Hirsi Ali calls on Americans to fight for the human rights of Muslim women

HirsiAliFeb10.jpgFreedom fighter

Freedom fighter Ayaan Hirsi Ali spoke at the University of Wisconsin-Madison last night, and Rashid Dar, the head of the campus chapter of the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Muslim Students Association, in this article affects a posture of wounded victimhood, claiming that Hirsi Ali -- who was raised a Muslim in a Muslim country -- paints an inaccurate picture of Islam, and whining about that ever-present phantom backlash that never materializes. His name was familiar, so I hunted down my account of my own address at the same university in October 2008. And lo and behold, I found that a young man whom I described as an "arrogant and self-righteous lout" who tried to shout me down was none other than...Rashid Dar.

I expect that besides whining to this reporter, Dar was involved in the shouts of "Allah akbar" that were designed to intimidate Hirsi Ali and disrupt her speech.

This thug-in-training really ought to be disciplined by the university for his continual disruptions of talks by people who tell the truth about Islamic supremacism. But he won't be, of course, because his world view meshes with that of the university administration, and Hirsi Ali's does not.

"Controversial feminist speaks as part of DLS," by Lydia Statz in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Daily Cardinal, February 3:

Former Muslim and feminist speaker Ayaan Hirsi Ali gave a controversial lecture at the Memorial Union Tuesday night as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series.

Over a thousand people endured hour-long lines and airport levels of security to attend the highly-anticipated event in which she delivered a message critical of Muslim society and called for increased freedom for Muslim women all over the world.

Hirsi Ali said she uses her personal experiences as a former Muslim to form her views on the treatment of Muslim women. Originally from Somalia, she fled to the Netherlands to escape an arranged marriage, and began to question much of what she had been taught.

"I had wholeheartedly embraced Islam," Hirsi Ali says of her teenage years. "And yet, there was this deep part of me that rebelled, and I had questions about things that I had no right to ask questions about."

She said those questions included the topics of modest dress for women and the view of women as the property of their husbands. She cited cases in the Arab world and in the U.S. where violence against women was justified through the Qur'an and Islamic teachings in illustrating her argument.

In countries under Islamic rule, Ali said, "It is law to disclude [sic] women from rights and freedoms enjoyed by men. Marriage and divorce, testimony in court, dress, inheritance. In these issues, Islam scripture is implicit that women are inferior to men."

Actually, it's explicit: "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made the one superior to the other..." -- Qur'an 4:34

She issued a call to action for all Americans to fight against what she views as a human rights violation, stating the issue is more significant than most people realize.

"We must use intelligence and reason to confront what I see as one of the world's greatest inequalities: the treatment of Muslim women. This inequality is not only a moral tragedy, but is a threat to global peace."

Her speech met resistance from many in the audience. Shouts of "Allahu Akbar" were heard, which means "God is great" in Arabic.

Rashid Dar, president of the campus Muslim Student Association, says Ali is not giving an accurate picture of Islam or of Muslims, and fears possible ramifications of her speech.
"She's trying to make it seem like Muslims ignore human rights violations. Well, we don't. She oversimplifies and that's at the root of the problem, that's what can become dangerous for us in America," Dar said.

Hirsi Ali said she thanked the University for providing a forum for free speech, but Dar said he questioned the motivations of bringing such an inflammatory speaker to campus.

"Would an anti-Semitic speaker have been brought to this campus? No," He said. "But we accept Islamophobic speakers because we're afraid, and she fits the bill for someone who can confirm our fears. "...

Yes. Nothing to be afraid of. In that I agree with Rashid Dar. The proper response to threats to freedom is not to fear, but to fight. It is time to defend the freedom of speech against people like Rashid Dar, and to stand with Hirsi Ali, Wafa Sultan, Nonie Darwish, and all free people against the oppression of women in Islam, and Islamic supremacism in general.

The answer's simple: let all those Muslim women become Evangelical Christian women.

Hirsi Ali is a superior speaker for women's rights as she lived the life and walked the talk. She must scare the cr-- out of islamists and those buffet feminists because she can
use her life experience and intelect to disarm the ilamists and their appologists. besides when they try to shout her down it is they who appear the bully.

hey wonder if Oprah the most well known feminist in the world can get Hirsi Ali on her tv program?> we need a letter/ email campaign!

Infidels of the world, let's learn some arabic.

Whenever you hear "allahu akbar" (Allah is greatest)

shout back "ALLAHU N'AKBAR" or Allah is the source of our catastrophe!

Excellent. Just to correct you, the Arabic word for "catastrophe" is "naq'bah".

"Would an anti-Semitic speaker have been brought to this campus? No," He said.

*****

Now, the term "Jew" can refer to both race and religion, and in that sense the phrase anti-semitism can be confusing. However, it should be perfectly clear that in the odius history of anti-semitism, Jews were much more likely to be attacked because of race. The Nazis hated Jews primarily because of their bloodline, and much less so because they had theological problems with Judaism. They didn't care whether the jews they persecuted were orthodox, liberal or non-observant--they hated them because of their race. And on that level, I agree that a campus should never host any speaker who discriminates on the basis of race. I would be opposed to any speaker whose main focus was the supposed flaws of Arabs. But race is a VERY different thing from an ideology, religious or otherwise. EVERY ideology should be open to scrutiny, debate, and even vicious attack in a free society. This includes Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Communism, Nazism, Atheism, liberalism, conservatism, and yes....ISLAM! We must all constantly denounce this odius attempt by the Islamic apologists to conflate Islam with a race and thus protect it from the debate every other ideology faces in a free society.....while we still ARE a free society.

Hirsi Ali calls on Americans to fight for the human rights of Muslim women

Now does really state this, lets see

She issued a call to action for all Americans to fight against what she views as a human rights violation, stating the issue is more significant than most people realize.

“We must use intelligence and reason to confront what I see as one of the world’s greatest inequalities: the treatment of Muslim women. This inequality is not only a moral tragedy, but is a threat to global peace.”

Laurence Auster was never a fan of Hirsi Ali. His main criticism, and this he stated years ago, was that Hirsi Ali was not interested in saving Western civilisation, but interested mainly in safeguarding the freedom and life style of Muslim women like herself.

He criticism has been borne out.

Auster, "Central to Ali’s strategy is that it is the West that must reform Islam along the lines she wishes. Muslims come to the West, and not only do they become a major problem and threat in the West, but the “reform” Muslims tell us tell us that WE must change the Islamic world as well because THEY are unable to do it on their own. What a great bargain Muslim immigration is for us".

Kepha
We cant even protect Christians in Iraq, even at the time when we had total authority. How on earth are we defend Muslim women in Islamic countries, beats me.

ISLAM AND HYPERMASCULINITY

Most religions have a softer feminine aspect (eg Virgin Mary) but all trace of the feminine has been eradicated from Islam to give something which is consequently only half human.

Predatory and domineering, Islam is a brutal, hypermasculine, barbarian, tribal warrior cult that glories in murder, mutilation, rape, genocide, terrorism, destruction and anarchy. Women, girls and all the feminine aspects human nature are chattelised and subjugated. Weakness is despised and seen as ripe for predation.

A woman or girl is to be owned, not treated as an equal. If she punctures the fragile inflated ego of her owner, then she must be killed to restore the man's 'honour' among his peers. Kuffar women and children are war booty.

Islam is bullying, swaggering, predatory,wife-beating thuggery, which is the destroyer of all that is beautiful, spiritual, gentle, innocent and vulnerable.

Giving a talk at a 'University' used to be a fine thing to do...Institutions of higher learning and all that...But now days giving a talk at a 'University' is a lot like descending into Hell, and preaching to the demons...I'm not sure it's even worth it...

From article...Shouts of "Allahu Akbar" were heard, which means "God is great" in Arabic.

Over use and mis-use of Allahu Akbar is causing Allah to get a bad name...It is used in murders, rapes, riots, and disruptions (as in the University), but never when a Mahoundian makes a donation to the Catholic Relief Fund...
Look what a problem it causes in airports when Mahoundians start chanting it...No kufr will feel comfortable in a crowded elevator with a 'faithful' shouting Allahu Akbar...
Especially if his pants start smoking...For many kufr, Allahu Akbar means, 'something bad is about to happen'...
or 'Something evil comes this way'...It does not inspire
devotion, but repulsion...By continually using Allahu Akbar in negative ways, Mahoundians are shooting Allah in the foot...It's a good thing Allah knows how to hop around on one foot...He's the only god that can do it...

"In countries under Islamic rule, Ali said, "It is law to disclude [sic] women from rights and freedoms enjoyed by men. Marriage and divorce, testimony in court, dress, inheritance. In these issues, Islam scripture is implicit that women are inferior to men."

Actually, it's explicit: "Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made the one superior to the other..." -- Qur'an 4:34"
-- from the article above

Both the explicit Qur'anic phrase (4.34) of superiority, and other passages in the Qur'an, and in the Hadith (Muhammad's statements) and the Sira (Muhammad's biography), combine to give us what is embodied in the Shari'a, which is the inferior status of women in Islam, one that Muslims in the apology-mode like to deal with by saying "oh, under Islam women were given more property rights than in pre-Islamic Arabia" (which may or may not be true, but in any case is irrelevant as a point of comparison to the status of women in the modern world) and that Muhammad married a "business-woman" (which is meant to indicate what? and if the pre-Islamic world had been such a beastly place until Muhammad came along, then how did a woman become a "business woman" -- think Carly Fiorina, at this point, or Meg Whitman).

The inferior status of women in Islam is stated, explicitly and implicitly, all over the place in the texts, and in the commentaries on the texts: their subservience to men in marriage, where polygamy is permitted, polyandry unthinkable, and monogamy -- sometimes a reflection of economic status -- easily dealt with by means of the "portable divorce-court" (no fees, no lawyers, no waiting) of triple-talaq, their half-worth when blood-money is to b e calculated according to the Shari'a hudud, the lessons on how to "beat them" when they need it, and so on. but through the triple-talaq the man is soon shed of the woman, and it's on to pastures new for fresh tilthing as you wish).

There's a beautiful phrase, known to every American -- it must by now be practically half the population -- who has gone to Law School and taken first-year Contracts. It's from a case about the meaning of "best efforts" and detrimental reliance and stuff like that, and it comes from Judge Cardozo's opinion in Wood v. Lucy, Lady Duff-Gordon." The title of the case alone is hard to forget, nor the human interest of its contents. But I digress.

The phrase is this: "instinc with obligation" and the use of the word "instinct" here is perfect when applied to Islam.

Islam is "instinct with" the idea of men's superiority to women, and their fitness to order them about. Islam, for that matter, is "instinct with" permanent hostility toward Infidels, and the rightness of Muslim rule over the whole earth, including the lands where Infidels now live heedless of the Muslim threat, or the Muslim texts and tenets.

What? You are one of those who hasn't gone to Law School? It's okay, just look up Wood v. Lucy, Lady Duff Gordon on-line. It will only take you a few minutes to read.

"...She's trying to make it seem like Muslims ignore human rights violations. Well, we don't..."

They may not ignore it, but they certainly keep silent about it.

Let's see, what did muhammad say about silence?

Oh, yeah he said, "Silence is consent."

(Bukhari v9,b86,n98)

Imagine a fallen-away Catholic speaking about their issues with the Church, or an anti-Israeli Jew coming to denounce the Israeli state, etc - would "airport-level security" be needed in any of these cases? The thought is laughable...

"Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made the one superior to the other..." -- Qur'an 4:34

And in Saudi Arabia, they apply this principle in numerous ways, such as requiring that women must have the permission of their male guardian simply to move from one location to another.

The story of Nazia Quazi, a 24-year-old Muslim woman, appears to be another example of this. She's a Canadian citizen, a graduate of the University of Ottawa, who is being held by her Canadian Muslim father in Saudi Arabia. Her father is her "sponsor" or "guardian," and Nazia alleges that he won't let her leave and that he has used physical violence and threats. Saudi officials will not let her leave because they require the father's permission.

Help Me get back to Canada From Saudi Arabia
By Nazia Quazi

Rashid Dar, president of the campus Muslim Student Association, says Ali is not giving an accurate picture of Islam or of Muslims, and fears possible ramifications of her speech.
"She's trying to make it seem like Muslims ignore human rights violations. Well, we don't. She oversimplifies and that's at the root of the problem, that's what can become dangerous for us in America," Dar said.

Just can't say that the Qur'an doesn't ignore human rights, can you Rashid? And, of course, someone who was born and raised a Muslim must not be able to give "an accurate picture of Islam or of Muslims". It must be that sudden loss of memory that everyone who leaves Islam must suffer from.

Again, I urge both Muslim and kuffar to read Ms. Ali's book "Infidel". Don't believe Rashid Dar and other Muslim apologists. Don't believe me. Read "Infidel" and decide for yourself. Read the Qur'an. Read an honest biography of Mohammed. Read the history of the jihad. Remember the fate of the Armenians. Remember what is happening to kuffars who live in Islamic lands right now.

I'm don't agree there is a relationship between Ali's message and that of an anti-Semitic speaker. It sounds too much like "Well, if everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you, too?" Making such a statement implies that the public is absolutely incapable of deciding on its own version of right and wrong. Oftentimes, such an analogy is used in lieu of rational argument to inspire a brain-stem reaction of shock, fear, disgust, etc. Listening to a message that you disagree with is just as important as listening to one you are familiar with -- leaving the safety of your own self-made opinions is a necessary act for gaining wisdom, frustrating as it may be. Understanding doesn't mean you condone the ideas; far from it. It merely gives you information you would need to properly disagree with someone else in an effective and rational manner. You disagree with Ms. Ali? Don't counter with anger, violence, and the very nature of which she is raising awareness. The dissenting members of the audience should write as well, about how they feel Islam doesn't support the mistreatment of women, how they would interpret the passages in the Qur'an that say specifically it is okay to hit your wife, and describe how their own culture has been successful in integrating women into a society that supports both equality for all people AND a successful reconciliation between that and their religious faith. Can they do that? Are there good models? Proof is more convincing than incendiary shouts from the audience. If there is no proof, then I suggest people look at the evidence in front of them and reflect on their own perspectives.

Excuse me but there is NO Jewish race! In matter of fact there are NO races of humans! There is ONLY the HUMAN RACE, period!

Calling the the Jews a race is regurgitating NAZI anti_Semitic garbage. Being a Jew is a culture, a life style and NOT a religion! Another ignorant mistake made by those who have NO real understanding of the tribe or it's REAL history and traditions!

Thank you, I think we're all aware that all humans are of the same species. While the scientific basis of race may be difficult to categorically define, it's still undeniable that various ethnic groups display inherited physical characteristics that differentiate them from other ethnic groups. This isn't ideology, it's fact. Furthermore, humans have historically discriminated against other ethnic groups based on both real and imagined inherited traits of these various ethnic groups. I suppose you can argue that the word "race" isn't accurate, but it's ludicrous to argue that these differences don't exist, and to further deny that humans have discriminated based on these differences. If you don't like the word race, then I'll rephrase my point:
It's wrong to denigrate a group of people based on the perceived inherited characteristics of said group; it's perfectly okay to denigrate a group of people based on the ideology and worldview that that group chooses to espouse.

Aggressive Muslims like Rashid Dar are bullies. There is only one way to deal with a bully and that's to intimidate him right back. It is evident that universities like the media and politicians are not going to stand up for non- muslims even when their rights as American citizens are being violated. Thus it falls on the people to stand up for those rights themselves.Just imagine what would happen if a group of people had grabbed Rashid punched his lights out and threw him out. In all likely hood he would keep his mouth shut next time. If not another punching out would have reinforced the message. Right now non muslims are far and away in the majority. Stand up and force down agressive Muslims before America looks and becomes like Europe. Don't think it can't happen here because it can and it is .

Excuse me but there is NO Jewish race! In matter of fact there are NO races of humans! There is ONLY the HUMAN RACE, period!

There most certainly are "races" of humans. If there weren't, all people would look alike, speak the same language, have the same culture, and "racism" wouldn't exist.

It's wonderful to see Hirsi Ali speaking again.

Does anyone know if she is living in the United States again at this point?

Question: does one's genetic makeup irrevocably determine one's language and culture?

It seems to me that language and culture, unlike the colour of one's skin or one's eyes or the configuration of one's bone structure, are not irrevocably and immutably coded into one's DNA from the moment of conception.

Otherwise I would have been born already able to speak...what? Gaelic, like my Irish and Scots ancestors? Danish, like my Danish ancestors? English? German? Or all five, given that I have ancestors from all five groups? And I wouldn't be able to learn any other language. Whereas in fact, any human infant - though naturally it has a head start on its mother tongue, not because of its dna but because of its intra-uterine exposure to its mother's speech sounds - is born perfectly capable of learning any one of the six to ten thousand languages currently spoken on earth.

And if 'culture' were indissolubly linked to 'race', to the genetic peculiarities of this subset or that of humanity, nobody (let alone whole groups, as has happened historically - see Ireland, see Armenia) would ever change their religion or philosophy, because that too would be inborn. Ayaan is living proof that even birth into the midst of an obsessively-brainwashing totalitarian culture does not mean that one *must* inevitably reproduce that culture.

As far as biological 'races' go: I understand that, from a geneticist's point of view, modern humans are one of the least variable species on planet earth..not as dangerously genetically homogenous as cheetahs, but near enough that inbreeding is, for us, a very very bad idea. We're working from a *very* limited palette.

OF course one's genetic makeup does not determine one's language and culture. The point I was trying to make is that we are not all identical in appearance nor do we all share the same culture and language. I did not elaborate because this is such a touchy subject but I do believe that there are distinct "races" of people. I do not believe that there is any one superior race.

Look, we can't have it both ways and say that race doesn't exist and at the same time practice identity politics, affirmative action, protection for special interest minority groups, multiculturalism, and diversity mania. If race does not exist, there would be no discrimination, racism, hate crimes, etc., and the Congressional Black Caucus, La Raza, Hispanic Caucus, would not exist to advocate for people of certain races. The United States would not be obsessed with racial disparity to the point of discriminating against the white majority to atone for past injustices against blacks.

Anthropologists began shying away from identifying certain peoples by their physical characteristics in the seventies, describing them as groups who shared "culture" and "language". It's quite apparent that Asian people have different physical characteristics than Caucasians and they also have different cultures and languages. They can adapt to other cultures and learn other languages; all people can. As I have stated many times, whites comprise less than ten percent of the global population and do not tend to migrate to areas with predominately black, Asian, or Arab populations. Yet our countries are being flooded with non-white immigrants for the sole purpose of ensuring that in a short time, there will be no "white" nations. Why is that?
