Despite his sister's statement that he is not mentally unbalanced I have my doubts. Whatever the reason behind these murders, it is a fair to raise the question of why does Islam appeal to prisoners, outcasts, and the disinfranchised? I suspect it is for many of the reasons that Marxism was and is still popular with the poor and certain members of the elite like Obama. Although Islam predates Marxism and Hegel(Where Marx, Engels, & Hegel influence by Islam?), Islam possesses a Hegelian-like dialectic placing Muslims vs. non-muslims in perpetual conflict. They use language to change power relationships where the person or group that is less powerful is now the 'victim' and uses language and ideology to empower placing the more powerful group (or the 'other') as evil, impure, decadent, etc.
If you boil it down the picture is very simple. As Marxists like to say, society is divided into classes. Broadly its the 'haves' vs the 'have-nots'. Leftist and Muslim leaders (like Obuma, Lenin, Mao, Mohammed) pretend to fight for the have-nots by justifying the robbery of other people's property. Today, they call robbery social justice. In reality, they are fighting for social injustice - by robbing the virtuous to feed the undeserving bums. That's how they achieve power - which is what they want.

I believe the popularity of Islam comes by its appeal to the humanistic side of our existence. It approves of revenge, lust, murder and all the other human emotions that go contrary to what we are taught in the Bible. Sure there are all of those things in the Bible, but they are historic in nature not commands to be followed. Turning the other cheek and loving your enemy is as foreign to practitioners of Islam as they are to the humanist. If you are feeling vengeful, what religion do you turn to so you can act on that emotion...Islam! Just my point of view.

How tragic. Nothing to add to other posters' comments. It will be interesting to see how the mental illness vs Muslim aspect of this case is played up or down in the ensuing investigation and trial.
