Silly me. I thought that after an Islamic jihadist murdered twelve innocent non-Muslims, it would be the non-Muslims who would need reassuring and protecting. But of course that non-existent backlash takes priority over 12 dead unbelievers.
"Some Muslims fear backlash after rampage: In the wake of Fort Hood tragedy, Houston authorities try to assure the faithful steps are being taken to keep followers safe," by Moises Mendoza and Lindsay Wise for the Houston Chronicle, November 7:
KILLEEN -- Almost exactly 24 hours after Thursday's shootings at Fort Hood, Sgt. Fahad Kamal knelt in a small red-brick mosque near the base and prayed for strength. The 26-year-old combat medic from Sugar Land worships every Friday at Masjidu Ttaqwa on Fort Hood Road, where suspected shooter Nidal Malik Hasan attended services after moving to Killeen from Washington, D.C., this summer.
"I just want to show myself in a positive way for the religion I represent," he said. "I just hope people don't stereotype."
Groups reeling
From Killeen to Houston, Thursday's killings at Fort Hood left Texas' tight-knit Muslim community reeling. Though the attack has been universally condemned by U.S. Muslim organizations, some worry that it could give the ignorant an excuse to stereotype and lash out at Muslims -- or worse.
The problem, of course, is that so many Muslims point to Islamic texts and teachings to justify violence and supremacism. But that, of course, is never mentioned here.
In March 2009, five Muslims accused of helping plot the September 11 attacks, including the notorious Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, wrote an "Islamic Response to the Government's Nine Accusations." In it they quote the Koran to justify their jihad war against the American Infidels. "In God's book," asserts the letter, "he ordered us to fight you everywhere we find you, even if you were inside the holiest of all holy cities, The Mosque in Mecca, and the holy city of Mecca, and even during sacred months. In God's book, verse 9 [actually verse 5], Al-Tawbah [the Koran's 9th chapter]: Then fight and slay the pagans wherever you find them, and seize them, and besiege them and lie in wait for them in each and every ambush."
Osama bin Laden's communiqués have also quoted the Koran copiously. In his 1996 "Declaration of War against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places," he quotes seven Koran verses: 3:145; 47:4-6; 2:154; 9:14; 47:19; 8:72; and the notorious "Verse of the Sword," 9:5. Bin Laden began his October 6, 2002, letter to the American people with two Koran quotations, both of a martial bent: "Permission to fight (against disbelievers) is given to those (believers) who are fought against, because they have been wronged and surely, Allah is Able to give them (believers) victory" (22:39) and "Those who believe, fight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, fight in the cause of Taghut (anything worshipped other than Allah e.g. Satan). So fight you against the friends of Satan; ever feeble is indeed the plot of Satan" (4:76)."
In a sermon broadcast in 2003, bin Laden rejoiced in a Koranic exhortation to violence as being a means to establish the truth: "Praise be to Allah who revealed the verse of the Sword to his servant and messenger [the Islamic Prophet Muhammad], in order to establish truth and abolish falsehood." The "Verse of the Sword" is Koran 9:5: "Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful."
The idea that the Koran commands them to do violence to unbelievers runs from the very top of the international jihadist movement - Osama bin Laden - down to the rank and file. Overall, it is extremely rare - if not impossible - to find a jihadist who does not cite the Koran to justify his actions. Britain-based jihadist preacher, Abu Yahya, asserts simply, "It says in the Koran that we must try as much as we can to terrorise the enemy." And Pakistani jihad leader Beitullah Mehsud claims that "Allah on 480 occasions in the Holy Koran extols Muslims to wage jihad. We only fulfill God's orders. Only jihad can bring peace to the world." He specified that his jihad - struggle in Arabic - was an offensive military operation: "We will continue our struggle until foreign troops are thrown out. Then we will attack them in the US and Britain until they either accept Islam or agree to pay jazia." The "jazia," or jizya, is a tax that the Koran (9:29) specifies must be levied on Jews, Christians, and some other non-Muslim faiths as a sign of their subjugation under the Islamic social order.
One pro-Osama website put it this way: "The truth is that a Muslim who reads the Koran with devotion is determined to reach the battlefield in order to attain the reality of Jihad. It is solely for this reason that the Kufaar [unbelievers] conspire to keep the Muslims far away from understanding the Koran, knowing that Muslims who understand the Koran will not distance themselves from Jihad."
In Houston, government officials have been working to reassure Muslims that they're safe, pointing out that there have been few cases of retaliation locally after previous attacks involving Muslims.
There have been few cases anywhere. So few that CAIR has had to invent them.
How much longer can the authorities try to suppress the truth about homeland jihad? Last night on SBS TV there was a section examining 'the problems Muslims have in the West"
I nearly fell off my chair (Except I was already sitting on the floor)

It must be terrible to be a Western Muslim!
How aweful to have to be around those mean, nasty kuffar who keep you from excercising your Allah given rights to rule the unenlightened...must be a lot like being an Obama czar.
Who's stereotyping you, Sgt. Fahad Kamal? I don't believe that all Muslims are malevolent jihadists. Far from it, you naive fool.
In fact your Koran tells me that Allah prescribes otherwise. Read everything in the 9th after v. 120.
The truth will come to you. Then you will know what to do, my faithful son.
Why don't we deal with what happened and not what could happen. If we're going to deal with what could happen then let's get the facts straight and stop allowing muslim to immigrate to the US. Why would they want to expose themselves to a possible backlash anyway when they can stay in their muslim countries and get free candy when the jihadis attack. Stupid muslims...stay away or fear the backlash.
Oho. So now we know what his mosque was?
"Masjidu Ttaqwa on Fort Hood Road, where suspected shooter Nidal Malik Hasan attended services".
And from all accounts he was really devout, so he would have been a regular attender. (But anybody here wanna bet that somehow *nobody* at the mosque, not even the imam, will own up to having known him? )
Why hasn't an unannounced raid-and-search been carried out on that mosque and its imam's house, already?
Attic to basement. Overwhelming force. Sniffer dogs - those trained to detect drugs, those trained to detect explosives, those trained to detect cadavers. Detailed forensic examination of all financial records and each and every computer they've got.
When a self-identifying Muslim carries out a mass killing of non-Muslims on non-Muslim soil, it should become standard procedure to find out ASAP the mosque or mosques that that person attended, and give that mosque or mosques the third degree. ANY detected irregularity should cause that mosque to be shut down - bang!

Muslims are a police issue in America. Islam is a public issue in America. We have to distinguish. If we try to act like the police, we become the criminals.
Truepeers writes more about this at:
http://covenantzone.blogspot.com/2009/11/wests-cult-of-human-sacrifice.html
As said on another thread, I think we need the backlash - now!
We need it in a clean and orderly way, with the authorities screening military staff & travelers based on religious beliefs and ethnicity, with particular focus on adherents of The Religion of Peace. (See? I'm even being polite here.)
We need our authorities (heck, we pay taxes, don't we?) to take care of this, firmly and without fear of the 'racist' stigmata. This is justified merely from the failure of imams, muftis etc. to act responsibly in face of violence being used in the name of Islam, and should include revoking any and all benefits granted to 'religious' groups if they do not unconditionally reject violence in the name of religion.
Signing the Proposed Charter for Muslim Understanding would be a good move towards proving moderate intentions. Refusing to sign, on the other hand, constitutes a clear indication that a group is fundamentalist, not moderate. In such cases, the FBI would be fully justified in keeping these groups under constant scrutiny, refuse to grant them the benefit of doubt, and clamp down every time the group acts in ways not fully compliant with law and Constitutions.
Failing that, we will soon face some very real and very ugly backlash from less disciplined groups. I don't think we want that.
I've got "Islam Unveiled: Disturbing Questions About the World's Fastest Growing Faith" by Robert Spencer, on audio. I've been going back over the book. On page 10, quoting Sheikh Omar bin Dari bin Muhammad (judge of Great Britain's Sharia who posted a fatwa on al-Muhajiroun's website), "US Government and its military are a legitimate target as far as Islam is concerned." Muslims can legitimately attack American troops, etc.
Friday morning I sent Spencer's Frontpagemag piece to our local radio talk show host (WSKY 97.3 FM) for discussion. The host read part of the piece on the air, only he seemed to hesitate over the phrase, "Major Hasan’s motive was perfectly clear — but it was one that the forces of political correctness and the Islamic advocacy groups in the United States have been working for years to obscure....."
I called in asking the host how he defined the term political correctness. Did he think it true that political correctness is an inherent part of the problem? The host answered (paraphrasing) that the media probably assumes that the public at large is not intelligent enough to make the necessary distinctions, implying, I suppose, there might be gratuitous violence against innocent people.
Back to Islam Unveiled. In the forward to the book, David Pryce-Jones wrote: "Leaders and opinion makers including President George W. Bush...were quick to assert that bin Laden was a terrorist pure and simple, whose actions were a violation of Islam rather than a natural expression of it. Islam, these leaders maintained, is essentially a peaceful religion.
Pryce-Jones continued, "Apologetics of this kind served a useful purpose. At a time of tension and potential backlash, IT WAS RIGHT (emphasis mine) to ensure that innocent Muslims were not held guilty by association....."
Needless to say, I am troubled by this rationale (quite common even on the Right) that the president and opinion makers need to lie about the enemy in order to avoid a potential backlash. It seems to me, had President Bush simply declared, vigilantism will not be tolerated against American Muslims, that is all that needed to be said on that score. Instead Mr. Bush mislead, just as Obama is misleading (and then some), the American people about the enemy; a discreditable approach to warfare.
BTW, Muslims don't need to fear that we stereotype them. They're doing just fine themselves...
My apologies: Sheikh Omar bin Bakri bin Muhammad
.....authorities try to assure the faithful steps are being taken to keep followers safe
And yet I don't feel that ANYTHING is being done to assure me that I am safe from moslems or islam.
Interestingly, Danish state television (DR - nicknamed D(D)R by bloggers due to extensive PC style reporting) did very well in explaining that the killer was a devout Muslim duly making relevant invocations while making random human sacrifices to his beloved moongod.
OK, perhaps they didn't phrase it quite that way :) But they did report it frankly for all to understand the context.
You knuckleheads who think you'll turn Muslims from their beliefs by asserting that the truth will come, are the real naive ones ~ especially when you primp and preen your egos by adding things like "my faithful son."
This attack teaches us AGAIN that it's only safe to assume the worst about any Muslim, as far has his or her intentions might be toward us. I am most certainly not saying we need to be unkind to them on the street or in the business place or to be unnecessarily confrontational or attack them without provocation. But we must be eternally aware of the threat that Islam presents to any and all who won't bend their knee to it.
And vigilant and prepared to stand against it fearlessly.
Nobody knows what's going on in the head of any other person, so to give another man the benefit of the doubt ~ especially if he belongs to a religion that teaches him to kill you ~ and assume a priori that they mean you no harm, well; that's just stupid.
You can call someone a "faithful son" because it makes you feel warm and fuzzy but that doesn't mean he won't cut your throat the first chance he gets. In fact, your fuzz will be seen as weakness and you'll be the first to go. Pilgrim.
It was the same after 9/11. Over 3000 killed on that day, and the authorities were rushing around to protect, not tall buildings, or the White House, or the Pentagon from further attacks, but mosques.
The lesson here is - Violence works.
Getting past the issue of trying to determine what percentage of Muslims really oppose violent extremism, one thing seems indisputable: The Muslim community worldwide has come to terms with the fact that violent extremists are in their community, and they've come to accept that state of affairs. No doubt some of them accept that fact happily, and probably some accept it grudgingly and regretfully---but virtually all of them DO accept it. A statement condemning violence after the fact, and denial it has any connection to Islam is all we will ever hear from them. And following that, it seems to me that we can conclude that "moderate" Muslims are of virtually no use whatsoever to any non-Muslim society when it comes to fighting against jihad.
If all Muslims want to die in jihad then maybe we should give it to them.
If they DO accept violent extremists in their midst, reluctantly or otherwise, then all Muslims should be judged by the company they keep.
Also telling, to me at least, is that GW Bush has been to visit the troops at Ft. Hood.
BHO, not so much. In his defense he did manage to give it a sidebar during his shout-out to friends at the American Indian Tribal Conference.
[Puke]
sonofawalker,
That whole piece was very good, but the end was perfect. The only part I disagree with is the idea that Islam can ever be peacefully integrated into our society. There simply isn't a historical, or social model to base that assertion upon. This discord is just part of the natural process, which is the disconnect from reality that is this current social engineeering project in regards to Islam in the west. The "melting pot" has a flaw ... that is Islam. Muslims will never integrate into non-Islamic societies, they will always form their own communities, and eventually seek autonomy. In the end they will subjugate non-Muslims under Sharia norms as is the madate of their faith, when they have the moral, and numerical authority to carry out their "divine" directives.
LOVE THIS THOUGH!
"The really perverse thing about political correctness isn’t that they give you slops to eat; it’s that they give you slops to eat and expect you to smile and ask for seconds. The entire exercise is pointless except as an exercise and confirmation of power over you.
Societies don’t last long when their leaders become ridiculous. It’s a dangerous moment. In many ways the damage that Hasan created in Fort Hood, bad though it was, will be as nothing to the cannons he’s untied that are now rolling unsecured around the deck."
Funny, how after 12-07-41, Franklin Roosevelt and Earl Warren -- two great left-liberal icons -- didn't worry about any "backlash" or "stereotyping". Just the opposite, they WERE the backlash, and the ones doing the stereotyping. How far our country has fallen in 70 years!

Thank you for noting this, Darcy. Another of Hasan's victims died.
Here's a good article on the heroic officer who stopped Hasan's rampage. She kept going even after he had shot her three times:
'Tough cookie' Sgt. Kimberly Munley took down Fort Hood gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2009/11/06/2009-11-06_police_sgt_kimberly_munley_credited_with_ending_fort_hood_gunman_maj_nidal_malik.html
Thankfully, she is expected to make a full recovery. Her nickname is "Mighty Mouse".
Gravenimage - thanks for that link.
I clicked and read all about feisty Kimberley Munley. A most inspiring story.
God bless the Mighty Mouse. Her two little girls must be bursting with pride to have such a brave, smart mother with such excellent aim; and let us thank God that they still have her, that her bravery and devotion to duty did NOT bring about her death.
If Muslims hate America so much, I suggest they get off this land pronto and go back to Mecca where they belong.
I like Truepeers' post very much, though he and I differ on most ideas. Like you, I see no hope of Islamic integration into Modernity. I responded that the over-lapping, and in my opinion, contradictory holistic paradigms, or "Truth Horizons," will likely drive the violence-prone Muslim to violence because his cognitive dissonance will be rewarded when he opts for jihadi violence, and rewarded not only by the ummah but by Modernity! He will be seen and lauded as a victim of Modernity. He has permission from Modernity to act out his violence against us because-- we give it to him!
Thanks for the feed-back, mate.
Cheers, Dag. Son of Walker.
I hope no Muslims are attacked, but it's getting harder to
weed out the moderates from the radicals.
In the UK the BBC, in their relentless quest to put over the Muslim point of view, interviewed Mahdi Bray of the Muslim Brotherhood of the USA on the Fort Hood killings. He said we shouldn't blame or retaliate against Muslims over this incident and should look to our collective foreign policies that fuels this kind of action.
Not having heard of Bray before I did a search on JW's search engine to find he had form (haven't they all) and I was able to advise the BBC that if they wanted to put an Islamic apologist with a criminal record and known links to the CAIR to support their policy, then they picked the right man. However if the intention was to convince us of non Islamic links to this incident then they failed miserably.

Or 14 - one woman was pregnant.
Related, the Danish government has (as part as budget negotiations for 2010) proposed that misfit immigrants (read: Muslims) will be paid up to $20.000 to get their a***** out of here and move to a country with a culture that fits them better than free, democratic Denmark. Since these difficult persons cost us a lot of money already, we expect this to be a very worthwhile investment, monetarily as well as in terms of non-monetary benefits to society.
We need to start systematic profiling - explicitly based on ethnicity and religion - now!
Islam - a religion of Peace . NOT.
They do it becuase they are commanded to do so by their religion, which is actually an Isolamofacist system of government.
All the men are extremely mentally conflicted.
Recall your youngest years, and the love you had for your mother. As you get older, to be a real man, you must despise all women, including your mother, for they are inferior, and will lead you astray. They do not have equal rights with you under the law. You are taught to keep them covered with smothering layers of clothing so no man may enjoy the sight of them. If you catch your sister with alone with another boy or man not related to her, you are encouraged to kill her to restore your family's honor.
Makes for a massively unstable mental state where the male can not have a full equal relationship with a woman.
That's why so many of the fanatical ones have homosexual tendicies, even as they denounce homosexuality and kill openly homosexual men. Everything is done in secret. Beating their wives, secretely yearning for another man, and even fighting their wars. They rarely meet other men in battle head on, but prefer ambushes where they can kill as many women and children as possible.
This religion, almost by design, creates and nourishes sadistic psychopaths, due to the mental conflicts of a normal human being with the requirements of the Koran, Suras, and Hadiths of the religion.
Imagine the head of your church and state being a sadistic pedophile, and you are taught to worship him for he is the most holy of all men. And that the most basic demonstration of trust, telling the truth, is taught to be a valid practice only with others of your religion. If any other religion, it's encouraged you lie through your teeth so that you can better defeat them.
No wonder they are all cowards who fight behind their women and children whenever possible, so they can then claim the opponent is guilty of "war crimes" due to the inevitible collateral damage they instigated.
The true "wonder" is how long so many Americans will continue to act like a nation of numbskulls that have bought into their lies and continue to give them a pass, instead of calling their evil religion to an accounting.
I like Ann Coulter's solution: We should invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity."
No nation building, no wasting of our troops lives trying to fight a politically correct battle plan, just destroy their will to fight and convert them. Anything else is a waste of time and money, as their religion is incompatible with a free society.
No nation- or democracy-building, please! Remember democracy-building in South Vietnam - did that pan out or not? I guess hardly anyone remembers that 'building democracy' was part of the battle plan to engage in the, well, not very successful war in Vietnam.
Fast in, fast out. 1 year or so should do it. We need to demonstrate that anyone attacking us WILL be pulverized. Then, when they become interested in more constructive philosophies and religions than Islam, we certainly do have something to offer on that account, too.
The main stream media is still soft stepping this story.
Try to imagine the media reaction to a Christian preaching,
bible carrying army officer shooting up an abortion clinic.
Every media outlet in the country would be denouncing
conservative Christians religions, preachers, schools, you
name it the press would be cursing it.
Wildjew - I think that both Spencer and Pryce-Jones have evolved quite considerably in their thinking since that book - Islam Unveiled - came out in 2002.
