Well, it's that time of the year again, my friends: nominations are hereby open for the notorious and hotly coveted Jihad Watch annual awards!
There will be, as always, four awards. First, the ones few people want but all too many people deserve:
1. American Dhimmi of the Year 2009.
2. Dhimmi Internationale of the Year 2009.
These should, of course, be awarded to those who behaved during the year 2009 in the most spineless, shameless, abject, and/or suicidally, self-servingly stupid ways in the face of Islamic supremacist bullying and intimidation, peaceful and/or violent.
Then we will honor two heroes:
3. American Anti-Dhimmi of the Year 2009.
4. Anti-Dhimmi Internationale of the Year 2009.
Take a trip down memory lane. Scroll through the archives here going back to January 2009. Relive the good old days. And you'll find many, many worthy candidates for both honor and dishonor. There are many worthies from earlier in the year who could be forgotten.

The awards will be given at the lavish annual Jihad Watch banquet later this month or in January. I hope that this year we will be able to get another primo cartoon from the world's premier anti-jihad caricaturist, David Washburn, commemorating the awards banquet.

Mr Friedman's words - 'This is the United States of America and we'll do whatever the F we want' - are vintage New York Attitude; and the polar opposite of anything that could be described as dhimmitude.
New York jihadwatchers should visit the bar/ restaurant if now open, and attempt to ascertain whether Mr Friedman and his partner April Bloomfield are maintaining and intend to maintain this highly commendable Attitude.
If they are their premises would be the ideal venue for New York jihadwatchers and any out-of-towners who could make it, to hold a *real-life* celebration in honor of the recipients of the two Anti-Dhimmi awards.

For those who don't remember, this is the Florida journalist who helped CAIR in their "smear Rifqa" campaign.
If there was a category for groups, I'd nominate the people of Switzerland for anti-dhimmi and the government of Switzerland for dhimmi.
I posted several months ago, when Peanut Jim was doing his latest Israel-bashing, that his efforts to win the American Dhimmi of the Year award again would be to no avail, since BHO had already locked it up. Looks like I was right.
I would nominate, for Anti-Dhimmi Internationale, the Russian Orthodox priest Fr Daniel Sysoyev (dec.) who has just been murdered by Muslims in Moscow, because he was 1. insulting Islam by intelligently analysing and criticising it in two popular books and in clips on youtube, and 2. openly and persistently evangelising Muslims in Moscow, thereby showing his courageous refusal to obey the rule that forbids dhimmis from preaching their faith to Muslims.
I think honorable mention, in the international anti-dhimmi category, or perhaps in a separate runner-up 'signs of fight' category, should go to Australian politician Fred Nile of the NSW state parliament, for publicly stating the obvious in the wake of Fort Hood - that Muslims in the military of free-world non-Islamic nations represent a very real danger.
"There is an argument for suggesting that the safety and morale of our troops may warrant a ban on dedicated Muslims joining the armed forces, who may be influenced by Islamic fundamentalism".
For anti-Dhimmi Internationale, I'd like to nominate Canada's ambassador to the UN, who didn't want to have anything to do with the OIC's "blasphemy" resolution, iirc. I think his name is John McNee.

Jason Kenney, Canadian Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, for his newly released (Nov. 2009) study guide for immigrants, Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship.
In a section called "Equality of Women and Men," the booklet informs immigrants that “barbaric” cultural practices (it actually uses that word) such as spousal abuse, forced marriage, genital mutilation, and honor killing are against the law and severely punishable in Canada.
No more pleading ignorance, at least in one fed-up country. All free nations could learn from Kenney’s forthright approach.

Since some of the more obvious suggestions have been thrown out, I've selected a few that are perhaps less likely to win if selected as nominees, but which strike me as valid nonetheless:
American Dhimmi - General George Casey, for his horrific response to the Fort Hood jihadist attack against our brave soldiers. He said, "What happened at Fort Hood was a tragedy, but I believe it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here." This was around the time that ample evidence was being ignored, and jihad ruled out, largely under his direction (being Army Chief of Staff).
International Dhimmi - Bibi Netanyahu, for his tireless effort to destroy Israel to placate the international community, including its Islamic members. His first go around, he offered the Wye Accords to strip Israeli citizens of their land and create a new Jihadist Palestinian state. He seems just as inclined at present, placing a freeze on settlements and generally backing policies that strengthen the hand of the various Muslim Brotherhood-linked and Iranian-funded proxy groups that seek Israel's destruction. To say nothing of the cowardly way he is dealing with Iran (talk is cheap) and Turkey (which Debka confirms is getting dangerously close with Iran).
----Alternate international Dhimmi - Dieudonné M'bala M'bala, the anti-semitic French entertainer who for years has been seen demonstrating with Islamists, denying the Holocaust, and spreading anti-Israel lies. He just recently acknowledged that the Iranians pay him to do this.

Obama gets both categories because of his Afgan speech at West Point and his bowing to the prince in Sandi. These are just tow of the most recent and galling examples of hundreds of examples he has done.
Oh, did I mention he lies like a rug like all followers of Islam do regularly. Everything that comes out of his mouth is based upon his political position over any concern about the well being of the country he has sworn to defend.
I really would like to see brave apostates (cult escapees and defectors) like Darwish, Sultan, Ali, and (Rifqa) Bary get more recognition. But they don't seem to fit technically in the existing categories (dhimmis and anti-dhimmis are non-Muslims from the start--to my way of thinking at least), and so these apostates will almost always lose out in the polling. I suggest a new category of award -- the Counter-Dawa Witness award, or some such, for them.

I listened to his West Point speech tonight, and was wondering how long it would take him to assure us that Islam is a religion of peace and is being hijacked by extremist misunderstanders of this great religion, or words to that effect. It didn't take long - almost the first words out of his mouth. It was interesting to observe the audience response to this as the camera panned over the steely faces of the cadets and professional soldiers.

I watched his performance on a Swiss TV debate on the ban on minarets, and he just slammed the pro-mahound camp masterly and mercilessly, citing evidence to make his case of how islamization was a path of self-destruction for Switzerland: from Erdogan's bayonets to the mahoundian ghettos of the Netherlands, Londonistan, Brussels, Paris and Antwerp (without forgetting to mention all the trouble stemming from the creation of those areas, no-go zones for police or non-mahoundians in formerly open-minded and tolerant societies.) While the pro-mahound camp only babbled away that "the Swiss constitution guarantees freedom of religion", he continuously made the point of telling how banning minarets wouldn't affect that right at all, while warning everyone that allowing mahoundianism to change Switzerland would eventually destroy it as it has destroyed other European (now Eurabian) nations.
Freysinger clearly did his homework to present his case to the public for a ban on minarets, and he and his fellow SVP colleagues are not the kind of people that would be shut up by political correctness or by any clowns working for the UN, Amnesty International or the OIC.
American dhimmi of the year:
Barack Hussein Obama. For pretty much everything he does, but the Cairo Speech was way out of the ordinary. Given his position, what he does is of immense importance.
BTW, he'll be in Copenhagen for a few photo-ops in the early days of the UN climate summit (gosh, am I tired of this new climate-driven regime!), then proceed to Oslo, Norway to pick up his Nobel prize for things he'll never be able to do.

OK, I second that nomination, he's the one. What happened in Switzerland is immensely important, and will show very clearly if a singular country can be permitted to rule themselves, or if everything needs to be tromped down by clueless international organisations. Even before the vote, my experience at OSCE was that merely by holding the referendum (which I didn't expect to pass back then) was really rattling the Islamists there and their grab for undeserved political power.
Oskar Freysinger managed to get the issue launched into the media big way, and took home the vote in the most convincing manner possible.

Even in spite of a clear court victory for Wilders, his government - in another fit of totalitarianism - still states that Wilders coming to the UK is a Bad Idea. Who do these people think they are - the Politbureau of the USSR?
Further, even in face of bitter defeat, he refuses to hold fresh elections (which would certainly cost him his job), and he fought feverishly to remain in office long enough for the dangerous Lisbon Treaty to come into force. While fighting off his inevitable eventual election defeat, he manages to do great harm to Formerly Great Britain and further dismantle the sovereignty and coherence of what used to be a beacon of freedom in the world.
Henrik, if you can understand Schweitzer Deutsch (I can't, but that's my wife's native language), I hope you've seen the Nov 6th (or was it 7th) edition of SF1's debate program Arena, on the Tagesschau website. With my wife's help to understand the points discussed on the show, that's exactly what made me think of Freysinger as my choice for International anti-dhimmi. He was certainly cut from the same cloth as Geert Wilders.
Well, I'll leave the nominations to others, but I may have a few thoughts on the menu, wardrobe requirements, and decorations for the awards banquet:
Wardrobe:
For the anti-dhimmis:
If the winner is female and feels comfortable with the suggestion, she should wear any low-cut designer evening gown with as much skin showing as she can stand. She should sit next to any muslim male (or dhimmi, if no muslims are present) in the room and be armed with either pepper spray or a taser to be eagerly used at the first hint of a lingering glance or suggestive comment.
If the winner is male, he should wear the most elaborate liturgical clothing and accessories as he can manage. For example, if Jewish, he should wear the skull cap, the prayer shawl, and all the other things like those little boxes attached to the forehead and so on. If Christian, he should wear a HUGE Crucifix or Cross, a minister's robe and/or priest's collar, and should carry a MONSTER Bible.
For the dhimmis:
Both genders should wear a bhurka made of circus tent material that is big enough to completely cover a full-grown elephant. Of course, there should be an eye-hole the size of a pea and the sleeves should be sewn shut.
Menu:
For the anti-dhimmis:
There should be a wide selection of Israeli wines, and fine exotic coffees. Plus the entrées should be a superlative selection of “haram” foods, either because of ingredients or preparation, or both.
For the dhimmis:
Water laced with “date-rape” drugs. . . Oh, come on, they need to get used to that type of thing if their behavior yields the result they seem to be wanting. Not that I advocate them being attacked, just so they loose track of what is happening then they should be moved to a nearby, unfamiliar location and immediately released.
For the food, prepare a typical meal that a dirt-poor Jew or Christian might have to eat if they live in a muslim country like Saudi Arabia or Egypt.
The decoration should be garishly patriotic for America and the country of the international anti-dhimmi, with emphasis on democratic and historically rich non-muslim culture.
Darcy: I couldn't find the "goal-oriented" quote in his speech. The closest I could find (bad enough, methinks) was:

Why has nobody mentioned Pope Benedict, entered his name into 'nomination', and added the usual insulting, gratuitous idiocies to attack him? He is the head of Western Civilization. Let's see some of the things the Supreme Pontiff said in 2009:

By the way, yesterday I read on the Swiss World Radio website that Cristoph Blocher, also from the SVP, is going to spearhead more popular initiatives both aimed at stopping the islamization of Switzerland and promoting respect for women's rights. Given that quite a few Swiss women have complained in the past about a supposedly not-so-woman-friendly side of the SVP, I guess such a development is also great news. Compare that with Swiss FM Micheline Calmy-Rey's self-proclaimed support for women's rights while, at the same time, she is one of Switzerland's biggest enthusiasts of islamic misogynistic multiculturalism.

It looks as though Barack Obama has a virtual—well deserved!—lock on American Dhimmi of the year.
Pamela Geller for American anti-Dhimmi of the year—her indefatigable work, especially on behalf of female victims of Muslim violence, is stellar. First, her efforts to found a memorial for honor-killing victim Aqsa Pervez, murdered because she would not wear the hijab. Then, her ongoing work to save the life of apostate from Islam Rifqa Bary.
I would also like to nominate Rifqa Bary herself. There has been some discussion as to whether she qualifies as an "anti-Dhimmi"—but I believe, as a *former* Muslim, that she does indeed qualify. Also, to see such courage in such a young girl—not even eighteen years old!—is deeply heartening.
Geert Wilders for International Anti-Dhimmi—although I am glad—for obvious reason—to see that he has so much competition this year.
There are so many "worthy" candidates for International Dhimmi that I simply can't narrow them down...but the nomination of Barack Obama—as the "post-American" president—certainly has its merits!
