Sisters In Islam has published a good deal of valuable information about the plight of women under Sharia. And now they have won an important free speech case. The Dutch persecutors prosecutors of Geert Wilders should take note. "Malaysian Court Ends Ban on Book," by Liz Gooch in the New York Times, January 25 (thanks to Not Yet):
KUALA LUMPUR -- Free speech advocates were rejoicing Monday after a Malaysian court quashed a government ban on a book about the challenges facing Muslim women. In a country where human rights organizations say that government censorship pervades many parts of public life, the decision was hailed as a victory for freedom of expression.
"We were hoping, we were praying that this would mark a good day for all Malaysians," said Professor Norani Othman, the editor of the banned book, "Muslim Women and the Challenges of Islamic Extremism," a collection of essays by international scholars. "It's a good day for academic freedom."
In July 2008, the Ministry of Home Affairs banned the book, published in 2005 by Sisters in Islam, a Malaysian nongovernmental organization, on the grounds that it was "prejudicial to public order" and that it could confuse Muslims, particularly Muslim women.
The Printing Presses and Publications Act states that anyone who prints, publishes or distributes a banned publication can be fined up to 20,000 ringgit, or $5,900, jailed for up to three years, or both. Anyone found in possession of a banned publication without lawful excuse can be fined up to 5,000 ringgit....
Keep it as Dutch persecutors Mr. Spencer.
Oh the irony, more freedom of speech critical of Islam allowed in Muslim countries than Infidelic ones.
Dear Muslim Females - Read This to See How You Could Be Treated

I've read lots of books that confused me, but I didn't feel it was necessary to ban them.
Poor little muslimas! Muslim men wouldn't want them to be confused....or enlightened.
"...was "prejudicial to public order" and that it could confuse Muslims, particularly Muslim women."
There's that thing again about "confusing Muslims".
Do you think that maybe Muslims aren't quite right in their minds, or maybe they just lack the capability to figure out those things that non-Muslims seem to have already figured out. Since Muslims are human, there is no reason to suspect their intellect to be deficient. Maybe there is something about Islam that debilitates the mind and makes them subject to confusion.
Do you think the problem could be Islam?
Nah!!... It's probably just that the Imams don't want Muslims to be confronted with the really tough decisions about discerning the Evil that is Islam, and helpfully, the Imams strive to keep Muslims from encountering anything that might bring their faith into question.
If Muslims actually read and understood the Qur’ân, they would drop it like a hot turd.
It is OK for Muhams to kill, rape, molest, enslave, torture, beat these women, subjugate, war with, deceive, terrorize, divorce at the drop of the male hat, and other atrocities but they just can't say anything about it. Oh no, that would be too much.

Isn't it odd how easily Muslims are confused by hearing the truth? Maybe it's because they are exposed to so little of it usually...
