Actual condemnation of the seemingly endless highjacking of their "religion of peace"? Will the protesters make clear how these devout and pious Muslims are doing that?

How is it possible for a supposedly peaceful movement to be misinterpreted as a violent one?

Why has no-one ever misinterpreted the message of the Salvation Army - which helps those living rough on the streets - as being a violent one?

Why has no-one ever misinterpreted the message of the Red Cross - which helps innocent victims of conflicts worldwide - as being a violent one?

The only way that a movement can be interpreted as a violent one is if it preaches a violent message. That is why some Muslims believe that it is incumbent upon them to kill in the name of their religion.

Islam preaches violence therefore some of its followers are violent. It's simple really.

Who are they kidding? Dearborne just happens to be near Detroit and has the highest concentration of Muslims per capita in the USA. So some Muslims get fearful that some of their brethern are a bit too zealous and may take out local Muslims. That's the extent of disagreement in the Muslim "ummmah"--whether its lawful or not to kill other Muslims by "collateral damage" while killing non-Muslims. This "protest" is merely being done "by way of precaution," that this incident should not wise us all up.

After 9/11, reporters showed the celebrations of joy in Palestine. When word reached the Palestinian authorities about this being shown to the world, they quickly put up a show for the press, where people who could hardly keep a straight face, hold candles and tried to look sadden.
They know how to play the media. Now they could say, 'Islam is peace and we proved it', while fully supporting jihad among themselves.

The question that should be asked is this:

It's great that if they are sincere and truly want to stand for peace BUT when it's all about defending the reputation of Islam and they stand in the way of us recognizing and addressing the issue of so called "radical" Islam they do the world no favours. How about specifically condemning Muslims who commit violent acts because it is wrong, speaking out against their fellow Muslims who endorse Islamic domination of the world, protesting the abysmal treatment of Christians and women by Islamic governments, and helping our authorities stop Islamic violence before it happens? Their efforts to redefine Islam opposite to the form that millions of Muslims around the world believe in and practice are irrelevant to our physical protection as well as the preservation of our freedoms.

Many of the Commenters on the Detroit Free Press do not believe that "islam stands for peace."

They have waited far too long to be allowed to get away with a dog-and-pony show about "peaceful" Islam.

A counter-demonstration is called for, and specific questions need to be asked such as, what took them so long? They must be challenged to specifically refute -- not "explain" away as "misunderstood" because, you know, you have to read it in Arabic or any other such b.s. -- the jihadist verses. It must be demanded that they renounce all intent to bring Sharia to the United States of America.

And it should be quietly emphasized that they are very, very fortunate that this attack was unsuccessful, and that if they wish to be recognized as Americans they need to start being more concerned with preventing attacks on other Americans than with the "injustice" of profiling.

Because actions speak louder than words, and the volume is steadily rising.

He praises very highly ("MIKE FAWAZ: YOUR VIEWS ARE ENGAGING AND VALID. I HOPE PEOPLE ARE READING THEM.") the following comment:

Mike Fawaz: "Majed Moughneyeh should take a look at the Dearborn courts where the vast majority of the offenders are either Afro-Americans or Arabs. As if only these two groups have a criminal jean that other races do not have. The constant harassment of our youth by the Dearborn Police frustrates our youth and pushes them towards resenting authority no matter the source. A class action law suit should be considered. It's interesting reading the few comments. None of them use a quranic or ahadith basis for their claim that Islam is peace. They just seem convinced that good people are peaceful and loving, and since they themselves are peaceful and loving, and Muslim as well, then Islam must be that also.

I actually find that to be the most prevalent thinking of "why" Islam "means peace". It's just simply that most decent people can't imagine themselves involved with something so morally degenerate, and the values that they pick up from Western civilization have been ascribed to Islam...."loving" "good" "peaceful".

Where does "loving" appear again?

This lawyer even goes so far as to paraphrase Matthew 7:16 (KJV) "By their fruits shall ye know them.", stating: "We must build our character, develop our family and our local community, as a model and example for all to see and benefit from! Then, and only then, can we be confident that our social responsibility is under fulfilment. It is a quote from Shaykh Khalid Yasin, a black nationalist-type Muslim early on...more traditional Muslim lately, who also instructs "We must believe, in fact, we must know, without any doubt, that the ascendancy of Islam is imminent and Divinely mandated. It will happen, and it must happen, in spite of the doubting, lazy, cowardly, and deviant Muslims, and the wicked, conniving, corrupt, and rebellious non-Muslims." He goes on, quoting an ahadith from Imam Nawawi (#36): "Whosoever conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in this world and the Hereafter. Allah will aid a servant (of His) so long as the servant aids his brother."

This is the crux of why Muslims wouldn't typically protest, and why Robert's posts are just full of families and friends who hide and obscure the crimes of other Muslims. They're instructed (allegedly) by the Prophet not to offer them up, but to hide them, and make excuses for them.

Only their non-Muslim sensibilities, that they pick up culturally and socially give them any moral compass in this regard. They certainly don't get it from the Quran or the ahadith or sunnah.

Now he isn't a Muslim because he does evil, that what they are saying. I'll bet his version of Islam can be supported in the texts, and yours cannot, my Dearborn friends.

Like most Jihadwatch readers, I am not in the least impressed by these latest noises about a possible attempt at an Islamic public relations exercise.

Winocerous cites a revealing hadith, one that is also cited in Bukhari and Muslim. Islamic law also puts restrictions on what Muslims can say about each other, to the point that Muslims are not even allowed to say something (including a true statement) that annoys another Muslim. (Saying something that annoys a Muslim is considered slander). Only criticism of un-Islamic actions and words, such as with the intention of commanding the right and forbidding the wrong, is considered permissible. With restrictions like these, one can see partly why Muslims tend to direct most of their criticism outward, against non-Muslims.

I'm guessing the event will either (a) fizzle out completely, a dud, or (b) will become a platform for all manner of berzerk Jew-hating and calls for Islamic World Domination(tm), ie, it will be 'hijacked' by 'extremists.' (As is the usual excuse.) Can I get a witness? Will somebody mark my words?

I will give 10:1 odds that it will be either of the above, versus the slim 10% chance that it will be a positive, overwhelmingly-well-attended thorough and (especially) Qu'ranically-grounded rejection and total renunciation of terrorism AND (here's the kicker) Islamic supremacy.

Upon re-reading the last paragraph of my impromptu challenge, I raise the odds to 100:1, or only a 1% chance that the above definition of success will be met.

My thoughts EXACTLY.

What they REALLY are WORRIED about is NOT "Not in Islam's Name",BUT "NOT OVER DEARBORN".

It would be a good start if this were on the level. If the followers of Islam really just want to worship the way they wish without forcing their values down the neck of Christians, Hindus, Buddhist or Jews I would love to see it.
Openly rejecting the passages in the Koran that call them to slay the non-believers wherever they are found and openly rejecting the persecution and murder of apostates would certainly go a long way in improving credibility.
The deafening silence from the moderates over the years could be attributed to two things in my estimation: 1)Fear of reprisal. Noteworthy as no one wants their families or friends injured and silence may protect them for a while but if Islam is about compassion and love for fellow man as is so often preached then silence makes them hypocrites and complicit in the violence.
2)The use of murder as a tool for political power. Jihad gives this to Islam. It puts Islam in a position to negotiate and dictate policy for millions of Muslims around the world. Sharia law is not advanced because of its beauty and justice. It advances because western states are afraid of the consequences of rejecting it.

I bet you can count on your hand the number of muslims that will attend the rally to show their opposition against Jihadist terrorism. CAIR will probably be there taking photos of those who do participate.

I really do not care for such protests, there are many people who go to a protest who have a different message than the organizers and so conflicting messages are sent to the public. I do not defend Islam via protests , proof is in the pudding. I am a tolerant, well educated, and empathetic Muslim who treats people with respect and I judge people on an individual basis. What also disturbs me is the fact that many people who have posted say that extremists are out to kill "infidels". Extremists are out to kill anyone they can they just need an excuse to do it. They kill other Muslims for not following their views and quite frankly anyone capable of killing innocent human beings is, simply put, evil. Islam is about monotheism , submission to god, belief in the messages sent to our prophets Moses, Jesus, and Mohamed peace be upon them. Many Muslims, most likely a higher number than in Europe and here in the U.S. combined, die at the hands of such "Muslim" extremists. So extremism in any form effects all of mankind. They are called extremists for a reason, they have a twisted and extreme view on all matters of life. Stereotyping any group is pathetic there are extremists in every religion. Look to history and boy is it filled with violent acts in the name of politics, religion, tribal affiliation etc. At the end of the day I say judge each person based on their actions. This website is filled with many racist and extreme views...what HYPOCRISY! Also, many of the versus or hadiths are taken completely out of context. Mankind is at war with extremists and racists whether they be, "Muslims" "Jews" "Christians" "Skin heads" "Socialists" etc., from all over the world.
