DEARBORN, Michigan (Reuters) - At Tuhama's Lebanese deli in Dearborn, and at bakeries and barbershops throughout town, it's no secret the CIA is looking for a few good spies."There is a lot of talk, and nobody likes it," said Hamze Chehade, a 48-year-old Lebanese-American, taking a bite of his chicken shawarma.
In dire need of agents fluent in Arabic, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency has made an unusual public show of its recruiting effort in Dearborn -- a city of 100,000 with the densest Arab population in the United States.
The agency has bought full-page ads in Arabic-language newspapers and it is rolling out TV ads aimed at luring Arab-Americans and Iranian-Americans to spycraft.
But despite a weak economy and high unemployment, the CIA will find it hard to hire here, residents say. Many see U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East as misguided and anger over the perceived mistreatment of Arab-Americans runs deep.
Reuters doesn't mention it, of course, but there is also the idea that it is wrong for Muslims to fight other Muslims (cf. Koran 4:92), and wrong to work for an Infidel polity.
It won't be easy to win hearts and minds here, they say."If anyone goes, they would be just going for the money, not following the heart," said Chehade, a cabinet-maker who immigrated from Lebanon 21 years ago.
CIA recruiters said the agency sorely needs speakers of Arabic and other languages due to the intensifying insurgency in Afghanistan and the continuing U.S. occupation of Iraq.
"Obviously, with the wars going on in the Middle East, that's really on America's radar," said Henry Medina, who is in charge of CIA recruiting in the Midwest....
One TV spot showed a dinner party at an Arab-American home, with a narrator intoning, "Your nation, your world. They're worth protecting. Careers in the CIA." The camera zooms out to show the party taking place in a modern high-rise building, then a view of the United States from outer space....
"People have been told, 'Your name is Mohammed; your name is Ahmed; you must be a terrorist," said Osama Siblani, Lebanese-born publisher of the Dearborn-based Arab American News. "How do you bring people into the government when they have been subjected to a great deal of discrimination?"
He added: "You have to believe that what you are doing is the right thing, otherwise you are just a gun for hire."
The problem here, of course, is that Osama Siblani and his ilk have done nothing to root out jihadis from their ranks. Then they try to claim victim status.
Siblani, whose newspaper runs CIA recruiting ads, met CIA Director Leon Panetta during a September visit to Dearborn. "I said, treat us like Americans," he said. "We love America but does America love us?"
What exactly has Siblani done to show he loves America? Islamic groups have generally opposed every anti-terror effort, and have concentrated on claiming to be victimized rather than done anything to demonstrate their loyalty to Constitutional principles and freedoms.
Dawud Walid, head of the Michigan branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, agreed that many Arab-Americans were torn between feelings of patriotism and resentment of U.S. government policy at home and abroad."I think transparency will do a lot more than airing TV commercials. There's a large amount of fear and mistrust with the government," Walid said....
There no doubt is, but there should be even more mistrust for CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas terror funding case that has never seen an anti-terror initiative that it liked.
On Warren Avenue, where signs in Arabic outnumber those in English, other residents said they doubted the CIA would find many willing recruits in Dearborn."It's not lack of patriotism. It's questioning of wrong policy," said Mohammed, a 24-year-old graduate student of Libyan descent who asked not to use his last name.
Inside Tuhama's, Chehade said he would warn his adult sons to consider the consequences of signing on with the CIA.
"People are going to hate you," he said.
Now, why exactly is that?
As I understand it, there are plenty of people out there who are fluent in the desired languages but who are barred from employment in the CIA, or the FBI for that matter, on the grounds that they are not mohammedans or because they are dissident pro-freedom mohammedans.
I could easily be wrong, but certainly I have seen plenty of material online, and even run into a few private individuals whose views suggest that there are ample numbers of Catholics, Copts, Jews, Assyrians, Baluchis, Bahais, Hindus, Kurds and the like from the countries in question that know the languages, local dialects, culture and mores from deep life-long experience.
The problem seems to be that they are not pro-sharia/caliphate/jihad
It seems that it has become policy to recruit primarily, if not exclusively, from within the populations most likely to be riddled with jihaddi sympathizers or even agents.
Not what I would call a brilliant idea.
And given the personnel shortage, the translation backlog and stories of intel leaks and deceptive mistranslations that have come out, I don't think it's working too well.

Political correctness has outpaced common sense more quickly than we thought.
I am sure that if the CIA declares that muzlem agents won't be tried for treason if caught spying for al-Qaida the number of interested would soar.
Of course, that condition will be offered only to the first time offenders.
Should a muzlem be caught a second time he will be ordered to see a (muzlem)psychiatrist and allowed to resume his work only after the psychiatrist declares him cured.
But the third time offenders will be dealt firmly and have their salary significantly reduced. That should teach them a lesson!

There's perhaps a silver lining in this particular dark cloud. Any Muslim who is hired by the CIA will either be loyal to America or not. If the former (assuming that there is such), then this person's interpretation of Islam would be an invalid one and at the very least no harm will be done to the CIA and America by a person of this type. Actually, some good might come of it, either by way of this person doing valuable work or, just as important, if not more so, finally realizing that Islam is unredeemable and that one brought up a Muslim who eventually comprehends all the rot which resides in Islam has no true recourse but to leave his faith, even cultural explanations for remaining a Muslim be damned (a la Ajami).
On the other hand, should Muslims be hired who betray America (a greater likelihood), this will not end political correctness and multiculturalism in and of itself but it will be one more stepping stone to the realization by America and the West at large that Muslims are indeed the enemy, all of them. Of course, one has to also consider the possibility that both kinds of Muslims outlined above could go to work for the CIA. In this scenario, the silver lining would pretty much dissipate because those non-Muslims eager to find anything that would exculpate Islam would point to the "good" Muslims as proof that a benovolent Islam exists, which, of course, is not the case. Thin ice here.

I'm quite sure that if the CIA would ask Brigitte Gabriel, she herself would be glad to help, or she could recommend Arabic speakers for the CIA.
Or find Christians or Jews in muslim-occupied lands.
They could even see if Israel could provide people.
But I doubt they're asking people like Brigitte Gabriel or Israel. They're too enamored with CAIR.

But, that's precisely the problem; by Muslim's lights America, squarely in Dar al Harb, is emphatically NOT their nation -- though they would sorely like to make this their world.
Seems like after the Fort Hood terror attack, all of our institutions would be reluctant to hire muslims, or at least they would be extremely careful which ones they hired. It's hopeless; they just don't get it and never will. That is truly amazing to me, especially the CIA, because their people have lived and worked with muslims in islamic countries. They, of all people, should understand that islam is incompatible with democracy, peace, freedom, and tolerance. They are not naive bureaucrats but I guess the naive, clueless, PC bureaucrats are in control and our security hangs in the balance. Very depressing.

"An FBI report shows more hate-motivated crime" By Marisol Bello, USA Today article Tuesday November 24th.
According to the article the number of crimes against black people and members of religious groups increased in 2008, making up a growing share of incidents motivated by bias, the FBI reported Monday.
These catgories accounted for 56% of the 7,783 hate crimes reported in 2008. Overall, hate crimes increased 2% from 2007.
The number of attacks on blacks increased 8% to 2,876, accounting for seven of every 10 race motivated crimes.
Hate crimes based on sexual orientation increased 3% to 1,297, although the number of people victimized went up 13% to 1,706.
Hate crimes based on religion rose 9% to 1,519. Most, 67%, were againts Jews. Incidents involving Catholics increased 23% to 75. Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, says traditional Catholics have become more vocal against abortion and gay marriage, making them targets for those who disagree with them.
Nowhere does this article mention Arab-Americans or Muslims. In a recent poll I commented about in my earlier blog, 59% of Americans feel that Muslims are discriminated against, well this article and the FBI findings creates a plethora of myths to that.
So the arab communities feel that they are discriminated against alot, well they need to read these figures. The CIA discriminates against the Jews who can speak Arabic by not allowing them the job and Arab-Christians as well.
How do we know they will not help the jihadists by exposing to them the covert actions taken by the CIA on mosques or Islamic "charity" organizations? We must remember that Muslims are forbidden according to their cult beliefs to fight against other Muslims or work for the infidels.
CAIR's henchman Dawud Walid said this in reference to the CIA's recruiting of Arabs in Dearborn Michigan:

CAIR is trying to bambuzzle the media that Muslim Arab Americans are victims of intolerance, hate, and abuse, while cultivating their brainwashed followers inside of law enforcement to tip off FBI terror targets. And the CIA wants to still continue to recruit from here? The FBI recently cut off ties to CAIR after these startling revelation. Oh but wait, we have the plethora of political correctness poisoning our society and that would be "discriminating" to not ask the Muslim Arabs to work for the CIA. While discriminating Arab Christians and Arab speaking Jews.
If they do this to the FBI, will they not do the same to the CIA?
Remember, Muslims are loyal to Islam first and their country of birth second. Just ask Nidal Hasan about that.
Nidal Malik Hasan was born in Virginia but didn't think of himself as an American: on a form he filled out at the Muslim Community Center in Silver Spring, Maryland, he gave his nationality not as "American" but as "Palestinian." A mosque official found that curious, saying: "I don't know why he listed Palestinian. He was not born in Palestine."
So he identified himself as Palestinian and was a devout Muslim - so what? These things, of course, have no significance if one assumes that Islam is a Religion of Peace and that when a devout Muslim reads the Koran's many injunctions to wage war against unbelievers, he knows that they have no force or applicability for today's world. Unfortunately, all too many Muslims around the world demonstrate in both their words and their deeds that they take such injunctions quite seriously. And Nidal Hasan gave some indications that he may have been among them.
The CIA needs to do what the FBI did and cut all ties to CAIR.
They want to say we love America, but does America love us?
They need to remember that America gave them a fresh start and allowed them to build their shops, restaurants, mosques, and have their own newspapers. They need to remember that we gave Iraqi dissidants back in the early 90's, political asylum due to the Gulf War and fear of Saddam. Would Saudi Arabia have done that, or the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait? I think not. They did not even do it for the Palestinian refugees they displaced, but that is another blog.
They did not question our policies when they were streaming upon our shores.
They are committed to their Ummah(muslim community).
We need to remember that discrimination still exists today of non-arabs in arab lands and non-muslims for that matter. Slavery against non-arabs in arab lands still go on. Countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait to name a few. And these have nothing to do with American foreign policies. But you will not see CAIR harp on this.
These non-muslims are brought to these countries to work for pennies a day, work in the most deplorable conditions and many hours, sleep in deplorable conditions and with not much to eat. Their passports are taken and they become slaves of their employers. The women sold as sex slaves.
The Arabs here have it good, they need to remember that when they want to cry discrimination when something is not condusive to their needs.
