Obama extends hand to Iran again, Iran spits back again

But hey, if it didn't work the first hundred times, there's always hope for the 101st.

"Obama calls for new relationship with Iran on anniversay [sic] of embassy takeover," by Michael Muskal for the Los Angeles Times, November 4:

President Obama today called for a new relationship with Iran in a statement that marked the 30th anniversary of the takeover by Iranian militants of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.

The seizure of the embassy by radical students marked the beginning of Iran's turn to hard-line policies. Fifty-two Americans were held hostage for 444 days.

"This event helped set the United States and Iran on a path of sustained suspicion, mistrust and confrontation," Obama said in his statement. "I have made it clear that the United States of America wants to move beyond this past, and seeks a relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran based upon mutual interests and mutual respect."...

And the response:

"Iran's Khamenei rejects U.S. outreach," by Thomas Erdbrink and William Branigin for the Washington Post, November 4:

TEHRAN -- Iran's supreme leader, spurning what he described as several personal overtures from President Obama, warned Tuesday that negotiating with the United States would be "naive and perverted" and that Iranian politicians should not be "deceived" into starting such talks.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 70, said Obama has approached him several times through oral and written messages. It was the second time that Khamenei, who wields ultimate political and religious authority in Iran, has referred to the president's outreach.

The White House has not confirmed sending letters to the Iranian supreme leader but has acknowledged a willingness to talk to Tehran and said it has sought to communicate with Iranian leaders in a variety of ways.

In his harshest comments yet on the Obama administration, Khamenei said in a speech Tuesday that the United States has ill intentions toward Iran and is not to be trusted.

"The new U.S. president has said nice things," he said. "He has given us many spoken and written messages and said: 'Let's turn the page and create a new situation. Let's cooperate with each other in resolving world problems.' "

Khamenei said he had responded in March to Obama's overtures, referring to a speech in which he said he would wait for changes in U.S. policy toward Iran before reassessing ties.

Since then, Khamenei said, "what we have witnessed is completely the opposite of what they have been saying and claiming. On the face of things, they say, 'Let's negotiate.' But alongside this, they threaten us and say that if these negotiations do not achieve a desirable result, they will do this and that."

Khamenei urged Iranian representatives to be extremely careful when dealing with the United States.

"Whenever they smile at the officials of the Islamic revolution, when we carefully look at the situation, we notice that they are hiding a dagger behind their back," he said. "They have not changed their intentions."...

Iranian authorities, meanwhile, warned the opposition against using Wednesday's commemorative events to stage protests against the government. Opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have urged supporters to demonstrate during the anniversary rallies, news agencies reported.

"Only anti-American rallies in front of the former American Embassy in Tehran are legal," the head of Tehran's security forces said in a statement. "Other gatherings or rallies on Wednesday are illegal and will be strongly confronted by the police."

Only anti-American rallies.

Buraq Hussein has only reaped contempt from the human-rights violators he's been trying to become friends with since his first day in office. Would a bow to Ahmadinahandjob and Khamenei work? Maybe a little stroll while holding hands with them, Bush-with-the-Saudi-chief-inbred-keffiyeh'd-bedouin style?

I suppose that the Hussein administration might run out of ideas for appeasing mahound-worshippers before any of them produces any of the results they desire.

"But hey, if it didn't work the first hundred times, there's always hope for the 101st."

Isn't a definition of insanity "doing the same thing over and over thinking there will be a different result."

Something like that. I suppose we can call him "Insane Hussein."

OT -

There hasn't been any "Hate Mail Bag" for awhile now.

The members of the religion of peace are slacking off?

Probably tired of saying "I keeel you!" all the time.

From the Supreme Leader..."Whenever they smile at the officials of the Islamic revolution, when we carefully look at the situation, we notice that they are hiding a dagger behind their back," he said.

Hiding a dagger behind his back, while smiling and talking nice, is the trademark of Rasool Obama...The Supreme guy has the not so Supreme guy figured out, and is not falling under any Rasool spells...The Iranian Mullah is smarter than most American liberals...He understands dagger behind your back diplomacy...He practices it himself...

Khamenei must be rubbing his hands with glee. He knows very well that unless the US administration decides to go it alone (which it will NEVER do) he is free to make a fool out of big-o (although it is more accurate to say he is just revealing him to be a fool) without any repercussions. Big-o must be completely bewildered by this behavior - Don't the Iranians WANT to join his league of shinny happy people?

................................

Insanity upon insanity.

To continue to "reach out" to Iran, crude rebuff after crude rebuff, is just embarrassing. To continue to do this even after Iran's ugly savaging of its own people in the wake of this year's fraudulent presidential elections underscores the absurdity of regarding the Iranian regime as in any way decent or rational. To do this *on the anniversary of the takeover of the U.S. Embassy* is stunningly obtuse.

The Islamic revolution in Iran and the takeover of the U.S. Embassy gave the West its first real modern taste of resurgent Jihad.

Oh, it wasn't entirely new—the PLO had been blowing up Israelis for years, and there were the Jihad wars in Kashmir and Biafra and Bangladesh. But most Westerners saw these as discrete, regional conflicts, and didn't factor Islam into things at all.

The takeover of the U.S. Embassy, the holding of its personnel for an astounding 444 days, the endless cries of "Death to America"!, kicked off a growing, explicit Jihad threat to America and the West, which led directly to 9/11 and beyond.

That our own President wants to commemorate this appalling anniversary by offering his hand to the "Islamic Republic" is absolutely shocking, and something that should anger anyone with even the faintest sense of decency.

Here again is the deceit of US politics. After Obama became President he made that whole "unclench your fist and we will extend our hand in friendship" speech to Iran, this was very widely reported and pretty much everyone knew he said that. BUT, one week before that speech he SIGNED the order for sanctions to continue for another year, this was not widely reported, most people do not know he did that, but the Iranians obviously found out.

So to summarize, A student has a conflict with a much smaller but more courageous lad (lets call him Ran) in class who refuses to be his puppy, unlike the other students. So we have our tension I resort to psychological and financial bullying, but then people compare what I am doing to this boy, to the same thing I did to another lad called Rak several years ago. So I change tack, I make loud speeches for the world to hear about wanting to become friends with this boy but at the same time I continue the financial bullying, but that I keep quiet about. Lol, is Ran supposed to be impressed?

In your enlightening parable is the "courageous" lad Ran building a bomb while publicly pledging to wipe out another student (let's call him Jacob)? That might change the dynamics our little story a bit, no?

"President Obama today called for a new relationship with Iran in a statement that marked the 30th anniversary of the takeover by Iranian militants of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran." -- from the article.

If issued in other times this could have read:

"President Obama today called for a new relationship with Saddam Hussein a year after Iraq absorbed Kuwait..."

"President Obama today called for a new relationship with North Korea after it had overrun South Korea..."

"President Obama today called for a new relationship with Japan in a statement that marked the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack..."

"President Obama today called for a new relationship with Germany a year after Germany had overrun all of Europe except Britain..."

"President Obama today called for a new relationship with the Confederacy on the anniversary of its attack on Fort Sumter in Charleston..."

"President Obama today called for a new relationship with the Bey of Algiers a year after the first capture of an American merchant ship in the Mediterranean and holding it and its crew for ransom..."

Big Pete, thats a good point. Yes, lets call him Isra. Now, Isra is good friends with the bully and in-fact is the only one who can passively dominate the bully with his constant nagging and is the only one who can be viewed as being in an equal relationship with the bully, or probably due to his location holds a few aces over the bully which no doubt he uses when needs be. etc.

Isra and the bully both have guns that they bring to the playground, the rich puppies of the bully, lets call them Rabs, do not have guns and neither does Ran. The Rab's do not seek to develop a gun because they are too thick, n despite being constantly abused n used by the bully trust in his protection. Ran, on the other hand is independent n does not want any unequal relationship, he realises that to talk as anequal he must also bring a gun to school. In the mix of this, we have Pal, who for 50 years has been suffering for the crimes committed by Naz on Jackob who is now known as Isra. Isra, has used his abuse at the hands of Naz (who is now dead) to justify his vile, and oppressive treatment of Pal. Now both Rab and Ran despise Isra, but for two different reasons. The hatred of Rab to Isra stems from pride and bigotry, while Ran despises Isra for his treatment of Pal and notes that all these playground conflicts did not exist before Isra decided to squat in Pal's land. Somehow Ran is condemned, no doubt if Ran befriend the bully he would be allowed to say similar, but toned down, things to appease his family, just like Rab. Now Ran is depicted as a bigot who hates Isra for what he is not what he does, but people fail to mention that Ran has many Jacobs in his house and does not do to them what they say he would do to Isra. Now we wait for Isra to attack Ran, and for Rab to make a choice decide if his act and intentions will finally match the clothes he wears n words he uses!!!

Very imaginative as apologetic writings go - I'm sure that the Rans and the Pals would fully approve of it. And do tell us, just how many Jacobs are there in Ran's house, anyway? And how many did there used to be, and where did all the others go and why did they leave? You're right in saying "...Ran is depicted as a bigot who hates Isra for what he is not what he does..." but you left out "...but Ran has vowed to change all this just as soon as he acquires the means to chase Isra off the small corner of the very large playground he is so arrogantly squatting on." And, BTW, Naz may have died, but his parent(s) and siblings live(s) on.

So he marks the 30th anniversary of the hostage taking by offering to normalize relations w/ Iran? Brilliant!

Maybe he could start by he & Hillary visiting Teheran, and staying at that former US Embassy. Let the demonstrators outside take care of them.

Obviously Obama didn't ask nicely enough. Better luck next time! (providing America's still there after the nuclear fallout...)
