These are the students who are supposed to be the leaders of the future. What a joke.
Look how the cancellation went down at Princeton. Look at the systematic bullying. This is the state of freedom of speech in the age of jihad. Arab Society president Sami Yabroudi and former president Sarah Mousa issued a joint statement, claiming: "Nonie Darwish is to Arabs and Muslims what Ku Klux Klan members, skinheads, and neo-Nazis are to other minorities, and we decided that the role of her talk in the logical, intellectual discourse espoused by Princeton University needed to be questioned."

For anyone who hasn't yet read it - Ms Darwish's book about sharia 'Cruel and Usual Punishment' is the perfect layperson's guide to the ugliness of sharia; it's brief but fact-packed, beautifully lucid (though at times there are little awkwardnesses in phrasing that reveal that English is not her first language - I'll forgive her those) and she gives full and clear references to all the main sources. I keep it right beside my computer desk so I can refer to it during discussions here. It's getting very well thumbed, and much underlined and annotated.
Those who can't afford to get books like Joseph Schacht on Islamic law, or the 'Reliance of the Traveller', or who just don't have the time to wade through the labyrinth of such, can read Ms Darwish's book, written in layman's language (no beatings about the bush) by someone who grew up in a heavily-islamised sharia-soaked society. You will learn all you really need to know.
It's not expensive, even though it's a nice little hardback edition (blessings upon her publishers!). Every person here who attends a church or a synagogue should place it in the library of same, and advertise it noisily. If you have relatives or friends with whom you've had discussions on the subject of Islam, and whom you think may be beginning to get a clue, give them Ms Darwish's book for Christmas, or during Hanukkah.
(Wafa Sultan's new book, 'A God Who Hates' looks like the perfect companion-piece for Ms Darwish's book; I haven't got it yet, but it's on my must-get list).

Sami Yabroudi and Sarah Mousa should be summarily sued for libel/slander. False statements such as calling someone racist who is not should not be tolerated, and letting it slide only allows for it to continue happening in the future.
Can Nonie Darwish sue these people for defamation? Is as clear an example of a defamatory accusation as there's ever been. And no doubt Nonie's reputation is unfairly-suffering as a result.

Bear in mind that I'm writing this as someone who regards the Klan and Skinheads (although I've got precious little hair myself) as utterly appalling.
If there really were large, active skinhead and KKK groups on campus, I assure you that ugly insinuations about non-white people would be part and parcel of the science curriculum and everyone would just "have to understand" that Jews are offensive to some sensitive souls. Anyone read Elie Wiesel's Night? There's a scene where a Jewish man named Moishe escapes the Nazis, returns to his town, and tries to warn his fellow Jews about where the Nazis are taking them. No one listens, and the people of the town are later hauled away to a concentration camp.

Agreed, and further, the law suit should ask for substantial monetary damages, large enough to attract the caliber of legal representation it would take to be successful in a case against such high profile institutions as Princeton and Columbia.

I heard Nonie Darwish speak a couple of years ago at UC Berkeley. She was allowed to appear, but was booed and shouted down mercilessly. Not a great day for freedom of speech, either.

Hugh, this article is now kind of far back, but I hope I can get a reply to this.
I was led to understand that the whole thing about those communal apartments was because of two reasons:
1) Shelter was guaranteed in the Soviet constitution (at least, in the 1977 version I once had a copy of.) IOW, it was illegal for the government to allow you to be homeless. Not a bad idea, in principle, really (at least if it's only applied to actual citizens of the country, and the government is not expected to overburden its services with hundreds of thousands of newcomers every year who want that service, too).
2) People started wanted to move into Moscow en masse, a population increase the central planners couldn't deal with (much like the Canadian system can't really handle mass immigration into the country), which also led to the population cap on the city.
They had to come up with a solution under the terms of their own systemic philosophy.
Now - I'm against being forced to live with strangers, yes - but it's a bad thing when economics forces it as well (well, I am inherently asocial). But I had to do that once, it was a disaster - shared a house with this other couple and their kids, and then they moved another friend in, then the mother, then a whole nuther family, just to save money. There were eventually 14 people, two dogs and a cat living there - intolerable.
Homeless shelters kind of suck, too.
Our problem here is inadequate public housing, which seems to go to immigrants first, with Canadian families on waiting lists, and Canadian singles or childless couples being on their own. :s
(Yes, as a Canadian, I do have a bit of socialism bred into me. I do believe it's the duty of the government to help take care of its citizens - however, as I am not a globalist, I don't think this responsibility extends to ANYONE else, and would like to see "foreign aid" redirected home.)
