Finland: Albanian Muslim kills five people in mall shooting spree

Shkupoli.jpg Opposing jihad is racism

Of course, we know that all Albanian Muslims are modern, moderate and secular, and so this guy doubtless had some other motive. And maybe he did. But it must be admitted that there is an unusually high correlation between Islamic faith and people who just seem to "snap" and commit random acts of violence. "Finland Mall Rampage: Gunman's Body Found," from SkyNews, December 31:

Police have found the body of a gunman who killed five people in a city near the Finnish capital of Helsinki.

Ibrahim Shkupolli shot dead three men and a woman at a shopping centre in Espoo.

Officers also found the body of a woman in a nearby flat.

It is understood she was the 43-year-old killer's partner and worked at the Sello centre.

Police could not say whether she was killed before or after the gun rampage.

Officers later found the gunman's body.

Shkupolli had a criminal record for firearms offences and was thought to have used a 9mm handgun in the attacks.

Emergency services were called to the mall after shots were heard soon after 10am local time.

Reports said a lone gunman dressed in black had walked through the mall randomly firing at shoppers....

Islam causes "mental illness" as sure as smoking causes cancer.

Not sure this is Jihad related. Could be.

We should be careful so as not weaken the cause.

There are an unfortunate number of real jihad cases to highlight, this might be typical man goes crazy, kills girlfriend of which there are plenty of non-Muslim examples.

Maybe where a normal (unislamic) crazy guy snaps and kills from passion, he kills his wife and/or kith and kin. Point is: he kills the "offending party."

The muhammadan has a higher likelihood of taking out his homicidal rage on innocent infidels.

Think

That's a fact, Jack.

Talovic was a Bosnian moslem "refugee". He too bit the hand of the good Christian people of Salt lake who helped his family settle there. Oh, and he got a HEROES' funeral back in Bosnia, which was PAID for by the good Christian folks in Salt Lake.

Oh, yea and the media tried to blame the Serbians. Notice the media says this Albanian from Kosovo had a Serbian passport.

Of course, we can expect Finland's dhimmi elites to try to fool everyone into thinking, again, that mahoundianism means peace, and that this shooting spree has nothing to do with mahound's sick cult... But, well, since everyone sees mahoundians committing such atrocities every day, all over the world, this nonsense is getting indeed to a point where the usual CAIR (or Mahoundian-Council-of-Britain)-approved PC-MC nonsensical explanations for the violence committed in the name of mahound's imaginary alter-ego allah will fool no one except supporters and fans of nazi/fascist appeasers like George Galloway, Mads Mengele Gilbert, Jean Ziegler, Yvonne Ridley, Daniel Con-Bandit and other such icons of the dhimmi left.

Note, too, that the journalists try to blame 1) availability of guns in Finland, and 2) schools. No mention at all is made about a man named "Ibrahim" being Muslim. And while it is true that any "personal jihad" aspect remains to be proved, the media should at least mention the man is MUSLIM.

Hey... I think that we must be very careful not to succumb to some paranoia. I do participate in the fears of Robert (and all others) about Islamic extremism (and Islam's nature itself as well) but... everyone who takes the gun and shoots does not make it because he is a muslim. There have been so many other unbalanced people that had acted in such ways. And... of course the only problem the world has is not Muslims. Believing to such a thing could guide us in another kind madness. And... there are enough madnesses in this world to confront.

Albanians had very strict tribal and social codes, far before Islam's appearing in their lands. They had this so horrorful vendetta rules which had damaged gravely their own community in their history. Surely they are not an 'easy' people but... this does not mean that they are always the faulty ones in their dealings with others and the ones who must be blamed in all cases.

Albanians' Islam is really moderate not because their approach to them is a civilized one but because their being indifferent, somehow, to religion in general. They have a good taste of how religion may be a manipulating device, from their very history, beside.

I have seen in some critical to Islam places even calling the people as the Serbian Mladic a 'tragic hero'... No, no... this is slipping towards being the other side of the same coing. Such mentalities makes us look as the ones we criticize. Beware...

"Opposing jihad is racism" - from photo, above

Really? Well, call me a racist, then. I couldn't care less. Because - JIHAD SUCKS. JIHAD IS EVIL. GET IT?

I'm on the side of Tokyobk and Dendrite. I've also read a half-dozen versions of this story. They're all about the same and none of them mention Ibrahim Shkupolli's religion or any connection to Islam.

Let's not have JihadWatch become a bunch of nod-bots. Think before you speak. You'd look really silly if this POS turned out to be a Christian.

"Let's not have JihadWatch become a bunch of nod-bots."

YOU are the "nod-bot." "Ibrahim" is a Muslim name.

Darcy,

Thanks for your input. It is my personal considered opinion that Shkupolli's rampage seemed to fit the usual pattern of Muslim amokings, but as well, since similar things have been done by others, and since I had not encountered any definite verification of his religion, it seemed prejudicial to call this an "Instant Jihad."

In all else I read, only Robert's headline above made an Islamic assertion that was not detailed in the referred story. Robert owes at least an explanation as to where he got his information.

I am not interested in starting a fight with you over what seems to be a simple difference of viewpoint or degree of dedication against an ongoing usurpation of Western Civilization. My only concern was to seek the truth to more effectively channel our energies into a battle which may not be over even by the end of this century.

When a Muslim's life goes sour, Islam is there to redirect his rage from himself to non-Muslims, giving him a moral sanction to commit any atrocity against them. This murderer is likely a Muslim based on his nationality and name, and that's worth mentioning, as Robery has. But let's say he isn't a Muslim, that doesn't change Islam or its Jihad, it merely makes those who are interested in exonerating Islam feel better.

I'm with Jockaira and others who caution against reaching conclusions that are not (at least, not yet) adequately supported by the evidence. The report Robert cites does not identify the killer as a Muslim.

As more of the evidence comes out, we'll get a better idea of the extent of the Islamic connection here.

That said, at this point, I believe it is highly probable that Ibrahim was a Muslim, not only based on his previous nationality, but the fact that he has a cousin named "Islam" (I'm guessing that "Islam" is an Islamic name), as reported on the CTV news site. In addition, the early reports are often making an effort to downplay or withhold his ethnicity and emphasize the generic domestic violence angle...classic signs that the accused is a Muslim.

If he is a Muslim, the next step will be determine whether Islamic beliefs played a role in this crime.

darcy, "Ibrahim" may be an Arabic name, but remember Raymond Ibrahim, who has contributed articles here at Jihad Watch?

On the other hand,

"The report Robert cites does not identify the killer as a Muslim."

Most reports in the news about various types of violent Muslim sociopaths fail to mention the M or the I word in their reports; so, the fact that the report does not identify the killer as a Muslim means, as the saying goes, diddly.

Yes, Hesp I certainly do remember the excellent Raymond Ibrahim.

However, his is a surname. I don't think a non-Moslem would have "Ibrahim" as a first name.

And, yes you are right about the media failing to call a Muslim a Muslim. I don't think I've heard that once concerning the world's most recent Islamic Jihadist, the "Nigerian."

I agree with a lot of what Robert Spencer says, but posts like this are ridiculous. Here's the deal, 1 out of every 4 people in the world are born into the Muslim faith. So when you see crimes done in the world, there is a good chance 1/4 or 1/5 of them will be done by someone that is a Muslim.

Now, if this man had done what he did in the name of his religion that is fine because you are calling a spade a spade. But you don't know if this man was religious - in fact, most Albanians are lukewarm in faith.

This was a bad man who did a horrible thing - but nothing in the article ties him to Islam other than the fact his hertiage. If I took every person born into the Christian faith with a Christian name that robbed a bank, or did something horrible and linked them to their religion it would not be fair - AND NEITHER IS THIS. Fail .

Jockaira -

I'll reserve judgment and comment on this situation because I don't know if the guy was a Muslim or not. But in response to your comment:

"You'd look really silly if this POS turned out to be a Christian."

Followers of Jesus don't go shooting people up for no reason.

I don't know much about this man in particular. Has he been attending a mosque? Has he gone to any terrorist training camps? Where's the homework for JihadWatch in this case? Don't get me wrong, I love me my JihadWatch, but I don't believe this one fits the bill.

I've known a lot of Albanian muslims in this lifetime. Most, if not all, know NOTHING about the quran. They can't read it and can't be bothered to understand the religion they're "born" into. Albanians are a jealous, possessive, blood-feuding, pull-out-a gun-for-anything race, muslim or Christian(yes, there are some left out there).

This was violent, but personal.

That the killer is probably a Muslim is not in dispute. I don't believe that there is sufficient evidence at this point to report, as fact, that he is a Muslim. Secondly, without evidence indicating Islamic contributing factors in this case, there does not seem to be justification for this story being posted on JihadWatch at this point in time. In a couple of days, with more police reports, we'll probably have a better idea of what's what.

"I didn't say this was a jihad attack. It may have been, it may not have been."

LOL...yeah, I just felt like posting this because the guy has a muslim name (im not saying islam has anything to with it BUT)..I posted it on my site jihadwatch like I post about the weather or the latest nba trade rumours.

once again, im not saying Islam has anything to do with this (even though the guy is a Muslim and acting according to Shariah, hadith, koran and taqqiya/kitman), its just how I roll.

"If I took every person born into the Christian faith with a Christian name that robbed a bank, or did something horrible and linked them to their religion it would not be fair"

Newsflash - Christianity does not approve of "robbing a bank" or "doing something horrible" - Jesus does not approve of these, including mass-murder. Ever heard of the Ten Commandments? Therefore, Christianity has no "link" to your "Christian faith" fallacy, at all.

Islam, however, does not have the Ten Commandments, and DOES mandate mass-murder of "Infidels." That's called "Jihad." Such as this:

"Kill non-Muslims wherever you find them. Lie in wait and ambush them, seize and capture them using every stratagem of war." - Qur'an 9:5

That's from "allah." Jesus never says anything like that.

In addition, Mohamet was a thief - he robbed caravans, stole their booty, and killed the driver. So, since Muslims revere their false prophet Warlord as "the perfect man" who can do no wrong, "robbing" must be OK in their book, as well as the aforementioned "allah-approved" mass-murder of non-Moslems.

In short, dearie - YOU fail. Concerning mass-murder, the actions of Muslims CAN be linked to their ideology, Islam. It's called "Islamic Jihad."

Christians? Nope. Not at all. Jesus doesn't mandate murder in the New Testament. Christianity doesn't have a Jihad doctrine.

Do you get the colossal difference between the two, now?

Ya know. About that EgyptianAir pilot. Right after 9/11, I got to thinking about it. And it seemed to me that probably Al-Queda had gotten to him. He had gone and bought presents for his relatives and yet crashes the plane into the ocean. I think that some terrorist group contacted him at some earlier point and told him to expect a call. When they finally called, because of all those military officers on board, they gave him an ultimatum and told him to crash the plane or his family would be annihilated. Sounds too 007ish? Yes. But highly plausible.

'I didn't say this was a jihad attack. It may have been, it may not have been.

I said he was a Muslim. His name is "Ibrahim." This is the Arabic form of the name "Abraham." An Albanian is not likely to have an Arabic name unless he is a Muslim.'

Robert, my friend, so do we find and list every crime a muslim does because of his simple humane sinfulness here? I think that here we have a very specific cause: To be alert against the spread of a very concrete totalitarian ideology. I am underlining this because it is not so difficult to slip to a collectivist distorting worldview, where everywere we see an 'Albanian' we will be 'on guard' against him. Let remind here that mother Teresa was an Albanian too. And... the murderer's surname too... Shkupoli, it is the same with an Italian Catholic mystic's: Lorenzo Shkupoli (maybe of South Italian Albanian origin)who has written a spiritual text named 'spiritual warfare' and which is translated somehow from saint Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain to Greek as 'the unseen warfare' becoming a spiritual classic in Greek Ortodox environment for some times... :-)

We do not forget that Chechen's also become so radical and violent because of the many sins of the so called 'Christians' against them. Anna Polikovskaya's case is very enlightening as to such sins.

I do believe that first we have to reclaim our own Christian identities in a sincere way, we have to act as real Christians so that we may be reliable in our criticisms... Wishes for a blessed year for you and all your family and... for all friends here...

1 in 5 of the worlds population may be Muslim but Muslims make up at least 99% of the worlds terrorists and carry out the same percentage of the worlds terrorist atrocities, at least 90% of the worlds murders and probably 80% of the other crimes on the planet. Don't forget that Muslims make up aropund 10% of the French population but 70% of its prison population. Why is that? It is because in France, Muslims are over 20 times more likely to be criminals as the native French population. Around 70% of the Scandinavian rapes are carried out by Muslims. That is over-representation on a grand scale. So less of the moral equivalence.

Mother Teresa wasn't a Muslim.

My wife saw this story on Korean TV yesterday. Then, I tried to find it in Drudge and nothing turned up. Then, opening Jihad Watch gave me the whole story. Way to go, Robert. BTW, I live just north of SLC where that other fruitcake shot up Trolley Square before he was stopped by an off-duty Ogden PD officer with a concealed carry permit. Hopefully, the Finns will encourage more people to carry.

Dear Darcy, be in rest, I do know well that mother Teresa was a Catholic nun :-) Her lay name was Agnes Bojatziou and her origin was somewhere from today's Tetovo in Slavic Macedonia. The thing I tried to explain was just that anyone who happened to born in a Muslim family and did a crime did not it because of a Jihadist aim. Just so. The reason I did mention mother Teresa was for reminding that ethnic identity has not to be confused with the religious one. Saying 'Albanian' does not mean saying 'Muslim'. And of course any Muslim by family who engages even in a war does it not necessarily because of a religious faith. It may be purely because of national reasons. As it happened in the case of Kosovo for example. There have been many people, especially between those belonging to Eastern Orthodox creed, that wanted to characterize it as a religion aimed one but it was simply a lie for finding support from the 'Christian' Europe (I too belong to the Eastern Orthodox creed but I want to be very cautious regarding my sincerity before God, avoiding any sectarian traps).

Seeing things without their nuances as they were purely black and white and slipping to oversimplifications is a sign of a totalitarian approach, even if it is in a very "innocent", mental only level. I wanted to point out, in a quite constructive way, this so important detail. Nothing else... The reason I insist to mention those things here is because I do believe in Robert's good intentions. Otherwise I would not give even a penny to what he says.

Sewsalot,

here is a good clip of the Bosnian Muslim you mention:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXIY5UUoye8

I remember at the time the press, or what passes for it, were implying at first that this guy was a Serb because of his Slavic last name, however the truth could not be suppressed for long. That he was NOT Bosnian Serb, he was Bosnian Muslim.

Here is a quote from 2 months ago from that video posted by a Bosnia Muslim, "Anyways the way i see it the kid probably just wanted to pay america back for not helping us out in the war to just stop it in the beggining."

"And i do know this i have the same feeling but its over with and i cant change the past no matter what i did."

Here is another "moderate" European Muslim that blames his American host for his problems. It isn't our fault Bosnian Muslims elected an Islamosupremacist who advocated a Caliphate, and was associated with the Bosnian Nazi's in WW2 who helped exterminate 600,000 Serbians when they elected Izetbegovic. Their goal in Islamic Bosnia was to create an Islamic entity where Serbs would be considered as second class citizens, so Bosnian Serbs declared their own independence (Republika Srpska). Since Bosnian Muslims would elect a man who would create an Islamic hierarchy Serbs rightly assumed there would be no freedom for non-Muslims in a Bosnia dominated by their Islamic neighbors. Lessons we can all take heed of for sure.

My answer to Channe would be to consider this quote, "And i do know this i have the same feeling but its over with and i cant change the past no matter what i did.", from a "moderate" Bosnian Muslim that wants to randomly kill non-Muslims for a perceived grievance. In my opinion it would be unwise to dismiss his possible self identification as a Muslim with a grievance against oppressors. Islam prescribes violence as a way to deal with "oppressors". Muslims will always find ways to justify their violent tendencies will Islamic doctrine related to the "oppressors". It is a theme we see over and over, Muslims will saw your head off with a rusty bread knife ... defenseless, and tied up, claiming you are oppressing them.

On a different but not irrelevant tack:

"Shkupolli arrived in Finland in 1992, the Interior Ministry said. He applied for Finnish citizenship but was rejected due to his criminal past, which included assault, traffic violations and an arrest in 2003 for carrying an unlicensed gun." (from an AP report)

And Europeans are dying for more cultural enrichment.

This photo reminds me of Robert De Niro in "Taxi Driver".
