Saudi Arabia: Rape victim now faces 100 lashes for the crime of being raped

Recently someone forwarded me a pseudo-scholarly piece by a smooth Islamic apologist purporting to prove that I was wrong, wrong, wrong (and therefore evil as well, of course) about Islamic rules of evidence for crimes of zina (adultery, fornication, and other sexual offenses), and claiming that rape victims in the Islamic world are never punished for being raped. The slick liar who penned that piece ought to get 100 lashes instead of "Camille" for his obfuscation and enabling of this kind of torture of women.

An OFW is an Overseas Filipino Worker.

"Gov't urged to aid raped OFW in Saudi," from abs-cbnNEWS.com, January 21 (thanks to Jen):

MANILA, Philippines -An alliance of Filipino migrant organizations on Thursday blamed the government for its alleged inaction on the case of an OFW who was a victim of rape in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.

In a press statement, Migrante International said the OFW's family fears that Saudi authorities would soon carry out the 100 lashes penalty before releasing Camille (not her real name).

Camille got pregnant as a result of the rape. However, she lost the baby on her fourth month of pregnancy.

The group learned from Camille's relatives that the OFW had a miscarriage last December 2009 while detained at the Hafer Al Baten jail....

The Filipina was working as a janitress at a dental clinic for about 3 months when she was attacked by a co-worker, a Bangladeshi national only identified as a certain Mr. Mammon, last year.

Out of fear of the suspect, the victim decided to remain silent. She only revealed her ordeal when she found out she was pregnant....

Why should a rape victim get punished? Why is the Saudi government PUNISHING someone who's gone through a terrible ordeal. I don't see any Islamic values in punishing someone who got raped...

Humza, the Bangldeshi national was just acting like the normal village Muslim, who, while watching this single woman work, considered her "unprotected," and therefore - "fresh meat" - and did what any normal Muslim man would do in the instant.

Camille was wrong to be working so industriously; she was also sinfully attractive, what, being alone, there.

simple matter, really.

Humza, I will take you at your word that you are genuinely shocked by this—I hope you are.

This happens all the time in the Muslim world, though. Girls are "honor killed" for being raped by their own relatives. A little 13-year-old girl was stoned to death in Somalia recently when she reported she was raped.

Reporting a rape is taken as proof of "Zina". Becoming pregnant—even through rape—is taken as proof of "Zina". In Islam, it doesn't matter if the "unlawful sex" was entered into consensually or not.

Sure.....[laughing]

You must absolutely hate having to explain islamic values.

Saudi Arabia is the most Muslim-conservative country on the planet. Their whole country is theocratic. Murdering rape victims is quite common in many Muslim countries through the region- Syria and Yemen being good examples.

If you disagree with this practice then I strongly recommend converting religions or trying to change this practice.

Camille was wrong to be working so industriously; she was also sinfully attractive, what, being alone, there. Or, perhaps she was just plain cheerful like most from that area [Zaboanga Province, excluded] and that's to be discouraged with angry supremacist acts, like, rape ... power act.

simple matter, really.

Don't these people realise that you suspend your membership in the Human Race the instant you enter dar al Islam.

Everybody's gotta get stoned. Or lashed at least. These women wanna go all fresh meat in front of vulnerable young men and tempt them into the felony crime of rape... well, somebody's gotta pay.

Can't wait to see what the American Feminist Brigade has to say on this one. Ellen? Joy? Rosie?

Have the oil billionaires of the House of Saud given any money and assistance to Haiti yet?

According to another article on this, Camille was found to be pregnant upon undergoing the medical exam apparently obligatory for all ex-pats leaving the country. Thereupon she was taken to jail and charged with having had unlawful sex. She miscarried while being held in a Saudi prison (are we surprised?).

Instead of the help that a rape victim would get in the West, along with prenatal consideration and care, this poor soul (who has three children already back in the Phillipines) was arrested and jailed, and who knows what she underwent there.

The sting of Saudi justice is felt most keenly by those most vulnerable -- women, the poor, migrant workers -- and even as we read the other day, 13 year old girls who dare to carry camera phones.

Time to write the Saudi Embassy again:

Saudi Arabia truly is the anus of the planet.

http://newstime.co.nz/2010/sex-in-islam.html
"Sex in islam, facts – Q.24:2 adultery … flog each of them with a hundred stripes!"

"024.002
YUSUFALI: The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment."

I believe that "Islamic values" dictate that if a woman is raped she must do her best to conceal the fact. The rapist must be protected at all cost because to be exposed as a rapist will create for the man intolerable shame. It is not so much that the Koran implicitly condones rape - from what I understand, most Muslims instinctively see rape as wrong - but exposure to shame is worse.
People who believe, as devout Muslims do, that disbelief is a greater crime than murder, have a value system which is difficult to fathom, to put it mildly, but I would say as a rule of thumb that the shame of public exposure is worse than the crime committed and as the shame is borne by the group, the entire Muslim group, whoever is responsible for the shame, however unintentionally, must be punished.
Just one of the many massive, unbridgeable differences between their ways and ours, and the clash of cultures we have brought on ourselves seems to be further entrenching these disparate values.
Chinese culture is similar with their emphasis on "face" and punishment for those who expose wrongdoing - but they are more flexible regarding their culture, as it comes from many sources: Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism etc.

KrazyKafir says,

Saudi Arabia truly is the anus of the planet.

Yep, and the world just laps up their crap called oil.

islam and all of its "perks" are funded and enabled by the crap eating world.

Kinneddar says,

Time to write the Saudi Embassy again

And say what?

Political ambassadorship is dictated by what maintains the status quo.

The status quo today is OIL, a never-ending supply of it to the West and others, as long as the West and others adhere to the status quo.

Get it?

Where is OPRAH?

NO,JUST CAUSE HAITI IS NOT A MUSLIM NATION.THE SAUDIS ARE RACISTS BASTERDS...

I have had a comment "waiting moderation" in response to the pseudo-intellectual article mentioned by Robert for 6 days now.

I'm guessing the fact that I show evidence that at least one country, Pakistan, indeed calls for 4 male witnesses makes mine one comment that they never want to have see the light of day.

Actually, the fact that Islam requires four male witnesses to rape has been mentioned here many times on JW—frequently by Robert Spencer himself.

I have no idea what the situation is with your comment—there may indeed be something in the content, but I think it is as likely to be some sort of technical glitch.

Try posting your comment again and see if it goes through. If there is still a problem, try writing to Jihad Watch and someone—Robert Spencer of Marisol Seibold—will likely get back to you.

Please don't assume that Jihad Watch doesn't want this information to get out—nothing could be further from the truth. The whole purpose of JW is to educate people about this kind of thing.

And you are right—without "four male witnesses", this poor woman will never be able to prove that she was raped—not in a Muslim country, anyway.

And that black box in mecca is 100 km up it.

My comment is awaiting moderation at the site that published the pseudo-intellectual article that purports to show Spencer is wrong; the one Spencer mentions at the start of this post.
