Everybody knows that Christianity is just as likely as Islam to inspire murderous violence in its adherents. Someday everybody will get some evidence to support this.
The point is not really about Christianity or moral equivalence at all. It is about the continued evasion and refusal to confront the doctrine and ideology behind this kind of behavior. As long as that continues, the remedies devised in the State Department and elsewhere will continue to miss the mark. "They are Taliban. They are the same people who do not want children to get an education," senior administration official Rahim Gul Khattak told AFP.
Islamist militants opposed to co-education have destroyed hundreds of schools, mostly for girls, in the northwest of the country in recent years as they wage a fierce insurgency to enforce Sharia law....
One of the big selling points of Islam to men is, as the evil genius of Muhammad well understood, that it gives complete control to them of their women. The imams, mullahs and scholars of Islam ever since have understood this, especially the more fundamentalist factions like the Taliban. Keeping women uneducated and in the house is essential for this. Hence, the blowing up of schools for girls. What a disgusting religion.
I wish, I wish, that more of these barbarian attacks would resonate with the PC crowd and the main stream media. I fear it will take one here before it does. And then of course it will be Bush's falt even if it is 20 years past.
At least the Taliban blew up the girls' school without the girls inside ... this time.

Islam is not particularly friendly to education for boys, either. Just look at the hundreds of madrassas in Pakistan which are little more than brain-washing centers where the education consists of memorizing the Koran. They may be keeping the women ignorant and in the house, but they're also keeping the men ignorant and on the farm.

I've been digging around, and found an interesting article about this Greg Mortenson. He reportedly approached village elders and asked how much a girl was worth, and was told five goats. He asked how much an educated girl was worth, and was told 10-15 goats. He got the elders to buy into his plan to build schools by an argumentum ad edacitam; he appealed to their inherent greed. He also makes the village kick in for land so they have a stake in the school, and have protected 'their' schools.

There is speculation that this is a CIA plan. I really don't know what to think. I do know how Muslims think and operate. It's possible that the village elders look at these schools as a place to store valuable ordnance. Either way, I wish our school had picked something more local to support.
