world knows it.

There are traitors inside our borders, (besides the muslems) that are seting us up for a major fall. What is there weapon of choice? Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk, Talk.

Stop listening, Start doing.

Civil unrest is comeing...

Quoting: "During those discussions, psychiatrists commented in passing about whether Hasan could be delusional..."

Nonsense.

l believe that worse will come if OBama Hussien Barrack and his gang of thug have their way, freedom of speech coming from talk radio and internet will curtailed, because We The People know and understand islam and some more than others know the creeping dangers of sharia law coming into our country. Because we can find the truth they the facists of the Obama gang will try to silence us, ie hate speech. The US like Pres.Reagan insisted the US will be mankind's last hope for freedom.

"Army psychiatrists ... tried to turn his growing preoccupation with religion and war into something productive by ordering him to attend a university lecture series on Islam, the Middle East and terrorism..." -- from the story.

LOL. Isn't this sort of like sending a Hell's Angels biker to bike safety school? So, what does this tell us? Merely that the "Army psychiatrists" are as completely clueless about Islam and its history and motives as the MSM who are commenting on this story. And, what, specifically, was the "university lecture series on Islam," what was the prescribed curriculum, and who was the lecturer presenting the material? Wanna bet the lecturer wasn't vetted by the RoP police first? What's his name? Given that any university course these days on any aspect of Islam would focus on the peaceful Meccan verses and skip over the abrogation part, you know, the good stuff, it's likely that Hasan simply laughed at them. He went instead to a real Muslim in Yemen where he knew he could partake of the real Islam, not the pablum they serve in a U.S. university. We'll see just how steadfast and true to his faith he is during the trial, or whether he will let his defense lawyers deny him his right to proclaim his faith to the world.

“If this case is handled appropriately … then the Case of Nidal Malik Hasan could be one great Teaching Moment for the United States, and for the Western world…” – Hugh

I believe we are seeing this. For the very first time, some in the Media are stating openly, some more clearly and forcefully than others, that ISLAM is the problem. Also, Political Correctness is being named and blamed for the massacre at Ft. Hood. This is very good news!

In a recent discussion with a pair of Sikhs that I chanced to meet, I made the point that not all Muslims are terrorists, but if they “get religion” (Islam) it will lead them to murder. Maj. Hasan is a PERFECT illustration of this. The Major begins to be troubled by his conflicting allegiance to both Allah and the Infidel Army he serves. He seeks answers from Islam and his Imam. This leads to more frequent visits to the Mosque, deeper study of Islam, adoption of Islamic dress, all of which all results in MORE mental anguish – because true allegiance to Islam AND an Infidel Army cannot coexist. Ultimately his religion triumphs and the Major is led to murder the Infidel - as commanded by the Qur’an.

If you look closely, you can almost see Hasan's ransformation in the pictures shown in the news. Note the first picture of Hasan as a new Army Lieutenant (look for the silver bar on his shoulder, also more hair on his head). This picture seems to depict a young man who is proud of his recent achievement; he seems to wear a genuine smile. Compare this picture with that of Hasan just before he murdered his comrades – the smile is faint and wooden, the eyes are expressionless and reptilian. The over all look is smug and repulsive.

So yes, Major Hasan proves a most excellent example of Islam. An example that we should make utmost use of in our crusade to educate our fellow Kuffar.

Yes, Davegreybeard, I think you may be right. Hesitations are, indeed, starting to appear in the LMSM PC MC narrative. The panic is almost palpable as they find their ground progressively shrinking with each new revelation about Hasan.

Walter Reed psychiatrists ordered him to attend university lectures on religion,"

...a university lecture series on Islam, the Middle East and terrorism, according to a Walter Reed staff member

They must have graduated from the same psychiatry school as Hasan...
This is like sending an alcoholic to a class on how to make wine and bathtub gin...

by ordering him to attend a university lecture series on Islam, the Middle East and terrorism

Interesting....they didn't order him to attend a mosque.

Hi Dave.

Sorry I haven't been in touch.

How is the leafletting going these days? Getting many people willing to take a flyer and read?

Hi Dumbles!

I HAVE been passing out the leaflets and, as it so happens, most recently to the two fellows (Sikhs) mentioned above.

I had seen these guys (father and son it turned out) walking in my neighborhood wearing turbans. So I asked them the other day, if they were Muslims. I was pleasantly surprised (and a little relieved) to find that they were Sikhs. When I mentioned that I had been studying Islam for the past four years they were quite surprised and puzzled. I replied “I like to keep my friends close and my enemies closer”.

What followed was a wide-ranging conversation about Sikhism, Islam, and the long history of Muslim persecution of Sikhs. Arvander (the father) said he knew little about Islam, as he believed religion should be a private matter and that if everyone concentrated on their own religion and did not try and convert others, the world would live in harmony.

Arvaner’s son Harjot (?) who was about to go to medical school, was more curious. I told him that all Muslims are not terrorists but that if they chose to really “get into” their religion, that it would lead them to murder Infidels, just as it did with Major Hasan. I told him that the best place to start in understanding Islam was the life history of Muhammad. This, while keeping firmly in mind, that to Muslims, Muhammad is uswa hasana “The Model of Conduct” and al insan al kamil “The Perfect Man”. I explained a bit about the Hadith and the “Sirat Rasul Allah” and that the leaflet on Muhammad’s life was taken only from those Islamic sources.

Before that, I passed them out to a young man who works were I have recently started teaching, part time. He seemed to “get it” fairly quickly.

So yes, I have been doing what I can with my leaflets, one Infidel at a time.

Have you had occasion to pass any out? By the way, you promised me a critique on these, did you not?

Dave - abject apologies for not getting back to you.

You will hear from me personally within the week, I promise.

Here are just a couple of things that Mission Islam says about psychiatry:

"God says about Qur'an IT (Qur'an) IS A GUIDE AND A HEALING TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE (S.41: v. 44). God says in Qur'an about psychological and social diseases and cures in several surahs. In our opinion, Islamic principles which are based on Qur'an and Hadith are the best form of prevention and treatment for psychological and social disturbances."

"Muslim psychiatrists and psychotherapists must have familiarity with Islamic religion and culture and must incorporate Islamic values, ethics and code of behavior in techniques of psychotherapy."

Not only is it a good question as to whether a devout Muslim can be a good soldier in an infidel army, but also - can a devout Muslim be a good and effective psychiatrist?

""He had his struggles, and he embraced his religion with such intensity that one wondered whether he" could have suffered from a form of "delusion,""

This is an interesting statement.

Unless "religion" or any faith is now a symptom of "delusion" defined by the DSM-IV which I am sure those doctors are aware of,then this is just blowing smoke at an uncomfortable reality. Either fervent belief in religion is a disorder or it is not.

I think they are asking the wrong questions here.

My questions...What is it he said he believed?

What was his justification for his point of view? He spoke freely about this.

Did any of those doctors who recommended the Islam classes actually go to those classes themselves?

What was taught in those classes?

Did anyone actually look up what The Quran, Hadith, and Sunna say about what the Jihadist doctor said?

What exactly do the unbelieving doctors know about Islam?

As long as the general public is ignorant about Islam in its totality, including the motive for Jihad, we will all be in danger.

I would like to see the psychiatric community creates a new diagnosis, something like "delusions caused by belief in Islam" and perhaps medicate Muslims into nonviolence if need be due to their delusions. I would feel much safer. (sarc)

Maj. Hasan's version was correct, since it was based on reading and believing every word the Quran says, unfortunately. Too bad, the Bush and Obama admins. apparently can't or won't read the same words, and/or have inserted their own rose-colored glasses over them. Learn for yourself all about it at the Historyscoper's free site at http://go.to/islamhistory and start shoving it in their faces before another ticking time bomb goes off while handing out SoA(SWT) cards.

I am curious as to why our sublime American prez, Mr. O, has chosen to be in Asia right now, when he is desperately needed here for encouragement and moral support. There is so much activity going on here, regarding the captures, convictions and the putting to death of these jihad nut-jobs that I wonder if he is not in the mid-east somewhere laughing his empty head off at all of this. I still think that the Fort Hood massacre was an inside job. For those who funded Mr. O's campaign, his only responsibility, upon being elected, was to permit more and more tension b/w Israel and Islam so that the greatest majority of Americans, even through political correctness, would be forced to take sides. Then we are involved whether we want to be or not. It's part of the New World Order strategy; it is a way to strengthen bonds with the mid-east, which is what will happen whether the U. S. sides with Islam or with Israel. The mid-east will be the most difficult to incorporate into New World Order b/c of East/West cultural animosity, so this is an indirect way to do it. Mr. O couldn't care less about human lives, here or anywhere else. His only concern is keeping his pockets lined while in office, so that he can keep himself and his family comfortable in the lifestyle to which he believes they are entitled to.
