Hasan was just doing his job, you see -- and in the course of doing that job, he contacted jihadist imam Anwar al-Awlaki. So what? What's the big deal? An Army psychiatrist has to do research, doncha know, and who understands psychiatry better than an Islamic supremacist sheikh?
Note that this was a guy who had spooked his coworkers by preaching Koranic hellfire and brimstone -- and Koranic warfare. See for yourself here. Maybe al-Awlaki helped him develop the PowerPoint.
"Hasan e-mails to cleric didn't result in inquiry," by Philip Rucker, Carrie Johnson and Ellen Nakashima for the Washington Post, November 10 (thanks to Benedict):
FORT HOOD, TEX. -- Maj. Nidal M. Hasan corresponded by e-mail late last year and this year with a radical cleric in Yemen who has criticized the United States for waging war against Muslims, but the contact did not lead to an investigation, federal law enforcement officials said Monday.Hasan, an Army psychiatrist suspected of killing 12 soldiers and a civilian here on Thursday, will be tried in military court, the officials said.
U.S. intelligence agencies intercepted 10 to 20 e-mails from Hasan to Anwar al-Aulaqi, a U.S. citizen who once was a spiritual leader, or imam, at the suburban Virginia mosque where Hasan had worshiped, said a law enforcement official who spoke about the investigation on condition of anonymity.
Aulaqi responded to Hasan at least twice, according to Rep. Peter Hoekstra (Mich.), the ranking Republican on the House intelligence committee.
"For me, the number of times that this guy tried to reach out to the imam was significant," Hoekstra said. "Al-Qaeda and radical jihadists use the Internet to spread radical jihadism. . . . So how much of [Hasan's] lashing out is a result of . . . his access to radical messages on the Internet and the ability to interact?
"I believe that the responses from Aulaqi were maybe pretty innocent," Hoekstra continued. "But the very fact that he's sent e-mail . . . to this guy and got responses would be quite a concern to me."
The FBI determined that the e-mails did not warrant an investigation, according to the law enforcement official. Investigators said Hasan's e-mails were consistent with the topic of his academic research and involved some social chatter and religious discourse....
Which shows yet again that the FBI is totally clueless about the nature and significance of "religious discourse" in this context.
If only intelligence lapses in the FBI resulting in mass murder were as career-threatening as lapses in political-correctness are.
I hope that there's been an uptick in interest for jihadwatch. You guys do magnificent work. Hugh even wrote two essays today without once using a foreign phrase!
I hope one of the victims families gets hold of this information and sues the FBI so that all the jihadi facts come to light and show what we are dealing with. There is no doubt the negligence and incompetence of our "leaders" afflicted with PC-syndrome got our good men and women killed at Ft. Hood and there will be many more unless a lawsuit from US citizens (i.e. Non-muslims) forces them to do so. Maybe they should fear American backlash via lawsuits more than they fear upsetting the whining muslim scum.
When the president of the United States, Barack H. Obama accepted rotating status as chairman of the United Nations Security Council, he committed high treason… not only a direct violation of article 1 section 9 clause 8 of the Constitution for the United States of America, which states emphatically:
“No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States; and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall without consent of Congress accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”
“If any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive, or retain any title of nobility or honour, or shall without the consent of Congress, accept and retain any present, pension, office, or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince, or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the United States, and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them.”

Obama is a traitor!
Yes, the FBI deserves to be sued for, ehm, malpractice?
They didn't even recognize that something sick was goin on, not to mention diagnose the disease nor apply proper remedies. As bad as it gets.
Islam and anything 'Islamic' deserves the intense scrutiny of a reformed FBI. CAIR and the other criminals 'fear' a backlash - sure, with good reason. A backlash against their scaremongering 'racist' slurring would destroy their power base and render them impotent - as well as out of job, as their moneymen decide they're not worth the investment.
First, however, I expect the US President to clearly identify the enemy - fundamentalist Islam - and declare that an uncompromising stand will be taken against it, profiling on base of religion and evicting any advisors (Kareem Shora of Homeland 'Security' Advisory Committee comes to mind) that are not clearly committed to America and the safety of Americans.
Which shows yet again that the FBI is totally clueless about the nature and significance of "religious discourse" in this context.
Amen...
Yet the FBI is right there to arrest AIPAC operatives who might be Mossad agents.
"Investigators said Hasan's e-mails were consistent with the topic of his academic research and involved some social chatter and religious discourse...."
ever hear of coded messages?.....
It is not beyond the possibility that the FBI was monitoring Hasan to see if he was part of a spider web within the Army. Does anyone really know when sudden Jihad syndrome will occur in a given individual?
Let us not rush to how the E-Mails were understood by the FBI in relation to the number of them over time.
Personally I do not trust this Administration and would not put it past them to discredit the FBI and tarnish the Army.
What aspect of any Agency have they touched that has not suffered as a result???
The fear of PC retribution to foment the exact actions one is trying to prevent.
"Hope and Change" is a far cry from Trust. Or the Truth for that matter.
'Social discourse'.
I wonder whether there was any talk of 'weddings'? Or of 'girls'.
Not so long ago, there was an article posted at New English Review, about a Muslim jihadist who got busted, in Canada.
Here's part of the report:
'While he was imprisoned for gun smuggling, Dirie spoke repeatedly with the alleged ringleader, and talked often about buying more guns, which they referred to using code words such as "girls," "wives" or "black chicks." '
And I recall, from a couple of years ago, when a jihad plot was busted in Germany, the code used by the plotters was discussed in an article posted here
http://www.jihadwatch.org/2007/11/take-this-dough-and-use-it-to-get-married.html
on jihadwatch.
I quote the relevant paragraphs:
'Moroccan-born Redouane al-H said that when a member of an Islamist internet community was arrested, the others told one another he was "sick."
'The codeword for explosives was "dough." He added that a "taxi driver" meant a suicide bomber and to "marry" meant dying as a martyr.'
Which shows yet again that the FBI is totally clueless about the nature and significance of "religious discourse" in this context. ~ Robert
No, I do not think the FBI is "totally clueless." I think the FBI is deliberately misleading the American public, following orders from high up in the Administration; the truth does not make Obama look good. I never thought I'd ever say this, but give me J. Edgar Hoover in a dress back in charge of the Bureau.
