Some 1,500 al Qaeda terrorists have "graduated" from the program, including 108 former Guantanamo Bay detainees, the Washington Post reported.
"The Saudis talk about a success rate of 80 to 90 percent, but when you look at what those numbers mean in reality, it all falls down. There is no criteria for evaluation," John Horgan, a Department of Homeland Security consultant, told the New York Post....
It is just window dressing for outsiders. Saudi Arabia thinks it can buy off everyone without having to take sides. Also, the unstated truth is that it prefers the jihadist side as long as it does not try to topple the monarchy. Why release anyone to that country when it is quite plain that Saudi Arabia does not take this matter seriously.
A few may be "cured" -- bribed, with more impliedly to come -- of their desire to conduct Jihad against the people whose welfare most concerns the Al-Saud family and its courtiers, which is to say, the Al-Saud family and its courtiers.
But none were cured, through comical Art Therapy or Snickers bars or through sunbathing by the pool after a few laps, of the Islam-driven imperative to fight, to kill, the Infidels. They were merely persuaded, or subject to sessions of extreme coddling masquerading as persuasion, that here and there suggested that the Al-Saud were good Muslims, were doing their best to spread Islam all over the globe, and were conducting Jihad themselves, through deployment of the Money Weapon, in a way far more effective than that of a suicide-bomber here and a suicide-bomber there. And of course the Al-Saud are right. They are up to their necks in spreading Islam, in conducting Jihad to remove all obstacles to its spread. You don't need Jackson Pollock (or "Pollack"), either the real thing or seventh-avenue knock-offs, to make some Muslims see that particular light, luz, lumiere, luchina.

Pretty laughable but since were talking about nutty ideas, since so much of the Islamofascist mentality (and Islamic ideology) relates to sex and the repression of sexual desires (e.g. 72 virgins, slave girls, Aisha, lack of socialization with the opposite sex, etc.) I think a far better strategy to tackle Islamic extremism than "Art Therapy" would be to give jihadists vouchers for hookers. I think having Jihadists that are spending more time being oversexed vs. spending time planning Jihad makes far more sense.
Laugh all you want, I'm willing to wager that my 'Hooker Vouchers for Jihadi's' idea would have more tangible results than Saudi sponsored 'Art Therapy'.

Even if music was allowed and you trained them to play instruments they would just end up singing songs about killing infidels, that is until they decided to just use their instruments as weapons to kill infidels (think The Who smashing their instruments except The Muslims would smash them on the heads of infidels instead of the stage). When all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail, or in the case of Islam, whatever you have or can do, use it to attack and kill infidels.

The reality is that the highest priority of the Saudi Royal Family is protecting its hold on power. If they can convince ex al-Qaeda operatives not to attack them, they have completed the goals of the rehabilitation.
Reality number two is that Osama bin Ladin is the true follower of Muhammad. From the "migration" to a place where they can freely practice their form of Islam, to jihad against the infidels, the so-called "extremists" are the true Muslims. It is impossible for the Shaykhs and instructors involved in the rehabilitation to counter this, with the result that the true committed Muslims are the ones who escape to Yemen and continue the battle.

Your post is excellent. I teach international students in a community college. Many, many of them are Saudis. I just don't know how they can be reached with the truth. In one class, I asked them their opinion of Saddam Hussain. They said he was a hero. On another topic, a student stated that the manned landing on the moon was just a video, not the truth. These are among the best students of their countries (Saudia Arabia, Libya, Qatar). Really, what can be done with people like these?

I would be willing to bet that if a collection of Terrorist Art was put together they would be able to auction it for a fairly decent sum. There are enough demented dhimmis out there who would kill to have one of these pieces in their collection. Imagine the conversations they could have with their liberal friends discussing their wonderful Terrorist Art treasures.
Along the lines of the suggestion by JamestheFin, but more acceptable perhaps to the mainstream, here's an idea (not entirely tongue-in-cheek) for rehabilitating the young wanna-be jihadis: instead of letting them brood sitting in the men's section of their segregated tea gardens, sipping glasses of hot, sweet tea, as is the custom in the Middle East, while surveying lone females in the family section, and dreaming of jihad, why not show them a new way of relating to the world? Invite them to have a beer, or two, relax a bit, mix with females, as equals, get to know a few -- chat them up, you know. Encourage them to try dancing a bit ( I hear music helps free pent-up emotions), and sing along to popular love, rock, and country songs. Have a few pub discussions, noisy though they may be, with folks who might hold different opinions. In other words, loosen the shackles of Islam, and live a little.
Simple? To us, yes, but to them, revolutionary. "Exploring their feelings non-violently" in this way might even become their favourite activity.

Even then we would have to be very very careful of jailhouse conversions which they would renounce and turn back to Islam when let out. But other than this the only answer is to kill them. If them remain a Muslim they will always want to follow it as much as possible. They already crossed that bridge.

Exactly. Although my 'hooker vouchers for Jihadist's' was largely in jest and only slightly less looney than 'Art Therapy for Jihadist's' The West has an opportunity to convert Muslims that are living in the West without nearly as many hurdles as Islamic countries. Sure, the Leftists in League with Muslims may not like Christians(or anyone else who wants to help) but converting as many Muslims as possible living in the West should be a goal by all Christians. It's a pity all too many Christian leaders are so infected with the PC-Multicultural virus e.g. Rowan Williams.
And even in the West with our still small numbers of Muslims it isn't safe for any Muslim to convert. Look at Rifqa Barry. If anything, long term, America needs to present itself as a Muslim-free zone where any apostate from Islam is welcome. If Europe and then America become even partly Islamized, there will be no place to run, there will be no where that someone who wants to renounce Islam is safe. Making America a Muslim-free zone is actually what is best even for Muslims since even they need some place they can run away to if they ever decide to leave Islam.
But the idea that we are having our proud soldiers handle Korans with white gloves and catering to the Islamic terrorists with meals and prayer times truly freaks me out and enrages me. If I ever saw the person from our government who put that program together I would probably not be able to control myself, I would scream red-faced in his or her face and probably end up getting arrested. Fine post, AI. Islam indeed must cease to exist. There's no reforming it. It's gotta' go. But before it does untold numbers (both Muslim and non-Muslim) will be killed or maimed because of the single worst idea, long term, that man has ever produced-------Islam.

Remember that the three step program requested of an Infidel: conversion, dhimmitude or death, means that violence is not immediately necessary. As Hugh pointed out, the Saudis would rather just spend their ample money for the educational/dawa/conversion part rather than resort to the riskier, messier tasks.

The best advice I can give is to have your wife regularly read the postings on blogs like JW, and Religion of Peace, American Thinker, Atlas Shrugs, and many of the others listed in the right hand column of JW. They'll give an idea of what awaits in a Moslem-ruled Britain.
