"Somali kids' program put on hold," by Beth Lamontagne Hall for the New Hampshire Union Leader, January 29 (thanks to Benedict):
MANCHESTER - A federally funded weekend education program for Somali refugee children has been put on hold after allegations it was teaching Muslim doctrine.Police Chief David Mara, Mayor Ted Gatsas and Superintendant [sic] of Schools Tom Brennan recently received a letter saying the Somali Bantu Community Association is teaching from the Quran during its weekend youth program.
Mukhtar Idhow, director of the group, said the program is not a religious school, but is a tutoring program for Somali children. The program is run through Southern New Hampshire Services and is housed at the city's Multicultural Center on Maple Street.
The goal, Idhow said, is to raise graduation rates in the Somali community. The program will not meet this weekend and will be on hold until after the group speaks with city officials and decides whether to continue, he said.
However, some say the problem is not the teaching of religion, but a Muslim-against-Muslim feud:
Idhow and other local officials say the letter is part of an ongoing feud between the leaders of the Somali Bantu organization and the Somali Development Center, another nonprofit group that provides aid to local Somali refugees."There's been a lot of rumors about bad blood between the different factions, said Dan Calegari of Southern New Hampshire Services. "I work with these people daily. There's never even been any hint of religious activity. ... It really comes down to animosity between different segments of the Somali population." ...

I love New Hampshire. My wife and I have a second home there. It is one of the most beautiful states I have ever been to. Some of its scenery, I am convinced, could not be surpassed anywhere else on earth. Traditionally its people have been tough and yet friendly, unlike the rest of New England where the people have "only" been tough (typical New England orneriness, not a bad thing I might add).
Thus, it saddens me to reflect upon Muslims being in the Granite State. Yes, it's also sad to think that there are Muslims anywhere in America since Islam and America stand for diametrically opposite ideals, but it's particularly irritating to have followers of a creed that would destroy the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States if it could in the state which has the greatest of all state mottos--------Live Free Or Die.
Islam is about submission, not freedom, and thus it is an insult to New Hampshire to have Islam practiced within its borders. If this statement offends anyone, then you're part of the giant problem all the West has respecting what the hell to do with Islam, the world's only religion which is also a totalitarian ideology and a giant enemy of liberty.
This nation is willingly committing slow and painful suicide by deliberately bringing in to our shores a people whose principal philosophy and ideology is based on a terror manual.
If 1400 hundred years of History and today's headlines, 911 etc. are not enough to convince our fellow slumbering beaurocrats and politicians what will!!. Brace yourselves for the fight for it is just beginning, do what you can to

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Thank you so much, gravenimage, for the link to that article by Mark Steyn. Yes, I knew he lived in New Hampshire (which, as he notes, is not quite as free as it used to be) and I have enjoyed many of his writings as well as his being a substitute host often times on Rush Limbaugh's radio show, but I had not read this partiuclar article which was actually a speech he gave at Hillsdale College.
Everyone who cherishes freedom should read this piece by Steyn ten times over. I savored every word of it and will re-read it many times. I think I'm going to make copies of it and hand it out to all of the students whom I teach. Most won't read it through of course. Many won't read it at all. But even if just one or two read it and grasp the wisdom in it, I think I'll declare victory (my teaching philosophy has always been to teach to the best and pull the rest along).
There is more wisdom in this speech by Steyn than in entire textbooks I have assigned to students over the years. I have tried my best to convey to students at least some of what Steyn so magnificently states in this article. In a way, it was humbling to read because few can approach Steyn's eloquence. I know I never have. Thank you again so much for the link to this great piece of prose which I wish everyone here at JW who loves freedom would read. My best to you and yours as always.

For Muslims, not just Somalis, there is permanent "bad blood" for anything non-Muslim that stands in their way. As the Qur'an keeps repeating ad nauseam?

OT Alberta has a Somali feud racking up alot of dead. The police are saying drug gangs, but interesting one body was dumped behind a synagogue a few months ago.(27 dead since 2005)

Read your world history, the Somalis from Africa are one of the most unforgiving and fiercest, kath chewing, Muslim warriors in the Umah. They were Jihadist war lords, and excellent slave traders from the past. They are very proud and do not reform or adapt very easily. They stick with their native traditions hard and fast and never change their customs that I know of.

The U.S. politians, new media, and 90% citizens have no clue about Islams history or who the Muslim Brotherhood is. And if you try to enlighten them, they accuse you of being a bigot. I know I have been trying for nearly 3 years now.
Another words, most of what we know, think, and or say, goes way over the heads of 90% of any population. And rightly so, because our American public schools do not teach the truth. They do teach what they are told to teach by CAIR, or Saudi Arabia because they gave millions of dollars to 1000's of schools, and they bought the books to teach from, they also bought the teachers or professers to teach it. The truth is not part of that agreement I'm sure.
And therefor, we are only about 10% of the world population whom have been enlightened.
Imagine how easy it would be to turn Haiti into a little Somalia. The conditions were ripe before the earthquate; all it would take now are a few hundred well-trained proselyitizers with a little bribe money to convince the thousands of unemployed young males that islam has all the answers. As soon as they round up a few thousand jihad recruits, the Saudis will send their best and brightest imams to build fancy new mosques and islamic centers, and a new islamic stronghold could be established in little time. Impoverished, illiterate people are easily manipulated and Haiti has been a mess for decades. I feel sure muslims will take full advantage of the golden opportunities presented by the earthquake to spread islam in Haiti and beyond.
On the homefront, the unfortunate cities in America blessed with thousands of Somali savages are incipient mini-Mogadishus. It will be interesting to see how the diversity-loving authorities handle the imminent tribal wars, which they are currently calling "gang-related" clashes. And not only are these Somali "gangs" going after each other, they are terrorizing the natives as well.
Give the social engineers a few more years and the Western world will be unrecognizable. And if you complain, you're a racist.
I don't know. If we right-wing Christians had a little more savvy and a little more initiative, Somali immigration would end up as dark-skinned, lean-figured, curly-haired, thin-nosed CHRISTIANS with exotic last names dotting the Northeast.
Get it out that while we condemn the oppression of women, blood feuds, etc., we can show a compassionate witness to its victims in the Somali immigratn community.
We've made inroads into the Little Tehrans of America and a few other Muslim immigrant communities. I've run into Christian elders and ministers with Jewish surnames; scads of Evangelicals descended from Roman Catholic immigrants; and the descendants of Buddhists and Daoists galore who are Christian.
The USA needs to rebuild a little of its old self-confidence.

For, after all, haven't we had a steady trickle of stories out of Somalia itself, describing assorted converted-out-of-Islam Somali Christians who have been murdered by jihadis as punishment for their apostasy? All they would have had to do to save their lives, is publicly declare a return to Islam. They did not; they clung to their new faith; *knowing* the barbaric death that they faced, for remaining faithful to Christ.
If some at least, even within Somalia (and also, I recall from a particular Christian publication, within Kenya - accounts of Somali Muslim women resident in Kenya, converting and being baptised), can leave Islam, then surely the same thing can happen outside of Africa.
Our own AlaskanInfidel has told us that in Alaska he has seen the light-filled, happy households of certain Somali families *who had converted to Christianity*.
However, we shouldn't kid ourselves it will come easy. Years ago, long before September 11 2001, a missionary from the church I then attended, who had spent years and years in Pakistan encouraging and building up the Christians there, stated re. Islam, "this kind cometh not out save by prayer and fasting".
Christians who hear the call to evangelise the Muslims currently resident in our midst, should have *no* illusions: they must know all the ugly facts about Islam, including the absence of the Golden Rule, the doctrine of al-wala we al-baraa, 'loyalty [to Muslims only] and enmity [to all non-Muslims]', and the all-pervasiveness of Deception, "we smile at some people, though our hearts hate them"; they have to know they will be going into the human and spiritual equivalent of what old hands in India used to refer to as Tiger Country. Yet our Lord did say he was giving his people authority to 'heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons', in conjunction with the preaching of the Word. Healing of sickness, resurrection from the dead, liberation from the demonic, are a pretty good description of what's involved when a Muslim is cracked free from Islam.
I would also say that the hope for conversions to Christianity of significant numbers of Somalis and other Muslims within the free non-Muslim world, does not stop me from arguing that that same free non-Muslim world would be wise to block any further Muslim immigration into itself.
During the Cold War Christians did all sorts of things to encourage the spread of the Gospel in the communist bloc; but, supposing the Communists instead of frantically blocking emigration from their lands had tried the 'hegira' tactic that dar al Islam seems to be using, it would have been suicidally foolish for the free world to have accepted hundreds of thousands or even millions of actively-card-carrying full-on Communists, whether Russian or central European or Chinese, as 'immigrants'.
