Flight 253 jihadist was nicknamed "Islamic scholar"

And his father warned the U.S. about him. Also, who paid for the $4 million apartment he lived in? And why was he nicknamed "Islamic scholar" when he was so obviously a Misunderstander of the Religion of Peace™?

"Father of Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, Nigerian terror suspect in Flight 253 attack, warned U.S.," by Samuel Goldsmith for the New York Daily News, December 26 (thanks to Kamala):

The terror suspect who tried to blow up a Detroit-bound plane is the son of a Nigerian banker who alerted U.S. authorities to his "extreme religious views" months ago, it was reported Saturday.

The father, Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, a former minister and chairman of First Bank in Nigeria, is shocked that his son was even was allowed to fly to the U.S., family members told the Nigerian newspaper This Day.

The dad was meeting with security officials to discuss his son, identified as Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab, 23.

The younger Mutallab was not on any no-fly list when he flew from Nigeria to Detroit through Amsterdam, Rep. Pete King (R-L.I.) told the Daily News....

The suspect boarded the Airbus 330 - carrying 278 passengers and 11 crew members - in Amsterdam after arriving on a flight from Lagos.

He told authorities he got the explosives in Yemen and received orders from Al Qaeda operatives to detonate the device on a plane over U.S. soil, officials said.

He is an engineering student at the University College in London. His last-known address near the school is a $4 million apartment in Central London. Police were searching there Saturday morning.

This Day reported that the suspect has been known for extremist religious views since high school at the British International School in Lome, Togo.

"At the secondary school, he was known for preaching about Islam to his schoolmates and he was popularly called 'Alfa,' a local coinage for Islamic scholar," This Day reported.

Hey, let's cheer this story. For years, Robert has been asking Muslims to cooperate with authorities to expose radical Islamists in their midst. It appears that the father of this terrorist did just that.

So let's applaud the Muslims that stood up to the hijacking of their religion, even as we condemn the dhimmis in charge of US security that dropped the ball.

Sure, radical muslims come from poverty./

If he father tried to warn people via e-mail, then no wonder he was ignored. Who's going to read an e-mail from a "a former minister and chairman of First Bank in Nigeria"?

It's a scam!

I just posted on a related thread. This fool was so stupid its not funny. I am still holding to my theory. You can be going to all of the right schools and come from the best family. I applaud his father for what he did. Now it looks like PC has again dropped the ball when some important intelligence came forward.

Back to what i was saying. Because of the mind clamp of Islam the most cleaver, intelligent and creative follower is light-years behind anything the Christian based free world has to offer. For one, their morals are based in the seventh century. They motive is pure selfishness, but it is cloaked in us against them. Believer vs infidel.

So I say again. This follower of allah is brain dead from the beginning. And there is no hope until Islam is rejected by him.

So we are seeing a repeat of many of the same themes we saw with the case of Major Nidal Malik (and others before that) in which US authorities had advanced warnings about the Muslim jihadist but refused to do anything about. So just as Major Hasan was allowed to stay in the military, Abdul Mutallab was given a visa to enter the US. It is almost as if our political elites want to see Americans killed.

Who shared this 4,000,000.00 flat?.....you can wager he was not living there alone...

To borrow a tag from The Opinionator, You Can't Make This Stuff Up!!!

Wait on verification of this one, but it's reported online that Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab's incredible poverty and political connections may have also afforded him an interpreter at the airport to explain his lack of passport.

"I was on this flight today and am thankful to be alive. My wife and I were returning from an African safari and had this connecting flight through Amsterdam. I sat in row 27, which was 7 rows behind the terrorist. I got to see the whole thing take place and it was very scary. Thanks to a few quick acting people I am still alive today. For those of you talking about airline security in this thread, I was next to the terrorist when he checked in at the Amsterdam airport early on Christmas. My wife and I were playing cards directly in front of the check in counter. This is what I saw (and I relayed this to the FBI when we were held in customs):

An Indian man in a nicely dressed suit around age 50 approached the check in counter with the terrorist and said "This man needs to get on this flight and he has no passport." The two of them were an odd pair as the terrorist is a short, black man that looked like he was very poor and looks around age 17(Although I think he is 23 he doesn't look it). It did not cross my mind that they were terrorists, only that the two looked weird together. The ticket taker said "you can't board without a passport". The Indian man then replied, "He is from Sudan, we do this all the time". I can only take from this to mean that it is difficult to get passports from Sudan and this was some sort of sympathy ploy. The ticket taker then said "You will have to talk to my manager", and sent the two down a hallway. I never saw the Indian man again as he wasn't on the flight. It was also weird that the terrorist never said a word in this exchange. Anyway, somehow, the terrorist still made it onto the plane. I am not sure if it was a bribe or just sympathy from the security manager.

One passenger says that the terrorist’s pants were “on fire,” which corroborates the reports of severe burns he suffered. However, the next passenger interviewed reported that the terrorist was calm, not in shock at all. In other terrorist attacks, such as in Mumbai and Afghanistan, the terrorists got themselves so high on drugs that they were unable to feel pain. It sounds as if that may have been the case here, because anyone who had those kinds of burns — by some report, third-degree burns — would not be sitting calmly unless heavily medicated.

******
Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab did not say a word at the airport, nor as his incendiary device burned through his lap on the plane. If the first linked report is corroborated, who assisted Farouk at the airport in Amsterdam?

something fishy here:
How does one get a visa without a passport? I'm not the most experienced traveller, but the couple of times I needed a visa, it was affixed to my passport.

It sounds like it's time for a new nickname; instead of the 'Islamic scholar' he can now be remembered for eternity as the 'crotch bomber'. Perhaps then he will not be as proud of what he attempted to do.

In about two weeks this will be forgotten or reinterpreted as a taqqiya operation by the father who wanted to deceive the naive infidels.

12 Hours later, the CBC was still whitewashing what was already news everywhere else in its’ PC koolaid. Shame on you CBC, but here, you’re par for the course.

Good on you JW and the commenting community for spreading the truth and the links, and for continuing to shine that most inconvenient light - the truth - on the actions carried out by another follower of the ROP.

He was supposed to do it 'any time over U.S. soil but seems to have finally gotten the nerve at the last possible moment before landing. Come to think of it, a terrorist could time his bomb for a suburban smash-up a few minutes before landing and inflict a lot of ground casualties.

There is a MAJOR QUESTION to be asked:

What is the significance of Jihadists TARGETING "Metro Detroit" of all places ,the ARAB/MUSLIM "CAPITOL" of North America,Home of Dearborn(istan) and on the U.S.- Canadian Border?

Choi: "and on the U.S.- Canadian Border?" Maybe the Jihadis, like a lot of other people outside North America, can't understand that Canada is a whole other country. When I taught in Taiwan alongside a number of colleagues from the Great White North, students asked how we told people from the USA and Canadians apart. I replied that you looked at the passport. The students weren't amused.

Further, I also applaud the shmoe's father. Being a father myself, though, I kind of feel the shame and shock he must be feeling.

As for how the bozo got a visa, I suspect he presented some kind of passport and evidence of his family's connections (and 4 million dollar apartment), and thus convinced some junior visa officer that he wasn't going to jump ship and work in a Macdonald's.

If this is true that someone got on the plane without a passport with the full knowledge of the Northwest Airlines staff then this is an outage and the Airline must be severely punished for this.

this regulation was brought in recently
"Airlines could be fined $27,500 per passenger for each violation of the three-hour limit."

what about a negligence leading to a terrorist attack?

Robert Spencer has emphasized—entirely accurately—that many Muslims are loath to notify Infidel authorities about Jihad plots—and that the root of this is either sympathy with the Jihadist's goals, or an antipathy to placing Infidels in a position of power vis-a-vis *any* Muslim, no matter how good the cause—and how troubling this is.

This does not mean—nor has Spencer ever claimed—that no Muslims have *ever* cooperated with non-Muslim authorities, or that no Muslim has ever placed the safety of victims—even non-Muslims—above the desire of Jihadists to harm them.

From what I have heard, Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab's father seems entirely sincere in his concern over his son's actions, and was entirely sincere in trying to warn officials—even non-Muslim officials—of his son's actions.

This man is to be applauded, and many posters here have done just that.

I wish that this man's principled actions were the norm in the Muslim world, yet clearly they are not–and no amount of facile sarcasm on your part will change this disturbing fact.

Yes, why don't you go pout in the corner and weep over the toilet bowl? Your self-pity routine really does get quite old, as do your other stale antics. If you really hate this place so much, why do you return to it like a drunk to his booze?

You are dealing with a barking dog, which tendentious trolls usually are. The comments and responses are mechanically predictable in virtually all situations. If you want a dated analogy, you could look at the rank and file Marxists of yore. What was the "Party's" current line on this situation? Once it was determined by the leadership, it would be droned out robotically by everyone, from top to bottom with only very slight variations.

Good point Robert but you know he was called a Religious Scholar of the 'Peaceful' Religion of Islam because it is not truly a 'Peaceful' Religion. He understood and took seriously the infidel passages in the book.He was a believer. The denial worldwide of Muslim terrorism amongst the Muslims themselves is what prevents them from policing themselves. It took years now but Muslim's have begun to respond to terrorism finally and it has been denial or blame for countering it as its cause.Personally,I believe it's all tied now to the Islamic Republic.Of course, that's not really a Republic either, much like everything nowdays,a Lie...
