Thai jihadis ring in the new year with...more jihad terror

For a jihadist, nothing says "Happy New Year" like a few drive-by shootings! "Six killed in new attacks in Thai south: police," from AFP, December 31 (thanks to Maxwell):

PATTANI, Thailand -- Suspected Islamist militants killed two soldiers and four civilians in drive-by shootings in the latest violence to rock Thailand's insurgency-hit south, police said Thursday.

More than 4,000 people have been killed and thousands more wounded since a separatist rebellion erupted nearly six years ago in Thailand's troubled provinces bordering Malaysia.

Two members of the rangers security force and a Buddhist civilian were killed Thursday in a drive-by shooting in Narathiwat province by suspected insurgents who also took the troops' assault rifles, police said.

Gunmen on motorbikes shot dead a 42-year-old villager as he drove home in neighbouring Pattani province, also on Thursday, said police.

On Wednesday, motorbike-riding attackers killed a 49-year-old assistant to a village chief in Pattani at a local tea shop, police said.

An hour later a district chief aged 45 was shot dead by gunmen in a pick-up truck while he was driving home from a meeting in Pattani. The shooting also injured two villagers....

Happy New Year to Robert, Hugh, Marisol and all you Jihad Watchers!

Happy New Year 2 All!

New year, same old Islam, we're into 2010 and it remains as backward, primitive and barbaric as ever.

Notice that the full AFP story closes by blaming the Buddhists for starting the whole thing by annexing the former "Muslim sultanate" in 1902. Yup, these murders by Muslims are all the Buddhists' faults!

I've bolded all the typical journalistic terms in the article that serve to obfuscate the crucial, central and primary factor here, Islam. (The first term "Islamist" is a faint nod in the direction of rationality, but the "ist" ending is calculated to telegraph between the lines that Islam without the "ist" ending -- i.e., mainstream Islam itself -- is not the problem here)

Here I have an issue with the word "insurgency". As in:

... the latest violence to rock Thailand's insurgency-hit south ...

We'll leave off the issue of the anonymizing effect of the passive voice, which has gotten plenty of attention in these pages.

From Merriam-Webster:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/insurgent

===================================
insurgent

Main Entry: 1in·sur·gent
Etymology: Latin insurgent-, insurgens, present participle of insurgere to rise up, from in- + surgere to rise — more at surge
Date: 1765

1 : a person who revolts against civil authority or an established government; especially : a rebel not recognized as a belligerent
2 : one who acts contrary to the policies and decisions of one's own political party
===================================

This term implies:
a) Native rebellion
b) A minority, or at least less powerful party rebelling against the authority of a greater or more powerful party.

But these jihadddi groups are something quite different.

They are agents, indeed branches of enormous imperialist foreign powers. And while there will certainly be native elements among their numbers, is is generally a mix of native and foreign elements forming the spearhead of a foreign imperialist thrust into and against the country in question -- and without question, a movement with foreign loyalties and sympathies against the nation in question.

The use of the word insurgency in this context is false and deeply misleading.

almost everyone understands "Jihad" much better than they did only a few short years ago....Islam is spreading the word...

Your etiological assessment of the word "insurgency" is right on the mark, not that what passes for a journalist most anywhere today will take note of it. Words mean things and modern journalism has been very sloppy with words, as it has been with the truth. Well, the two are tied together, now aren't they?

Happy New Year one and all...I'm going to celebrate the new year, but not like the jihadists in the article...

Basically I am a devotee of 'safe and sane'... So I will only drink a beer or 12...But I will only do it with adult supervision, so you don't have to worry...

Islam, where Auld Lang Syne—all 1400 years of it—is *never* forgot...

The corruption of spiritual values; the biblical errors; the violence of the Koran, Hadiths and the history of Muhammad must be put on trial. The foundation or source of Islamic fanaticism is right there in these source materials.
By simply exposing them to public scrutiny we can undermine the entire religion and return it to the world of dangerous fiction that it is.

May it be twelve. That'll show those Mohammedans. Happy New Year, duh-swami.

For a jihadist, nothing says "Happy New Year" like a few drive-by shootings! "Six killed in new attacks in Thai south...

Well put RS. Nothing spells certain disaster quite like Islam does. Islam in totality is distilled evil in its purist form. Muhammad was a murderous and completely insane full blown narcissist.

I am an ex-Muslim who has a half decent website. Feel free to send a link to family and friends. Especially my fellow Canadians out there. Cheers and a Merry Happy New Years eve to all y’all. http://www.considerationsofacanadianex-muslim.org

Yep another big year, one for the ages. Muslim cruelty hits full reaper mode.

The non-Muslim world must put the Islamic source material (The Koran, Hadiths and Muhammad) on trial. Fighting individual Muslims with huge military resources is ultimately a losing battle. The corruption in these source materials is right there is bold print for everyone to look at. If we put these sources on trial we will undermine the entire religion by showing it as the dangerous fiction that it is. Islam must go altogether. Don't argue with Muslims. That is Islamic pruning which makes it stronger and more pervasive. Islam must be uprooted from its sources.

Hey SaleemSmith,

I've tagged your site for future reading and quickly checked you pages. I've noticed you don't have a contact or comment section, and that's OK. Just thought you might like some feedback after the readin' is done. But then again, that will inevitably expose you to hate mail also, and that can't be helped.

Ugh.

Happy New Year to all.

I'd just like to wish everyone a Happy Infidel New Year!
New Year's Resolution:
Since my daughter just graduated from college this year, I did not have enough left over to contribute to JW in 2009, but I resolve to change that situation in the coming year. I hope everyone else also resolves to try and help JW more in 2010.

Hesperado, perhaps you should have bolded "have been killed" in the sentence,

More than 4,000 people have been killed and thousands more wounded since a separatist rebellion erupted nearly six years ago in Thailand's troubled provinces bordering Malaysia.

We are not told by whom those 4,000 "have been killed," but I recall reading that almost all of those deaths were caused by jihadis. I'll bet one could verify that from the news sources, via www.thereligionofpeace.com.

4,000 in 6 yr's = 666.666666666 [er year

Malaysia really does need to be held to account for this. It is not an innocent party in all of this.

Building on what joeblough and Hesperado have observed:

here, for the benefit of any Thai non-Muslim lurkers and any lurking non-Muslim journalists we may have looking over our shoulders, is my rewrite of the news story, including the bit at the end which, as American Delight observes, blames the Buddhists for the violence, by carefully omitting the fact that the Thais won their southern provinces in *defensive* warfare after having been sneak-attacked out of the blue by their then-Muslim neighbours (who had been Hindus and Buddhists and south-east asian animists, perfectly culturally-compatible with the Thais, until Islamised some centuries earlier by the usual processes of infiltration, force and fraud). I have written it as it would look if both the Thai authorities and the AFP journalists knew what they were dealing with.

'New Muslim attacks kill six in Thai south: police," from AFP, December 31:

'PATTANI, Thailand -- Suspected Muslim jihad raiders killed two Thai soldiers and four civilians in drive-by shootings in the latest violence in jihad-wracked southern Thailand, police said Thursday.

'More than 4,000 people, mostly non-Muslim civilians, have been murdered and thousands more wounded since jihad resumed nearly six years ago in Thailand's majority-Muslim southern provinces bordering Malaysia.

'Two members of the rangers security force and a Buddhist civilian were assassinated Thursday in a drive-by shooting in Narathiwat province by suspected jihad raiders who also took the troops' assault rifles, police said.

'Muslim gunmen on motorbikes shot dead a 42-year-old villager as he drove home in neighbouring Pattani province, also on Thursday, said police.

'On Wednesday, motorbike-riding jihad raiders murdered a 49-year-old assistant to a village chief in Pattani at a local tea shop, police said.

'An hour later a district chief aged 45 was shot dead by gunmen in a pick-up truck while he was driving home from a meeting in Pattani. The shooting also injured two villagers.

'The current wave of Jihad is dated from January 2004, when jihadists raided a southern army base, killing four soldiers, and has escalated with a string of attacks ranging from bombings and shootings to burnings, beheadings, mutilations and crucifixions.

'Muslim hostility had remained under the surface in the region with occasional flare-ups, since predominantly Buddhist Thailand annexed the former Malay Muslim sultanate - in the course of defending itself from a sneak attack made against Thailand by said sultanate - in 1902.

'The shadowy jihadists never claim responsibility for their attacks; the jihad has for the moment remained confined to the south where Muslims have a stronger presence; no links to foreign jihad outfits have yet been traced."

Nice. Nice work.

I went back and read the original AFP item for comparison.

You nailed it.

So nice to see a bit of news not written in voiceless Euphemese.

ahhhhhhhhhhh, those little jihadis, you really have to give them an "A" for effort

they must have read the government memo about not saying the "j" word ...... and boy did they run with that one!

so off the little boogers go; i guess they thought they got a get out of jail free card
