Sunni-Shi'ite Jihad Update. "Pakistan: Riots erupt in Karachi after deadly bomb attack," from AdnKronos International, December 28:
Karachi, 28 Dec. (AKI) - By Syed Saleem Shahzad - Riots erupted in the Pakistani port city of Karachi on Monday when a suicide attack killed at least 20 people and injured another 60 during a Shia Muslim procession to mark the Ashura festival. It was the third and largest attack on a Shia congregation in Pakistan in the past three days.
Hundreds of people had been part of the procession at the time of the bomb attack.
Immediately after the explosion, marchers turned their anger on security forces and emergency workers.
Pakistan's security forces had been on high alert as Shia Muslims marked the holy month of Muharram or Ashura.
Shia Muslims began firing shots in the air and closed shops late Sunday when a bomb was planted near a small mourning procession in the centre of the southern city of Karachi, which is the largest industrial and the financial centre of the country.
Thousands of Shia faithful expressed their rage across the city after the latest attack on the largest mourning procession as it travelled on the city's main artery, M.A. Jinnah Road, towards the largest Shia mourning centre, Husainya Iraniya.
Some started firing weapons in the air and set a market alight on the southern side of the city.
The market appeared to have been targeted because it belongs to Pashtun traders who are often branded as Taliban.
There were fears late in the day that the riots would spread across the city as young people took to the streets.
The attack on the mourning processions in Karachi began on Saturday when a bomb was planted in a car at the central district of the city.
On Sunday eight people were killed when a suicide bomber attacked a Shia march in Pakistan-administered Kashmir....
One lot of muslims are cutting themselves on the streets
Another lot of muslims bombs them
Everyone goes crazy , setting fire to a market and
turning on people who come to help
How civilised !
I am sure the cultural relativist are on location, taking notes.
They want this to take place in New York, Seattle, London, Paris, Berlin, Rome to prove that we are no different.
"Riots erupted in the Pakistani port city of Karachi on Monday when a suicide attack killed at least 20 people and injured another 60 during a Shia Muslim procession to mark the Ashura festival."
Just some Muslims showing other Muslims the love of Islam...Islam...feel the love?...
Ashura is the festival of mourning where Shia Muslims mourn the death of Husayn Ibn Ali, a gradnson of Muhammad and the Imam of Shia who was killed by a despotic tyrant 1300 years ago.
Are these people going to go apeshit everytime one of Muhammad's beloved is killed? If so we have to develop protective deflector shields similar to the ones in Star Trek ASAP or we infidels are all doomed living alongside Muslims.
I don't believe in Islam and I have hated the ideology since I was a teenager and this display of unrighteous idiocy further reinforces my beliefs. Islam must be eliminated from the face of the earth.
Islam is a plague and humankind needs an anti-virus to cure us of it.
On another note, the bomber of Flight 253, Umaru Abdul Mutallab, in his writings online is being declared as "psychologically unwell"...a victim of lonliness and unsure of whether he wanted to be a Liberal-minded dope or an Islamic martyr.
Here's another case for Dr. Phil to attemp to explain away on CNN!
Don't worry guys. The moderates will ensure everything is okay.
the pak was supposed to be 'pure islam', seems it is following in the right direction.
Greetings in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God that taketh away the sins of the world.
Has anyone given thought to why so many mohammedans are easily given to violence? It seems the slightest perceived threat sends them into paradoxyms of rage.
I'm thinking perhaps the rigidity of the perverse system that they follow restricts them excessively and so many normal human emotions are pent up over months and years, that when they blow, they go absolutely insane.
Just thinking...
That's just mahoundianism following its natural course, isn't it? Azzam al-Tamimi's insanity, brought to our attention a few days ago by Hugh Fitzgerald's essay on the issue, should be something for Europeans to truly look at, and think about it.
When the suit-wearing inbred bedouin savage al-Tamimi says that "if Europeans learn about mahoundianism, they would embrace it, because it would 'liberate them from their lives of stupidity'", words like "Al-Tamimi acknowledges the Islamisation of Europe as the goal, but tells everyone what a splendid goal it is, the cure for everything that ails Europe. Just think: if the Europeans accept Islam, their countries, too, can look like Libya, or Algeria, or Saudi Arabia, or Iraq, or the Sudan, or Iran, or Pakistan. And there would be no more of this getting up in the morning and going to work and then coming home after work." make even more sense.
Yeah, why would anyone want to live a life of "stupidity", getting up early in the morning to go to work and be a productive member of a society where there is skeptical inquiry, economic development, intellectual and cultural richness, such as Copenhagen, Zurich, Bern, Munich, Berlin, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, when mahoundianism can give them the "splendor" and "glory" of, say, Tripoli, Cairo (and let's not forget that ancient Egypt's treasures have NOTHING to do with mahoundianism), Algiers, Khartoum, Kabul, Basra, Dhaka, or Karachi? Nevermind that the "splendor" and "glory" of those places might be buried under piles of rubble from their usual peaceful suicide bombings, or the mountains of garbage derived from that timeless mahoundian habit of littering more often than they breathe, or both. A bit of shoveling, or hiding their heads under all that trash, might help them not see the hard truth about such wonders of Dar al-mahoundianism.

Stand fast in the liberty, I've given a lot of thought why many mohammedans are easily given to violence.
One simple answer: IN-BREEDING. Marrying their first cousins to keep it in the family. Some have been know of having sex with their brothers and sisters.
Result: Mental deformity, psychopaths, maniacs, murderers
Anything that stirs the Sunni-Shia pot is fine by me. How can such a riot be initiated during the Hajj???
As noted before, how I miss the good old days of the Iran-Iraq war....
Hmmm, you are right, that is also in the equation that makes up the "best of people."
Yea! I don't know which side to cheer for.
If there was an attack on an Ashoura procession, how could you tell? The bloody participants already look like victims of an attack.

It sure makes one appreciate Posada, Chinese New Year, and the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
I think it's time to revisit the archives again. Treasures old and new, and all that.

for the benefit of those who have joined us only recently, and may not yet have had time to explore the archives, is a vintage Hugh Fitzgerald posting, first presented in July 2007, on the subject of Pakistan.
Don't be misled by the deceptively downbeat indirection with which it begins. Imbibe it slowly, let it linger on the palate, and then feel the kick.
'I recently picked up at a book sale a copy of "The Miscellany," edited by P. Lal, and published in Calcutta. Issue #51 (June 1972), one of three devoted to the then recently-deceased, at age 41, of David McCutchion.
'An Englishman, David McCutchion was a lover of India, not of the william-dalrympish sort, that is the kind who loves the luxe of the Moghul court and its love intrigues, nor the kind of Englishman (also william-dalrympish) of the walking-across-half-a-continent-when-young sort, making use of local color of the human interest kind, often grizzled or wizened or wizenedly grizzled picturesque Muslims, to do the work for him (downmarket Byrons and Newbys, not to menton the now-unfashionable, because bookish, traveller Gide in "Le Retour du Tchad"), but a true scholar, an Indophile who studied brick temples in Bengal, and Indian writing, was a friend of Satyajit Ray and all sorts of interesting people in Calcutta who never get the attention in the West that all those anti-Western islamisant arundhati-roys manage to get.
' I read through The Miscellany #52 – and discovered a tribute from the Sanskrit (and Buddhism) scholar Richard Gombrich (son of E. H.), who opened his essay, titled “His Work Is Unrepeatable,” with this: “The recent death of Mr. David McCutchion in Calcutta at the age of 41 is a catastrophe for oriental studies.”
'Gombrich describes McCutchion as a scholar who “devoted all his time, his money, and his exceptional energy and enthusiasm, to the study of arts and monuments which are fast disappearing. He tramped all over Bengal, both West and East, taking notes and photographs; his knowledge of the countryside was famous.
"A self-taught photographer, he spared no pains to take the perfect shot; and he leaves well over ten thousand colour slides and as many black and white photographs of high professional quality…..His greatest specialities were Bengali temple architecture and terra-cotta sculpture, the latter a lost skill of whose monuments little is known to the wider world; he also studied and collected Bengali scroll paintings. He explored many other parts of India too, and recorded even Gupta temples previously unknown.”
'And a little more, taken from a website:
' “David McCutchion (1930-1972), English-born scholar, Indophile and early critic of Raja Rao, was an authentic pioneer: in his short lifetime...made a major contribution to the study of Bengali temples...one of the first scholars to write on the now much commented subject of Indian Writing in English....
"Born in Coventry, David attended that city's King Henry VIII Grammar School. He made it to Cambridge University the hard way, on intellectual merit alone. He read Modern Languages (French and German) at Jesus College. After graduating in 1953, he taught English for two years in southern France.
"He went to India in 1957. He worked there first as an English teacher...and later, as Professor and then Reader in Comparative Literature at Jadavpur University, Calcutta.... David's ground-breaking study of Bengali brick temples, The Temples of Bankura District, was published by Writers Workshop in 1972.”
' David McCutchion lived through the war made by West Pakistan (now Pakistan) on East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, in 1970-71, a war in which Muslim fanatics in East Pakistan, locally called razakars, joined forces with the raping and murdering army of West Pakistan, accepting the argument that what was good for Pakistan – that is, staying one country – was necessarily good for Islam, and what was good for Islam was all that mattered.
'Here is how, in a letter from England to a friend, McCutchion described the behavior of Pakistan:
“…We are raising funds {for those in what was then East Pakistan being murdered by the army of West Pakistan and its local, fervently Muslim East Pakistani collaborators], and hope to see the Minister of Overseas Development.
"What do I think of it all? Appalling…Pakistan should never have existed – it has cost more lives than the whole of the British Empire in 200 years.
"What should I think of a culture that burns down the British Council library in Lahore because an English publisher printed a picture of Mahomet?
"Fanaticism plus Machiavellianism plus brutality equals Islamic Pakistan.”
'One More Time:
'"What do I think of it all? Appalling...Pakistan should never have existed -- it has cost more lives than the whole of the British Empire in 200 years. What should I think of a culture that burns down the British Council library in Lahore because an English publisher printed a picture of Mahomet?
"Fanaticism plus Machiavellianism plus brutality equals Islamic Pakistan."
'Print out that last bit, and put it on your refrigerator, under the title: Pakistan.'
