Islamic Tolerance Alert: Already left homeless by a Muslim rampage in August that saw eight Christians burned alive, the remaining Christians of Gojra cannot celebrate Christmas without looking over their shoulders. GOJRA, Pakistan - No Christmas decorations brighten the tent camp sheltering Christians left homeless by the worst violence against minorities in Pakistan this year. Instead, there is a pervasive sense of fear.
The Christians have received cell phone text messages warning them to expect a "special Christmas present," they say, and are terrified of their tents being torched or their church services being bombed.
"Last year I celebrated Christmas full of joy," said Irfan Masih, cradling his young son among the canvas shelters and open ditches of the camp. But now "the fear that we may again be attacked is in our hearts.
"They are threatening us, (saying) 'We will again attack you and will not let you out of homes, we will burn you inside this time,'" he said.
It was the fires that most traumatized Gojra's Christian Colony, a neighborhood in the heart of this Punjabi city about 220 miles (354 kilometers) southwest of Islamabad. In early August, hundreds of Muslims rampaged through the dirt streets, looting and torching homes as panicked residents tried to flee and thick black smoke rose into the air.
Eight Christians died -- seven of them from one family trapped in a burning home.
"We are going to celebrate Christmas in sorrow because the whole family is hurt by this," said Almas Hameed, whose father was shot dead during the riots. His wife, two of his children and members of his brother's family all burned to death.
The attack, which officials said was incited by a banned radical Islamist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, followed rumors that Christians had torn pages of a Quran, an act considered sacrilegious by Muslims. The ensuing carnage drew condemnation from the Pope and Pakistan's prime minister, and highlighted how religious extremism has left the country's minority groups increasingly vulnerable.
Christians -- Protestants and Catholics among them -- make up less than 5 percent of Muslim-majority Pakistan's 175 million people.
Christians say more than 100 homes were burned and looted in Gojra and the nearby village of Korian. While many homes have been rebuilt using state money, dozens of families are still living in tents, waiting for construction on their houses to finish.
Both those who have moved back into their homes and the ones still in the camp say they are still regularly threatened -- phone calls telling them to stop pressing for those responsible to be convicted, or else; armed men turning up at their homes; text messages on their cell phones promising a "special Christmas present;" rocks thrown at the tents in the night.
"When we sleep at night the fear never leaves our heart," said Safia Riaz, a 30-year-old whose father died of a heart attack during the riots. The violence "has stuck in our minds. Tension remains -- God forbid that it will happen again."
Strict security was being put into place during Christmas, said police officer Mohammed Tahir of the Faisalabad regional police headquarters, who rejected claims that authorities were unable to protect the minority.
Security has been ramped up across the country anyway, as this year Christmas falls during the Islamic month of Muharram, which is often marred by bombings and fighting between Pakistan's Sunni Muslims and its Shiite minority.
But Gojra's Christians have little faith in the police, who were accused of standing by during the worst of August's violence.
"The police already didn't save us before," said Ashar Faras, a 33-year-old who works as a chef in an Islamabad guesthouse....

Sipah-e-Sahaba has, in the past, specialized in attacks on Shi'a professionals and institutions. I hadn't realized -- but of course it makes sense -- that this Uber-Sunni group would also have Christians in its sights.
I imagine that Pakistan is wracked with waves of Christian vandalism and arson, and mass rapes of Moslem girls by Christian "youth", and beatings of Moslem schoolboys and elderly men by similar "youth"; and that Pakistani cities all have "no-go" Christian zones where Pakistani police fear to enter.
What? You say that isn't happening? Tell me another one! In Europe, similarly-sized Moslem minorities do all of that; so surely the Christian minority in Pakistan does the same.
What difference could there possibly be to explain any difference in minority behavior? Hmm, let me think . . . . Ah, I know; the Christians in Pakistan must be the rich elite, while the Moslems in Europe are poor and oppressed. Yeah, that must be it. Yeah.

Yes, these petty miserable Muslims recognize or respect nothing that is not part of Islam. They can't even leave people to their own holidays.
They can't even, as so many different people of various walks of life, embrace Christmas for the spirit of sharing it has represented, even before Jesus was born, before it got its current name.
Winter is a source of hardship, shortage and premature death for people in colder climes. Always has been, up until the last century, with modern transportation, farming, and preservation practices, where food from anywhere can be shipped to anywhere, any time.
The winter solstice signals the start of winter. Yes, the snow has already come - but the worst of winter is still ahead. However, it also means that the days are going to get gradually longer, and eventually the sun will be able to start heating the earth up again. So, winter soltice celebrations were not just about the sun coming back (symbolised by some by putting candles and bright trinkets in evergreen trees) but also about helping your friends, family and neighbours who might have less than you in during the winter months - so gifts would be passed around, as a sort of informal redistribution of goods sort of thing; cahrity, a helping had to each other.
The Christian holiday melded well with this idea. Constantine was, of course, a member of the cult of Sol Invictus, the Invincible Sun. So of course the time of the rebirth of the Sun was important to him. The Romans also already had an end-of-year party called Saturnalia, which coincided with the solstice (Saturn, of course, being the Roman version of the Greek Chronos, or "Father Time"). As Constantine was more sympathetic to monotheists - especially ones willing to accomodate - than his predecessors, Christ-mass was set to the same time of year (even though it's likely Jesus was born in the spring; even in the Middle East, it's too cold to be sitting out with a bunch of stupid sheep at this time of year.)
There is gift-giving in the Nativity story; it also celebrates the birth of a man known for his message of peace and brotherhood.
This is how the holiday (and the Christian religion) was adopted relatively peacefully by so many to whom it was introduced - and why we still have "pagan elements" to the holiday, such as decorated trees, and Yule logs, and large feasts.
It is stupid to deny Christmas, both in its general practices, and it's name. It doesn't matter how you view it, or your reasons for observing it, just that you do, in some way, acknowledge what it MEANS, and what it has always meant, even apart from the Christian significance of it. A non-Christian can embrace is just as easily as a Christian. As for taking away the name to a bland "happy holidays", well, holidays (holy days) need names just like anything else. What's wrong with the name Christmas? It's recognized culturally pretty much everywhere. And the name pretty much sums it up, as "a time of peace, joy, and sharing".
Nothing wrong with Santa, either, O Christians - after all, he started out as the very real and quite Christian St Nicholas, who gave without asking anything in return - which is what the present-day mythological Santa does, or represents. Think of him as the "Spirit of Giving" (meaning an actual spirit-being that represents some concept or quality, as a pagan or animist might put it - so you have a pagan/animistic concept that embodies a very Christian ideal.) All these elements fit very nicely together, I think, and I see no problem with their synthesis.
Yes, it's overcommercialized now, but business will latch on to and exploit anything to make a bigger buck.

one organisation you could check out, is the UK-based 'Barnabas Fund' (founded by Canon Patrick Sookhdeo who is, incidentally, an apostate from Islam, and whose family background is from Pakistan via S America).
They provide practical physical help and also political advocacy for persecuted Christians, primarily within the Islamic world but also in other places such as N Korea and the nasty dictatorships of Myanmar and Zimbabwe.

Your math is incorrect. One percent of the US population is approximately 3.1 million, not 30 million. Even CAIR (our zombie trolls) would like to tell us differently, I would put the zombie populace at 3 +/- .5 million.

Yes—but it was "hundreds of Muslims" who rampaged through the town, burning homes and killing Christians—not just members of the "radical Islamist" group.
Sipah-e-Sahaba are also known as "the Army of the Friends of the Prophet"—probably better translated of "the Army of the Companions of the Prophet", shows that these persecutors of Christians consider themselves the most devout of Muslims, comparable to Muhammed's "companions".
And why not? Who, after all, was harsher to the unbelievers than "the Prophet" Muhammed?
