Egyptian court upholds 4-year sentence for blogger for criticizing Islam

These are the kinds of laws that the Organization of the Islamic Conference is working to bring to the West. "Egypt court upholds 4-year sentence for blogger," from Reuters, December 22:

CAIRO (Reuters) - An Egyptian court confirmed the four-year jail sentence imposed on an Egyptian student blogger for posting writings critical of Islam and the government, the state news agency MENA said.

Blogger Abdel Kareem Nabil Suleiman, then 22, was arrested in 2006 and charged with publishing opinions aimed at disturbing public order, insulting the head of state and defaming Islam. He was expelled from al-Azhar University, Egypt's most prestigious seat of Islamic learning.

Suleiman will spend only one year in jail as he has already spent three years in detention since his arrest....

Love that concept of freedom of speech that the Islamic world is so well known for. Really, ALL ideologies which are insecure in the assessment of the cosmos they put forward as a verity for all time cannot do otherwise but persecute and prosecute the skeptic. But skepticism, like humor, is what redeems the human race. Islam has NEVER comprehended what David Hume observed more than two centuries ago and that is that the only true Christian is a skeptic. Where are the skeptics in the Islamic world? No, not the excuse makers. The skeptics.

4 years in prison for the crime of free speech.... enough said.

I'm surprised that they didn't cut off his fingers and cut out his tongue. But I guess that will happen by Islamic vigilantes once he's finally released from prison.

David Hume observed more than two centuries ago and that is that the only true Christian is a skeptic.

True, many Christians start as skeptics of philosophical materialism. At any rate, a person of conscience would change his worldview if it were irrefutably proven false, since objective truth trumps preference for such people. Islamic thugocracies don't allow for freedom of conscience, so a person born in a place like Egypt, who concludes that Islam is untrue, must either go through the motions or risk incarceration or worse. My heart goes out to this young man.

They come on now.. you're all forgetting that these Islamic countries are representatives of the human rights council! Therefore this must be humane and perfectly okay. :)

What a croc. Can Egypt be banned? Yup, a perfect precedent setting case to build on for Net-Nazis. The only thing they're missing is cash rewards for free expression bounty hunters. Come to al-azhar U, uh leave your brain at the door.

When the OIC and its supporters say that free speech much be "responsible" and know its "limits", this is what they mean will happen if you don't "responsibly" respect the "limits" Islam intends to push on all of us. At best.

It would be good if there was an organization which would give money to these cyber-freedom fighters. The young man's life would be greatly improved if he had $10,000 waiting for him when he got out of prison. With this money, he likely could get out of that Islamic hell hole and find freedom in the West to criticize the government and Islam to his hearts content.

"He was expelled from al-Azhar University, Egypt's most prestigious seat of Islamic learning."

Not that prestigious. Getting expelled from there would be a godsend and not from Allah thankfully.

Indeed. The simple truth is that Muslims are afraid of the simple truth. Though of course they would claim otherwise and the opposite. Some Muslims will never admit and except the obvious fact that Muhammad was a mad man and his religion an utter fraud at bottom.

I’m sure the OIC would love and approve of my website. I had the chance to sit down with my computer buddy this past weekend and update the site. The ‘recent articles’ section is fairly decent. Check it out if you’d like. http://www.considerationsofacanadianex-muslim.org

"...charged with publishing opinions aimed at disturbing public order, insulting the head of state and defaming Islam."

so much for telling the truth is Muslimland....

All committed Muslims are fakes and liars.

They are allowed to lie and are afraid to question and criticize Islam.

Nice job. It took me a while to just skim through it. There is a lot to read.

I like the FAQs, and the article "The Good Muslims".

I would send anyone who is looking for a good overview to your site.

You work hard.

Excellent website Saleem.

Outrageous sentence! In Britain he would only have had to live under police protection for 5-10 years to protect him from fellow muslims. A non-muslim would have been kicked out of university for hate speech.

Think I am kidding? Last month a High School teacher with a 35 year unblemished record was reported to the school authorities by a Pakistani girl for offending her and islam. Her offense was to automatically say "Bless you" when the girl (a newly arrived immigrant) sneezed. The teacher only avoided being sent on a cultural awareness course because she was within weeks of retiring.

I've just read your website from beginning to end and I just want to add my voice to those others who have congratulated you for your clear-sightedness and courage. It's one thing for non-Muslims to speak out against the repellant nihilism of Islamic doctrine but quite another for an ex-Muslim to do so, and this is what makes the voice of apostates so important. Your voice, and the words of other apostates you quote are the most crucial, truthful and telling voices in the struggle to free humanity from the scourge of Islam - all the more so because of the danger you accept as part of the principled stand you've taken.

It's hard to express the admiration I and many others feel for men and women like you. Great scholars have analysed Islam, philosophers and religious leaders, politicians and intellectuals have condemned its teachings as barbarous and inhuman, yet of all those voices, yours is the most important, because you have been there, inside Islam. And yet you had the intelligence to see through the indoctrination and perceive the stark, disturbing truth behind the lies. In having the strength of character to speak out as you do, even at the risk of alienation from your former community, you add profound courage to your other virtues. People like you give so much hope to so many of us.

To all J.W readers I say, go and read this man's website and you will find your darkest fears confirmed, Islam really does imperil the world, but there is hope because men like Saleem exist and refuse to be silent.

Saleem, may you go from strength to strength in your work and in doing so advance our shared struggle to bring a better future not just to beautiful Canada, but also to all mankind everywhere.

If this is true, the school administrator(s) should all be fired. I am a retired high school math teacher and if I worked under an administration that attempted to discipline me for saying "Bless You"... I would let them. The next day I would file a law suit against the school district. Maybe with some strong media coverage this PC bull s#@& will stop.

I am afraid you would get nowhere with that in Britain.

The teacher in question posted her story in the comment column of a National newspaper shortly after she retired and it was never followed up.

To show how bad things are 3 years ago a child of 10 was dragged into Court for calling a muslim child a "Paki". The Judge asked, "Have the police got nothing better to do than bring children to court for this sort of thing?" For this he got his a""" kicked.

Naturally a leading politician and most liberals supported the prosecution. Details,

It is a shock that he did not receive the death penalty for criticizing Islam.

Being critical of Islam can be the same as someone who leaves Islam.

Muhammed himself had his followers murdered for criticizing Islam and him.
Ishaq:482 "One of the favors which Allah conferred upon his Prophet was that these two tribes of the Ansar, the Aws and the Khazraj, used to vie with one another like stallions to carry out the will of Muhammad. The Aws did not do anything which benefited him without the Khazraj saying, 'By Allah they will not gain superiority over us in Islam in the eyes of the Messenger by doing this.' And they would not cease until they had done something similar. Thus when the Aws killed Ka'b Ashraf on account of his hostility to Muhammad, the Khazraj conferred to find a man comparable to Ka'b in hostility and called to mind Sallam Huqayq in Khaybar. They asked the Prophet for permission to kill him, and it was granted."
Tabari VIII:179
Ishaq:550 "Among those who Muhammad ordered killed was Abdallah bin Khatal. The Messenger ordered him to be slain because while he was a Muslim, Muhammad had sent him to collect the zakat tax with an Ansar and a slave of his.... His girls used to sing a satire about Muhammad so the Prophet ordered that they should be killed along with Abdullah. He was killed by Sa'id and Abu Barzah. The two shared in his blood. One of the singing girls was killed quickly but the other fled. So Umar caused his horse to trample the one who fled, killing her."

So much for freedom of speech in Islam.

"Blessed are the idiots, for even they can be forgiven."
