I trust that moderate Muslim spokesmen all over the U.S. are even as I write this hastening to explain that it is not the duty of Muslims to declare jihad against Infidels, and that Al-Qaeda has in this particular gotten Islam all wrong, wrong, wrong, and that they are beginning comprehensive, transparent programs in American mosques and Islamic schools to teach against this idea. War was declared when Byzantine Emperor Herclius refused to become a Muslim. That was about 629 AD. Since the West has not been coverted, the war continues.

Well here the honest Muslim leader is off by a few years and is also mistaken about who started this war.
Actually it was Mohamed who declared war on all Kuffar, and it was Mohamed who divided the world into Dar al Islam and Dar al Harb.

As Diana West says, Al Qaeda is just the brand name: Islam is the generic problem.
The way the West is currently handling this problem may be illustrated by the following analogy. Imagine, just for the sake of the analogy, that medical science had determined that aspirin is in fact dangerous to the body and helps to cause colon cancer. Then imagine that the FDA under the recommendation of the AMA and the Surgeon General only take Bayer aspirin off the shelves, but allowed all other aspirins to be continued to be purchased and ingested by the public.
Then -- my analogy isn't done yet with the full inanity of it all -- imagine that nearly everyone in government and medical science and news media and academe praised generic aspirin to the skies even while at the same time they narrowly condemned Bayer aspirin -- but meanwhile they never offered any rational explanation for this incoherence. Then imagine that recently, at Fort Hood in Texas, over a dozen people died from ingesting aspirin that had no connections to "Bayer" -- just as people all over the world have been dying from aspirins with no apparent affiliation to "Bayer".
And so on. I think I'm getting an Excedrin headache.

Islam is NOT a national entity. It is supposed to be a 'religion'. This is one of the basic causes of the war. The war will not end until this concept is eliminated. As history has demonstrated time and again, elimination of that concept in and of itself will provoke a war.
