The phrase "letter-writing campaigns to Rifqa publicized on blogs that malign Islam" is doubtless a reference to Pamela Geller's initiative to have Christmas cards sent to Rifqa -- but complaining about "blogs that malign Islam" sells a lot better than saying straight out, as they did before, that they're trying to seize this poor girl's Christmas cards.
Nonetheless, the initiative is just as insidious -- and, not coincidentally, in alignment with Sharia provisions calling for the isolation of female apostates from Islam. After all, this is still a marginally free country, isn't it? Why should Rifqa not be allowed to receive communications from people who have been encouraged to write to her on "blogs that malign Islam"? And remember that by "maligning Islam" in this context, what is meant is telling the truth about Islam's doctrines of violence and supremacism. But even if people writing to Rifqa really are maligning Islam, is that now illegal in the U.S.? Maligning Christianity is not illegal. Maligning Judaism is not illegal. Would Rifqa be allowed to receive letters that malign those religions? Is the person screening her mail going to hold up letters that she thinks malign Islam? On what grounds?
Pamela has trenchant and important observations on this here.
"Guardian to review Rifqa's mail: Attorneys in dependency case reach common ground on a few matters," by Meredith "Hijab" Heagney for the Columbus Dispatch, December 25 (thanks to Pamela):
Attorneys for Fathima Rifqa Bary and her parents haven't agreed on much, but they have settled a couple of small matters in the case of the 17-year-old runaway. They have agreed that all mail to Rifqa from people who aren't relatives will be reviewed by her guardian ad litem, the attorney appointed by the court to represent her interests, to "ensure that no inappropriate messages are forwarded to Ms. Bary."
They also have agreed that Rifqa cannot have any contact with Blake Lorenz, Beverly Lorenz or Brian Williams until her counselor determines whether it would be in her best interest.
The Lorenzes are pastors in Florida whom Rifqa stayed with when she ran away. Authorities have said that Williams, an evangelical in his 20s who baptized Rifqa, drove her to the Greyhound bus station in Columbus when she ran away from home in July.
Rifqa, a New Albany High School student, said she left her Northeast Side home because her father, Mohamed Bary, threatened to kill her for converting from Islam to Christianity. Mr. Bary denies the accusation, and authorities in Ohio and Florida have found that she was not in danger.
A dependency case to determine where Rifqa should live is making its way through Franklin County Juvenile Court, where the attorneys frequently file motions on minute details of Rifqa's life and activities.
For instance, Omar Tarazi, the attorney for Mr. Bary and his wife, Aysha, had asked that third-party messages to Rifqa be reviewed by Franklin County Children Services, which has custody of the girl. He was concerned about letter-writing campaigns to Rifqa publicized on blogs that malign Islam.
That resulted in the agreement to have her guardian look at them. The magistrate's order says "incoming mail" but does not specify whether that includes e-mail.
The two sides also have argued over whether Rifqa's counselor should be a woman. Rifqa's attorneys, Kort Gatterdam and Angela Lloyd, have accused the Barys of forcing Rifqa to submit to Islam by making her see a male counselor, because she was raised in a male-dominated home.
Tarazi disputed that, saying Gatterdam and Lloyd file documents "containing baseless assertions that would be characterized as nothing more than religious and cultural bigotry."...
Unlikely at best. Rifqa's attorneys have steadfastly ignored the apostasy issue -- and substantially weakened their case by doing so.
The world will know sanity when the cult known as islam is only found in the index to history books under Was-lam.

If telling the truth about something serves to "malign" it, then the thing in question must be malignant to start with.
“Blogs that Malign Islam”
Who’s the victim here? Rifqa or the parent’s religion? Hope the Judge doesn’t have their head up their cavity.
One thing's for sure: When this girl reaches 21 she sure as hell won't be living at home.
Since when has it been possible to "malign" Islam?
The people who are bending to the demands of these Muslims are far worse than the savage priests who used to throw maiden girls into wells to appease their brutal, capricious, vindictive gods. Those people didn't know any better.
What is the excuse of a 21st century attorney, counselor, or judge who use our legal system -- and theirs, whether they admit it or not -- to do essentially the same thing?
"Cowards" is too good for them.

The above video shows a new "Victory of Allah" tape from Nasrallah himself, and it shows how fired up the "Muslim Army" is.
I advise you to watch it.

21? What is the legal age when she can account for herself?
I laughed at his analogy of Israel “in the heart of the Islamic world. One bite and it is gone.” Seems Israel’s neighbours have choked on that bite more than once, each time loosing land. Faced with an existensial threat, the IDF will always win the day, especially againts iliterate, poorly trained, undisciplined and lazy Arab militia.
It is my understanding that, in Ohio, Rifka will become an "emancipated" person, an adult for legal purposes, when she turns 18. I don't know exactly when her birthday is, but according to commenters on AtlasShrugs, Rifka will be free to make her own life choices in about 7 or 8 months.
I'm happy to stand corrected. I hope she can find some means of support in a few months time.
Rifqa has described herself as a "journaler" and a "writer." I am optimistic that Rifqa will eventually write a tell-all type of account about the Islamic public relations machine's attacks against her, and that this will not be flattering for CAIR et al. I think these Islamic public relations thugs and bullies know this will probably happen eventually, which is why they've been so hell-bent from the beginning on trying to assassinate Rifqa's character in public. Those fanatics have to protect Islam's image at all costs, even if that involves engaging in tactics as desperate and perverse as attacking a frightened 17-year-old girl. Though they continue to wage an elaborate, expensive, and time-consuming campaign of psychological warfare against Rifqa, trying to disrupt her life and silence her, I believe eventually she will be telling her story, in her own words.
Her birthday is August 10, 2010. That's eight months, which is actually a pretty long time, and the court could return her to her parents and they to Sri Lanka before then. When she turns 18, it isn't a matter of her being "emancipated" but simply of her reaching the legal age of adulthood. It's going to seem like a long eight months both to her and to her supporters. Let's keep praying.
Good point Kinana. Think of the stories Rifqa will have to tell when she is finally released from solitary confinement.
What really torques me about this misinformation machine that is in full swing is that if Rifqa were living in Egypt or Iran or some other Muslim majority hell hole by the age of seventeen she would have been married with several kids by now and would have had to sacrifice her virginity to some ancient Muslim pervert by the time she was twelve. So let's stop the lies about what "little child" she is, shall we CAIR? I'm sure they believe that if they can get thier hands on her they can't wait to repay her with an execution eve gang rape so that she won't go to Muslim heaven. We'll all be watching out so that they never get the chance and won't even know what hit them the day Rifqa is released and whisked away to safety.

What's really creepy, Isabella, is that from the Muslim point of view her status as a "mere child" and also as a girl who could have been married off years ago are _compatible_. That's because they view women as chattel their whole lives long. A 12-year-old who is "old enough" to be married off to some ancient relative and impregnated by him isn't therefore regarded in their twisted minds as an adult in any sense we would recognize, because in their minds she will _never_ be an adult in any sense they would recognize. She will always be the property of some male relative. We think, "Well, they think she's old enough to be married, so why are they going on and on about how she's just a child?" But from their perspective, she'll be a child until she is a wife, and then she'll still be, in some sense, a child.
I say all this as a person who is _not_ a feminist in the American sense of the word. I'm a housewife and all in favor of being a housewife. But we have to realize what a bizarro world the world of the Muslim mind is. They'll use that "don't listen to her, she's just a child" thing as it suits them, but that wouldn't stop them from marrying her off, either. It's all of a piece. They don't think she has any right to a mind of her own now *and never will have*.
Brrrr. God protect Rifqa.
Meanwhile, it is being reported that the American-born cleric Anwar al-Awlaki gave religious sanction to last Friday's Christmas Day jihad attack. So what exactly is our "homeland security" doing to make sure that there are no other clerics like al-Awlaki in the US? Will our government be more forceful about deporting Muslim clerics that espouse Islamic supremacy and jihad and denying visas to those that come from countries notorious jihadist clerics? And what steps, if any, are being taken to assure that the traitorous al-Awlaki is not allowed to further incite and sanction violence against the country of his birth?
Virgil,
I know your questions are rhetorical and I'll attempt answers in the same regard.
Nothing.
No.
None.
Imagine being an indigenous citizen of Europe. They ask the same questions of their governments. Nothing is done to ensure their wishes and demands are met by their elected officials.
The same environment is developing in the USA.
What will happen to those representatives who mis-represent our wishes and demands?
Another rhetorical question that politicians fail to comprehend.
"The world will know sanity when the cult known as islam is only found in the index to history books under Was-lam."
Good one. I agree.
You are absolutely right, girlfriend. As a former housewife who had to get a job and support a bunch of kids after a divorce many, many years ago, the entire idea of asking some guy if it's okay for me to do that is absolutely ludicrous. And understanding Rifqa's heart, she would think the same thing. That's why she ran and that's why we have to help her to win. (And if we take the CAIR weanies down a peg or two while we're at it, all the better.)
Hi Darcy!
Rifqa is a Christian but they just won't accept that. As far as the media are concerned, she is a muslim and should remain a muslim. I cannot believe the abject stupidity of the news media and their complicity in threatening this girl's life. As far as I'm concerned, the mainstream media in the United States is beyond worthless; they are propagandists and outright liars. They are as dangerous as the muslims they are so dedicated to defending. The American people are waking up and only a few still swallow their lies and obfuscations about islam. What a mess! The politicians, pundits and media must think the American people are the dumbest jackasses in the world if they think we believe anything they write or say.
Any chance we could find out how old Aysha was when Mohammed (Bary) married her? Anyone?
If Rifqa needs positive female support whom can relate, what about Bridgette Gabriel? Does anybody know if she has commented about the situation?
As for what the FBI/Justice Dept is doing, I only wish they would go after islamic supremist half the way they went after the white supremist KKK in the 60s. Tell me again why only white people are racist?
Hello fscarn;
Thanks for introducing Was-lam. I think we will be using that moniker for a long while and hope that it will some day be a historical fact.
The parents of Rifqa amaze me. Is there no end to their cruelty?
