Martin Luther King, Jr.: supporter of Israel

Martin Luther King, Jr., was an opponent of the jihad against Israel. Some key and authenticated quotes:

"I cannot stand idly by, even though I happen to live in the United States and even though I happen to be an American Negro and not be concerned about what happens to the Jews in Soviet Russia. For what happens to them happens to me and you, and we must be concerned."

"Israel's right to exist as a state in security is uncontestable."

"Peace for Israel means security, and we must stand with all our might to protect its right to exist, its territorial integrity. I see Israel as one of the great outposts of democracy in the world, and a marvelous example of what can be done, how desert land can be transformed into an oasis of brotherhood and democracy. Peace for Israel means security and that security must be a reality."

"I solemnly pledge to do my utmost to uphold the fair name of the Jews -- because bigotry in any form is an affront to us all."

"When people criticize Zionists they mean Jews, you are talking anti-Semitism."

The tolerant anti Zionist would rather you forget that fact, Robert. Shh.

Ahmen!! to that. Great find Robert!

"When people criticize Zionists they mean Jews, you are talking anti-Semitism."

Respect!

Thank you for that reminder, and thanks for posting it on such an appropriate day.

I'd forgotten that Dr. King said that. He was a great man, and taken from us way too soon.

Sounds a lot more positive than Ahmadinejad's " We will wipe Israel from the face of the earth"...
but of course, Martin L. King Jr was a true man of Peace, Ahmadinejad isn't...

I have been focusing on the negative aspects of Islam without providing an alternative that would be acceptable to both Muhammadens and Non-Muhammadens. Because of this awareness I am now offering the following. Over thirty years of studying major and minor religions, psychology and philosophy I have distilled, for myself, a common understanding. This may or may not be applicable to Martin Luther King’s day but I have been compelled to present this on any day. I believe the ‘good doctor’ would approve.

We live in a world surrounded by and completely composed of atomic particles within us and in everything. All of our senses perceive the molecular motions of these atomic particles through molecular interactions with our skin in touch; the mechanisms in the ear in hearing; the eyes in sight; the nostrils in smell; the tongue in taste; the brain in thought; in the food and drink we consume; in the air we breathe. All of our senses prefer harmony, equilibrium or chemical balance. When it is too hot, too cold, too bright, too rancid, too salty, too noxious, too loud, too sharp, too painful, etc. we seek harmony. Psychology, psychiatry, religion, sex, hunger, thirst, status, egotism, revenge, medication, socializing, natural settings, beauty and almost if not all humans pursuits and drives can be seen as perversions of or agreement with our innate desire for the fulfillment of harmonious loving union with all in the Omniverse or GOD.
If we split the nucleus of an atom or fuse two nuclei together we start a chain reaction that will release much energy. Einstein’s theory E = MC2 provides a scientific basis for atomic energy’s presence everywhere. Everywhere there is GOD’S Spirit for the religious or Atomic Energy for the scientifically minded. This Spirit or energy exists in the good and the bad and the ugly. There is no place to turn that the atomically charged energy/Spirit of the Omniverse/GOD does not exist including our so-called enemies.
Religion and science are speaking about the same Creator. Monotheistic religions use the term GOD as Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent and the Creator of all things. Science and common sense logic are aware the all things must have come from the Omniverse (all universes or everything). Every living thing is a creation of GOD in religious terms or a product of the Omniverse in scientific terms. All living things are part of and at one with GOD or the Omniverse. There is no escaping this fact no matter how much alcohol, drugs, distractions, denial, hatred, divisive thought, work, wealth or poverty we have. All humans have an inherent desire for acceptance of and harmonious loving union with, the inescapable unity that is the Omniverse or GOD.
Christianity (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and 1 Corinthians Chapter 13), Hinduism (through the Bhagavad-Gita), Buddhism (basic Buddhist principles), some of the minor religious beliefs, some current and past philosophers and good old common sense are in agreement with humanity’s innate desire to cooperate with our yearning for harmonious loving unity with the unity that already exists within us and in the world around us in the Omniverse or GOD.
Here is a brief list of some of the reasons that Muhammadenism is a spiritual or psychological illness that is not compatible with our innate desire for harmonious loving union with ourselves, all of humanity, nature and the world around us. Killing, raping, divorcing at the slightest provocation, enslaving and trading slaves either directly as commonly understood or through the death penalty for leaving or not believing what you believe, molesting children, forcing anyone to believe something against their will, forced prostitution, demonizing hate speech along with the hate and divisiveness it produces, suicide, prejudice, racism (Arab, black or any other), terrorism, deception, idolatry, piracy/looting/thievery, anger, jealousy, abuse, sexism, harassment, violence, arrogance, ignorance and others are incompatible with World Peace or harmonious loving union with all by all.
Islamic source materials are spiritual and/or psychological diseases for their adherents and the rest of the planet. This disease needs to be inoculated against and healed among those already infected. Harmonious loving union with all in the Omniverse/GOD is a defense against infection and a cure for those in its grip.

"Martin Luther King, Jr.: supporter of Israel"

Also, a Republican. Just sayin'.

Thank you for this important reminder, Robert. I'm sure a lot of people would actually be surprised by Martin Luther King's abhorrence of anti-Semitism and defense of Israel.

Exactly. And when people say they don't oppose Jews, they just oppose Israel, they are lying.

According to Robert's link, the authenticity of this document continues to be problematic. I point this out so that others - engaged in the art of disputation with our Leftist foes over it, will be prepared to have their assertion refuted. Though the King family has attributed the quote to MLK (which is good enough for me), nobody seems to be able to find the source document.

These quotes (if authentic) emanate from an era when Jews still were respected under the horrible shadow of the Holocaust. Some 40 years have past, and belligerent fanatical Muslims have elbowed Jews out of the way and taken their place, as the "New Jews" about whom we must tread on eggshells and worry lest we do anything that might possibly hint at beginning to go down the slippery slope toward "another Holocaust"; while the real Jews have fallen increasingly under suspicion of being supporters and enablers of an "apartheid" regime, if not downright fascists. I dare say that were MLK Jr. alive today, he'd be on that Bandwagon as the majority -- Left, Center and Right, Elites and Ordinaries, Boatrockers and Asskissers -- continue to be throughout the West.

I agree with one poster: Islam is a disease. There is no other way to describe it.

MLK was indeed a man of peace. He was anti-war, equal rights, and for the poor. I however would describe him as being as a supporter of "justice" and not necessarily a supporter of any one particular country.

I think the guy was a visionary in more ways than one!!

His observation ~ is so timely !!

MLK was one of my childhood heroes. He was such a great and inspiring man. How the Hell has Black America gone from him to the likes of Louis Farakan and Jeremiah Wright? The very Israel Dr. King spoke of is now resented or even hated by many who claim to have adored him. Obama Been Rotten is not in his league. he's more like Rev Ike.

Not to put a damper on MLK hagiography here, but I think it important to keep in mind that King refused to condemn any black African leader, no matter how nefarious and diabolical the actions of such were. King also expressed significant defeatist sentiments respecting American involvement in the Vietnamese War, even though the brutality which followed American withdrawal from SE Asia in 1975 began the real killing in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. MLK also gave support to certain Marxist theories, none of which work at all, and many of which are inimical to freedom and prosperity (the man simply did not grasp even the basics of capitalism). King also shocked his closest companions respecting the many mistresses he had, even though he was married and a man of the cloth (Bobby Kennedy as Attorney General had the goods on King here because he tapped his phones but his brother, the President, refused to release such tapes, even though he thought King a pain in the ass often times, because it wouldn't be the sporting thing to do and also because King's dalliances struck a little too close to home, if you get what I mean). Furthermore, King plagiarized on his doctoral thesis from Boston University. No one disputes this anymore, only why his doctorate was not stripped of him after his death.

Did King do good? Yes, he certainly did. Unlike many black contemporaries, he saw that the only America that would work would be an America where color (or ethnicity or gender or creed-----have to wonder, however, what he knew about Islam) would be of no account, where only character would matter. He also made a point of regularly appearing with the American flag in his background as a reminder to all that we are all Americans, a sentiment of the highest order I would argue. King was a brave and essentially decent man who had many flaws, including an inordinate approbation of Gandhi, who was a fool of the first order and who set into motion events that led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Just like Gandhi, King could not see that non-violent resistance would only work in a society that was basically decent to begin with but which had lost its way. Had King and Gandhi dealt with the Russians, Chinese, Japanese, or even the French or Germans, rather than the Americans and British respectively, they would have been shot early on and nothing more would have been heard of them. This was lost on both King and Gandhi. And while King may have said some positive things about Jews, I will here venture that had he lived another thirty years his sympathies would have been mostly with the Palestinian Arabs and not with the Israelis. King's left-wing sympathies could have allowed for no other course.

King had a large heart but he didn't really know how the world worked. He had tremendous flaws and never, to my mind, fully appreciated the greatness of America. Nonetheless, he was no ordinary mortal and did signficant good for America and all mankind before he died. His is indeed a mixed legacy. Speaking for myself, I have time for neither those who want to make King a saint or a villain.

I really doubt he'd have anything good to say about this racist aparthied regime today.

I agree with Phoenix, Dr. King wouldn't have anything good to say about the Islamic Aparthied regimes in Riyadh and Tehran.
