(CNSNews.com) - The State Department has awarded 1,011 special "diversity visas" allowing Yemeni nationals to immigrate to the United States since 2000, the year 17 U.S. sailors were killed when the USS Cole was attacked by terrorists in the Yemeni port of Aden.The "diversity visas" are designed to encourage immigration from countries that do not otherwise send significant numbers of immigrants to the United States.
The State Department roster of all countries whose nationals have received "diversity visas" to immigrate to the United States in 2010, for example, shows that 2 of these immigrants will be from Luxembourg, 3 from the Solomon Islands, 4 from French Guiana, 5 from Reunion, 6 from Cape Verde, 7 from Malta, 8 from Guinea-Bissau, 9 from Comoros, 10 from Suriname--and 72 from Yemen. Nationals of the four states listed by the State Department as state sponsors of terrorism--Cuba, Iran, Sudan, and Syria--also received "diversity visas" from the State Department to immigrate to the United States in 2010. These include 98 from Syria, 298 from Cuba, 1,084 from Sudan, and 2,773 from Iran.
That the U.S. would encourage immigration from Yemen during the past decade is of interest because of the terrorist problem in that country.

Is it possible that no one in Congress has the wit to raise hell about this? Is it possible that American citizens haven't the collective wit to do so, and to extend their fury to all the easy admissions of people whose presence in this country necessarily increases the headache, and the terrific expense, of monitoring them, and others, out of well-justified worries about national security?
"Well-justified" you ask?
If someone identifies himself as a Muslim, he is thereby saying that he believes that the Qur'an is the Uncreated and Immutable and Literal Word of God. You and I and the government and the government's security services are "well-justified" in believing that, and not in convincing ourselves to believe something else. So what is in the Qur'an? Let's read it, let's re-read it, let's read the Muslim (and useful non-Muslim) commentaries on it -- Robert Spencer has provided a published guide, first put up at JW, sura by sura, for the many who can use, and profit, from such guidance -- and then let's see what we can ascribe to these Muslim immigrants, can reasonably assume that they believe.
And the same goes for the figure of Muhammad, the Perfect Man as Muslims see him. What did Muhammad say? What did he do? Let's find out, by reading those Hadith that Muslims regard as the most authentic, and let's read with care the biography of Muhammad, to find out what he did that are part of that life of the for-all-time to-be-emulated Perfect Man (al-insan al-kamil).
And once we have done that, we are in a position to judge whether or not it is wise to continue to allow Muslims to enter this country.
Since almost everyone who comes regularly to this site is now in such a position, I will ask you: does the policy described above make sense? Has it won hearts and minds in Yemen? Can you think of any reason why it may not have, and never could have, won hearts and minds of Muslims in Yemen, or Muslims anywhere else, but has only increased, and can only increase, the national security threat to this country?
Can you figure out what makes those who presume to protect us so endlessly and so continuously and so unembarrasedly stupid?

Rewarding countries which are inhabited by islamists bent on the destruction of America with visas and citizenship is a tragic mistake. National Security trumps meaningless and absurd good will gestures.
The State Dept, as well as other Government agencies, continue to behave in pre 911 mode. They practice reactive PR policies rather than proactive and preventive defensive ones . They lock the front door but leave the back door open. They are either ignorant of or willfully deny what and who the actual enemy is , meanwhile Americans and our treasure continue to bleed. They are as pathetic as those who would try to stand up and fight Nazis without first understanding Nazism, or who would try to defeat the “Reds” without having a an understanding of communism
The numbers above receiving "diversity visas" in 2010 are statistically insignificant in the US population of more than 300 million. Even in a decade's span, these numbers projected would still be insignificant, except possibly for those of Sudan and Iran.
This suggests that there is no pragmatic purpose to the program and perhaps that it was a bone thrown to someone with Beltway connections and darker motivations, or nothing more than a hypocritical giveaway at the expense of the American people.
Diversity is not the reason for this program!
Perhaps soon our government will also be giving extra diversity visas to more Saudi's and Syrians? God knows, Bush gave up over 1,000 visas to Iraqi families in 2008 which of course headed straight for Deerborn. Considering 15 of the 19 9/11 Islamic Terrorists were Saudi's I'm quite sure our current administration will think it prudent to bring as many Saudi's as they can into our country. Nothing to worry about here my friends?
You tell me there is no plan to destroy this country from the inside.....
For the PURPOSE of? WHY are we "encouraging" such immigration? To expand trade opportunities? To provide language teachers? There seems to be a very popular misconception that the State Dept. sets immigration policy.
This is inaccurate to say the least.
The Diversity Visa program, as implemented by State and by DHS, is wholly the brain-child of the U.S. Congress, per "INA 203(c) (8 U.S.C. 1153(c)), INA 204(a)(1)G)(ii) (8 U.S.C. 1154(a)(1)(G)(ii)), Sec. 1 of Public Law 105-360, Sec. 636 of Public Law 104-208, Public Law 106-570, Public Law 107-56 and Sec. 422(c) of Public Law 107-56."

Per 9 FAM 42.33, N1, "BACKGROUND":
"a. Section 131 of the Immigration Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-649) amended INA 203 (8 U.S.C. 1153) to provide for a new class of immigrants known as “diversity immigrants” (DV immigrants). The amendment established an annual numerical limitation of 55,000 DV immigrants effective for fiscal year 1995 and thereafter. Aliens who are natives of countries determined by the Attorney General through application of a mathematical formula specified in INA 203(c)(1)(A) (8 U.S.C. 1153(c)(1)(A)) to be “low admission” countries may compete for immigration under this limitation. INA 203(c)(1) requires a separate registration of all competing aliens for each fiscal year.
b. INA 203(c)(1)(A) requires the Attorney General to determine the actual number of immigrant admissions from each foreign country for the previous five year period. The formula identifies both high and low admission regions and high and low admission foreign states. A greater share of the available visa numbers goes to low admission regions. High admission states are excluded from the program.
c. In November 1997, Congress passed Public Law 105-100, the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act (NACARA). With NACARA, Congress stipulated that beginning with the 1999 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV-99), and as long as necessary, up to 5,000 of the 55,000 annually-allocated diversity visas (DV) can be made available for use under the NACARA program."
Wherever it says "Attorney General," mentally substitute the Secretary of Homeland Security, since the immigration function was transferred to DHS from DOJ.

I have no objection to people of every religion and color immigrating to the U.S., with one exception, because of the totalitarian ambitions of that religion: Islam. In Europe, where the Muslim population is quite large and rapidly increasing, the climate of free speech is eroding. Just recently, a Muslim wielding an axe broke into the home of cartoonist Kurt Westergaard and tried to kill him. Westergaard is of course the cartoonist who drew the now famous image of Muhammad with a bomb in his turban. Several other famous public individuals have been murdered by Muslims imitating the actions of the prophet of Islam, and more public individuals must live under 24-hour guard. Still more have given in to threats of violence and silenced themselves. The media frequently self-censors on the subject of Islam. It's time for Western officials to take such things seriously, raise public awareness about them, and stop them.
Polls show that 1% of Muslims are interested in actually participating in terror attacks, and another 5% to 10% are prepared to support the jihadists in one way or another, for example by not reporting jihadists to the authorities. But worst of all is that polls show between 40% and 60% of Muslims have strong sympathies with substitution of Islamic law for Western legal systems.
If the foregoing doesn't matter to you, then to me it suggests that you don't care as much as I do about freedom of speech, freedom of conscience, and the civil and political rights that I consider the heart of Western values. Anyone who knows what I've just recounted about Muslim polling results, and who knows about the terrible human rights records of Muslims nations, even the best of which -- Indonesia -- is rather poor in terms of religious freedom -- anyone who knows all that and knows also about the nearly 15,000 deadly attacks carried out in the name of Islam around the globe over the last 8 or 9 years; anyone who in response to all that nevertheless encourages, rather than stops, Muslim immigration to the U.S., I consider terribly misguided, at best.
I lean Democrat, but the party that I consider most realistic about Islam is the one that will probably get my vote in the future.
Some examples from Qur'an and Hadith of why I urge there be a moratorium on Muslim immigration to the U.S.:

Despite propaganda and disinformation emanating from stealth jihadists who use deception and other means rather than violence, The Qur'an, Hadith, and canonical biography of Muhammad all show a faith bent on world domination, suppression of freedom of speech and freedom of conscience, and reduction of non-Muslims to second class citizens subject to many forms of legal discrimination. Profitsbeard, as a former Consular officer responsible for administering immigration law, I have some tidbits on "diversity immigration" for you.
When I served, Consular officers generally referred to "diversity immigration" as "the Irish Sweepstakes" because it's fundamentally a lottery for which nationals of under-represented emigration countries are eligible
Ted Kennedy sold the original Immigration Reform of 1965 by assuring all and sundry that basing immigration numbers on family reunification and rare skills would do nothing to change America's ethnic composition. After a few years, when many Latin Americans and Asians immigrated, it became clear that a lot of Chinese, Korean, and Viet immigrants perceived **GASP!** the Republicans as more anti-Communist, and failed to vote Democratic when they naturalized. So, Kennedy and a few other Northeastern liberals noticed that European immigration was drying up, and thought they needed to rebuild the great Polish-, Irish-, Italian-, and Jewish-American Democratic urban machines. Hence, this attempt to rebuild a white immigrant population was called "diversity" immigration because the main immigrant groups--Mexicans, Chinese, and Filipinos--would not be eligible (too many of 'em--let 'em stick to rejoining relatives or being brain drain immigrants).
Well, Europeans still didn't want to immigrate in large numbers, so we got more Africans, Middle Easterners, and South Asians.
My gripe never was who was coming. We've gotten good people (and bad) from everywhere. But "diversity immigration" (which originally embodied a very subtle racism) just made our immigration law more complex and kinky.
Don't blame the State Department for the snafu. Visa officers have to do what the law--passed by Congress--tells them to do. They can stop criminals and certain other excluded categories because of provisions in the law; but guess how cooperative certain sending countries are in revealing who's a baddie!
And, frankly, if we made a provision in the law that said "Europeans only", we'd probably end up with lots of "Youths" from the Balieux of Paris and Marseilles and British Muslims.

Well intentioned and to the point, such letters should be made a daily concern for the hypocritical/PC politicians, I think the western world needs to stand up and push up this campaign using different ways, mass rallies, incessant e-mails/letters and so on, the Jihadists are more active in this sense, they already have 'virtual Afghanistan' and a world wide tracker for jihad-recruitment adresses, all these are avilable on the internet.

Sometimes I muse about how nice it would be if, after vacation

Just imagine if, instead of 72 visas for people from Yemen (unless, as Winoceros pointed out above, those visas were *actually* used to rescue some of the few remaining Yemeni Jews from the Predator Pits), those 72 visas were given to, say, 72 Egyptian Coptic Christians, or to 72 desperate persecuted-by-Muslims Assyrian Christians.
Wouldn't that be nice?
