Flight 253 jihadist not religious when he arrived in Yemen, but grew "more committed to praying and Islam"

Now wait a minute. If he grew more committed to Islam, wouldn't that have made him more peaceful? Is that what Obama and Holder and every other authority in the West constantly tells us? And if the opposite is true, if a deepening commitment to Islam made Abdulmutallab more violent and hateful, aren't there public policy implications in that fact that those authorities should stop ignoring? "Plane suspect was secular when he arrived in Yemen," by Mohammed Ghobari for Reuters, January 4 (thanks to James):

SANAA, Jan 4 (Reuters) - A young Nigerian man charged with trying to blow up a U.S. plane on Christmas Day was not deeply religious when he arrived in Yemen in 2004 but evolved into a devoted follower of Islam, a former teacher said.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, stayed in Yemen for a year between 2004 to 2005, before returning for another stay from Aug. 4 to Sept. 21 of last year, Yemeni officials have said. A teacher at the Sana Institute for the Arabic Language, who taught Abdulmutallab during his time in Yemen, said he was "closer to being secular" when he first arrived in the country.

"But during his visit last year, he was more committed to praying and Islam," the teacher said....

Well, you can see what that led up to...Seems to be a common problem...No one explained to him that he was mis understanding some very important points. He must have been studying 'out of context' or not in Arabic...He was confused because he couldn't figure out Quran 3:1...'Alim Lam Mim'...Had he e-mailed Hooper at CAIR, Doug could have straightened him out...

Of course, the idea that Abdulmatallab was not at all religious when he arrived is certainly questionable, as well. I don't believe his sudden intense desire to learn Arabic was for business or academic reasons, nor would he have had to travel to *Yemen* to learn the language.

I imagine it is true, though, that he became *more* religious while in Yemen, where the Islam practiced is taken pretty much straight up—and it's not the sort of thing that leads to a man becoming more peaceful.

Somewhat OT, but Yemen's neighbor Dubai now boasts the world's tallest tower. Are you ready for this? The 828m tower (2X Empire State Bldg) is named "Burj Khalifa", as in 'caliphate'. Is this to remind us the great power of the Caliphate towering over the whole world? Here is the definition of Islamic Caliphate: "Definition: caliph's territory or reign: the territory over which a caliph's rule extends, or the time for which it lasts." Lest you be warned, do not build taller than the 'Burj Khalifa' minaret, you groveling dhimmis.

BTW, this super-tower was built by an American architectural firm: Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, LLP (Chicago), per Wiki. American! What will the Yemeni jihadis think of that? In your face, jihad!

It was the Jews.

Yemen seizes 'Israel-linked' cell

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has said the security forces have arrested a group of alleged Islamist militants linked to Israeli intelligence.

Mr Saleh did not say what evidence had been found to show the group's links with Israel, a regional enemy of Yemen.

The arrests were connected with an attack on the US embassy in Sanaa last month which killed at least 18 people, official sources were quoted saying.

Israel's foreign ministry has rejected the accusation as "totally ridiculous".

Last night while watching Amanpour on CNN, there was a scene in the program where there was a debate between moderate and extremist Muslims. When one of the extremists addressed the audience, there was great disappointment among the naive whene said that people should get the idea that Islam is a "religion of peace" out of their minds.

It only goes to show what being committed to Islam can do to a person.
If Islam were a religion of peace it should have made him peaceful, not a homicidal bomber.

Well, of course it was—you didn't expect *Muslims* to build the world's tallest building, did you?

By the way, this monstrosity contains the "world's highest mosque", on the 158th floor of the 160-story building. It also features the world's highest nightclub.

I suppose this means that Jihad terrorists will have to be careful while blowing up the nightclub to leave the mosque undamaged. Or not—surely Allah will understand.
