TORONTO -- Counterterrorism officials are investigating a group of youths who allegedly left Canada for East Africa two weeks ago, amid concerns they may have gone to join the Somali militant group Al-Shabab.Two sources familiar with the case said investigators had been canvassing Toronto's large Somali-Canadian community for information about as many as five men who departed Canada together in early November.
They are believed to have flown to Kenya, the sources said. Kenya borders the region of southern Somalia controlled by Al-Shabab, an Islamist militia aligned with al-Qaeda and sometimes likened to the Taliban.
The investigation comes as the Somali conflict has become a key focus of North American counterterrorism officials. Several Somali-American youths have left the Midwestern United States to join the Shabab, and the commissioner of the RCMP said in a speech last month he is concerned about a similar trend in Canada.
"Radicalization within the U.S. Somali community may be an indicator of similar processes at work in Canada," Commissioner William Elliott said in his Oct. 30 address to the Canadian Association of Security and Intelligence Studies in Ottawa.
"As you know, we have one of the largest Somali diaspora communities in the Western world. The potential follow-on threat, from a Canadian and RCMP perspective, is Somali-Canadians who travel to Somalia to fight and then return, imbued with both extremist ideology and the skills necessary to translate it into direct action."

This begs the question: why do you let them return at all? By returning to Somalia, they are effectively saying they have no reason to be treated as refugees. They are able to return to their native land without fear. Let them stay there.

And this guy works for CIDA, so he’s no stranger to dealing with third world folk.

Stand in line, a-hole. Real Canadians have been trying to get OUR drug of choice legalized for years. And there's more Canadians that smoke weed than there are Somalis here (so far.)
If the Somalis get their way before we do, you can imagine the backlash that that would cause. I can't express how mightily pissed _I_ would be.

Canada made the same cultural mistakes that any other western nation has made.
They believed that Islam was a preigion of peace.
They thought these refugees were looking for political assylum.
They believed these refugees were looking to make a better life in Caada and contribute to our society.
Some Muslims have quietly left the ideiology behind and are cnotributing members of society. The rest cannot be helped. It is the nature of the Islamic beast.
Our Conservative government, under Stephen Harper, is doing all it can to gain a majority government here in Canada. Once they have their mandate then they can take the steps they truly want to take against this threat. Until then, they have to listen to the dictates of the leftist parties of Liberals, New Democrats, and Parti Quebecois who hold the balance of power.
GOOD! I hope they all leave and end up in that hell-hole, shot down and rotting in a shallow grave, unmarked and not missed.

I don't blame Canada for letting them in the first time. Canada made a good will gesture. We've been letting them in since 1965. We all made a mistake but it wasn't STUPIDE!
What is wrong is letting them BACK IN after they leave the country and go to terrorist training camps. They came as refugees. Returning to Somalia should have resulted in forfeit of refugee status and denial of Canadian reentry. If you can go home then you're not a refugee.
Not at all surprising. Canada is so politically correct and fears immensly the bacjklash of Islam they actually allow anyone in. They are also a very proud secular nation which has proven to be all Islamists need to go for the jugular.
The entire west needs to srtand up and stop ALL immigration involving the Muslim world. Keep them where they are it is a lot easier to watch their movements than trying to watch them in dozens of different nations.

As far back as the early '70's they vowed to take over the UK and W.Europe. Several years ago a leading Imam in Denmark stated that within 25 years all W.European nations would be under Islamic rule without haveing to strike the sword of allah, done purely by the numbers of immigrants combined with the huge birthrates of muslim families. Then we heard from another Imam in the middle east who said there would be no peace with islam until every nation from W.Europe through the Euphrates was under islamic rule. Then a couple of weeks ago yet another Imam stated that islams goal is to rule all lands from China through Italy.
These people have plans, goals and the psychotic will to follow through, and unless people in the west wake up we are doomed.
