Good gawd these people are pathetic. The perpetrator of the rape is obviously using shariah law to cover his ass, and it is disgusting that the legal system is giving him sanction. Is rape, of the kind we recognize in the West as violating the rights of women, even recognized as an offense in Islam? Anyone?

It should be obvious now that one should not go to a Muslim country and get drunk. Getting drunk leads to doing and being subjected to bad things. Doing so in a Muslim country leads to indifference on the part of the locals when you are violated.

I'm not saying she is to blame; she is not. But there are enough examples out there to show what a bad idea this is.

I have a tough time understanding why any western tourist would ever choose a muslim country for fun and adventure: you won't get much of the former and more than you can handle of the latter.

The legal age for consumption of alcohol is 18 in Abu Dhabi, although a Ministry of Tourism by-law only allows hotels to serve alcohol to over 21s, and 21 in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, except Sharjah where any alcohol consumption is illegal.

My opinion is “When in Rome …”. For as long as we insist on visitors to the UK abiding by our rules, what right have we to disobey the laws of a country we visit just because we find these inconvenient? And while I would not wish rape on any woman - alcohol and sex outside marriage is taboo under Sharia law and this couple, as Muslims, should know this. Hopefully, as long as our politicians stay out of all this, the Dubai authorities will in due course punish the Syrian waiter appropriately while letting the British Asian couple off with little more than a good dressing down.

Regardless of whether she was a muslim or not, being in an Islamic country, she will be tried for illegal drinking and having sexual intercourse outside of marriage.

Regardless, she has 3 strikes against her, she is in an Islamic country that contains elements of shariah law, she is a female, and she is a muslim who perpetrated the "sin" of drinking alcohol and having sexual intercourse being unmarried. 3 Strikes and your out!!

And since she had no other male witnesses to her rape, under Surah 2:282, the court will not believe her because one she is a muslim woman, and under Islamic law she has no rights. Under this Surah, unless she has 2 or more witnesses, preferrably male, the syrian man will not be charged with rape, but with "illegal sex."

Let me post Surah 2:282 from the book of "peace" and "tolerance".

The Qur’an in Sura 2:282 says, "…And get two witnesses, Out of your own men. And if there are not two men, Then a man and two women, Such as ye choose, For witnesses, So that if one of them errs, The other can remind her…."

I do not think that Dubai, being Islamic, will disregard this Surah. That would mean going against the very words of "allah" and go against what that butcher Muhammed preached.

Muslims can never question the validity of their prophet nor false god. My heart goes out to this muslim woman. I just hope that the UN and Amnesty International takes a good long hard look at this, and the British Embassy for that matter, helps one of their citizens.

Under shariah law, women even if raped, do not stand a chance of being forgiven or redeemed. If the West goes under Shariah Law, or the world for that matter, there is nothing stopping the Islamists from perpetrating Islamic justice, ascertained from their own "holy" book.

As for her boyfriend, I wonder if he will marry her after this, considering that he will consider her a "whore" and being dishonored now. If they get the 6 yr jail term,(considering that she is not stoned) once out, will he have her killed for dishonoring him? Remember "honor killings," they are prevalent in Islamic societies and condoned. They are mandatory to "maintain" honor.

I feel sorry for this lady. If the west continues to be lethargic, and we get under the balloon of shariah law, women that are raped will have no voice, no rights, and may even lose their life.
