Over one-third of the attempted and successful Jihad attacks on American soil since 9/11 took place in 2009. This sharp uptick comes at a time when conservative organizations and media figures are talking about jihad and its root causes in Islamic texts and teachings less frequently and less honestly than at any time since 9/11. At the same time, there is a global initiative at the UN and elsewhere to muzzle critics of Islam, criminalizing even honest discussion of the Islamic doctrines that terrorists use to justify jihad violence and Islamic supremacism.
Now I am happy to announce that Pamela Geller and I have created an organization to stand up against this silence that threatens our existence and renders us defenseless as our freedoms and way of life are eroded away. We are launching the Freedom Defense Initiative, a new activist group, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) 2010, with a conference entitled Jihad: The Political Third Rail - What They Are Not Telling You.
This conference will be held at the Mariott Wardman Park Hotel, the site of CPAC, on February 19 from 10AM to Noon. It is at the site of CPAC, but is an independent event, not a CPAC event. Last year when Pamela Geller brought Geert Wilders to CPAC, over 700 good Americans were introduced to this century's Winston Churchill. This year the objective is to educate Americans, activists, and freedom lovers about U.S. Muslim Brotherhood organizations' complete intellectual dominance at high levels of the Pentagon, FBI, CIA, the Justice Department, et al, and the ongoing war against free speech about Islamic jihad.

The Freedom Defense Initiative (FDI):
The Freedom Defense Initiative is a new organization launched by Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer. Our objective is to go on the offensive when legal, academic, legislative, cultural, sociological, and political actions are taken to dismantle our basic freedoms and values.
FDI acts against the treason being committed by national, state, and local government officials, the mainstream media, and others in their capitulation to the global jihad and Islamic supremacism, the ever-encroaching and unconstitutional power of the federal government, and the rapidly moving attempts to impose socialism and Marxism upon the American people.
It acts against these evils by:
• Organizing grass root small groups at the local level to fight specific Islamic supremacist initiatives in American cities - e.g., the November 2009 Rally for Rifqa Bary in Columbus, Ohio, which called attention to the dangers apostates from Islam live under, and to the threats to religious freedom that are advancing in the U.S. right now;
• Sponsoring anti-jihad bus and billboard campaigns to counter CAIR's pro-Islamic bus and billboard campaigns;

This initiative resulted in memorials being constructed for Aqsa in Canada and Israel, and heightened awareness in the West of the horror of Islamic honor killing;
• Supporting Geert Wilders and others who are fighting attacks on free speech by the Leftist/Islamic alliance;
• Promoting candidates who understand state's rights and the necessity to limit the power of the federal government [as legal status permits];
• Promoting candidates who fight against the march of Islamic supremacists [as legal status permits];
• Calling attention to specific acts of capitulation and collaboration to Islamic supremacism by government and law enforcement officials, and pressing for the reprimand and removal of those officials;
• Targeting infiltrators of our federal agencies and seeking their removal;
• Articulating and defending a firm Constitutional basis for genuine limitations on the federal government and the rights of the individual states;
• Defending the value of private ownership and firmly opposing the nationalization of U.S. industries
• Defending the rights of the private citizen and opposing everything that increases his status of serfdom to the state.
To achieve these ends the Freedom Defense Initiative will:
• Act through the existing Atlas Shrugs and Jihad Watch websites (which had a combined 22 million page views in the last twelve months) to raise awareness of pertinent issues, using our base (Jihad Watch 30,000 page views per day, Atlas 25,000 page views per day, combined page views two million per month) to build a movement;
• Create state organizations that address these issues on a local level (Atlas and Jihad Watch readers will likely head up sub-organizations in each state identifying local issues, targeting specific situations, and developing action plans to fight on the local level);
• Issue Action Alerts through the not inconsiderable reach of Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrugs, calling people to take a specific action -- whether it be to contact their representatives, write against a nominee (i.e., Harold Koh), attend a hearing, call a rally, etc.
• Conduct live coverage of key political, social, and historic events (i.e., the Republican National Convention, and important local, state, and national elections)
• Hold seminars featuring as speakers key defenders of freedom;
• Host conferences that educate Americans about Leftist indoctrination and Islam's quest for domination;
• Host rallies to demonstrate the awareness and power of the American citizen;
• Publish books that support our objectives;
• Act through all possible means to create a large-scale resistance to the forces that are moving rapidly to destroy American Constitutionalism and capitalism.
• Turn readers into effective activists who build their own networks in their communities. They either run or put up candidates to run in school boards, precincts, to get back that what was squandered. All politics is local -- and that's where we must start.

Im glad to see some action being taken to confront and counter the islamic threat.
I beleive it will take a special thinker who can come up with clandestine operations whose goal is to result in some kind of confrontation with islamic forces.
I beleive these "confrontations" are one of the best tools we can use. It seems when confrontation happens between the west and islam, it exposes the true nature of each camp.
Good vs Evil
For example. The danish cartoons.
Something as simple as cartoons managed to rile up the whole islamic world. Riots, murders, abuses, etc....this is the true face of islam. Now think, if all it takes is some silly cartoons to set the islamic world ablaze...which seems to have a positive effect for the west (besides the damages) and a negative effect for islam. The positve effect for the west is....it gives us a visual of our enemy.
Much like when an enemy combatant fires a shot it exposes his location.
The negative effect on islam is that, it shows how easy it is to get a reaction from islam. And this reaction can be used by us...to further dismantle or discredit muslims.
It exposes the very doctrines of the Quran, because when the muslims refer to the Quran to jusify or to condemn, we are shown the true nature of islam.
Just as muslims feel like they "know" the west. We too, can "know" islam. And that can be used against them.
For example: A scenerio in which the purpose is to strengthen free speech, and weaken islams punch against free speech.
Recruit packs of students, 1-3 per group. Their goal is to at their University...put up a huge poster, depicting islam or muslims in a way that is controversal. Do this simutaneously throughout many universities, if there is enough reaction then it will make the news, and so the plan needs to be sculpted according to how the muslims are going to react. Its like knowing where your enemy will go and preparing a trap for him to walk into.

Combining the power of jihadwatch.org with atlasshrugs.org is a great idea.
Maybe we could take this even further by soliciting members from other like-minded groups like the NRA.
Another suggestion would be that we single out the two or three most important issues (ei. defeating/eradicating political correctness, identifying and pressing for the removal of government and law enforcement officials who have carried out acts of capitulation and collaboration to Islamic supremicists, etc.) and set up groups formed of members of our organization best suited to deal with each of these separately so that, for instance, the group set up to deal with eradicating political correctness would be staffed by people particularly suited to deal with that.

Was surprised the FDI was not linked in any way to the David Horowitz Freedom Center (of which JW is organically linked)...and that David is not among the speakers. I realize he's west coast and the FDI launch is in Washington. But I was just wondering, is the DHFC helping with the financing or any other way?

One of the things I have learned from this forum is not the power of the USA but its surprising vulnerability.
To my mind Alan Moir in his recent SMH cartoon - the one that depicted the USA as an exhausted-looking Obama-GI with Iraq and Afghanistan in his knapsack weighing him down, peering in bewilderment at a new bait labelled 'Yemen' which is intended to draw him into a dark cave full of jihadist ogres - expressed quite movingly the real vulnerability of America at present, and our own deep fear as we see America staggering and confused.
Every part of the free non-Muslim world has an interest in seeing other parts of it - especially those parts that have traditionally led and fought - strengthened and not weakened, and clear-headed rather than confused, in the face of the Jihad onslaught.
The USA stands to the rest of the non-Muslim world today, I think, as Byzantium did throughout much of the first thousand years of the Jihad. Big, rich, beautiful, the epitome of everything un-Islamic. (India of course was another ancient and major target, and remains a target today; but practical prudence decrees, given the fact that the USA still has far fewer Muslims within its gates than India does, that it is better to try to try to turn the USA around first).
Non-American free peoples are today able to do much more to help the USA, than the western latin world could ever have done to help Byzantium, during those thousand years: communication and travel are so much easier and quicker and resources and morale-raising encouragement can flow swiftly in from the rest of us to those on the front line against Jihad.
The Muslim world seems currently to have identified as its primary targets, two nations in particular - the USA (as a modern equivalent of Byzantium, almost), and Israel. One Christian, one Jewish. One very large, one very small.
It is the business of all jihad-aware non-Muslims to support those on the front line, the ones with the really big targets painted on their shirts.
At grassroots level, on campus, in letters to the editor, in our churches and social networks and workplaces, actively countering the 'let's hate America' crew in Australia, Europe and elsewhere, is just as vital for the long-term resistance to Jihad, as is active confrontation of the 'let's hate Israel' crew.
Islam seeks perpetually to 'split the camp'; to exploit and to make worse any existing resentments, divisions and discontents or to create such, if they don't already exist; Bat Yeor in Eurabia touched upon the Arab Muslim campaign to divide Europe and the rest of the 'westernised' world (e.g. Australia and Canada) from America and Israel, to divide America from Israel, to re-invoke the demon of antisemitism at a time when many Christians had made a serious effort to get rid of it. (And, btw, we should be on the watch for, and finding ways to undo, Muslim attempts to derail the growing rapprochement between 1. Israel and India and 2. India and the Anglophone world, especially, India and the USA).
It's the business of the Islamosavvy to do everything we can to expose and defeat such fomentings of hate and suspicion.

how does this initiative relate to Brigitte Gabriel's ACT for America?
Although it was not explicitly stated, I would assume that Freedom Defense Initiative will not seek a 501(c)(3) status, thereby preserving its ability to become more actively engaged in the political process, rather than simply serving as an educational organization?
Assuming so, such an organization opens new opportunities for action and will not merely duplicate the current efforts of Jihad Watch and Atlas Shrugs.
Of course, all of this will take money, which will be difficult to raise during a recession, especially if it is not tax deductible. It is too bad our supporters do not own most of the world's oil reserves. But we need to try this anyway, because educational efforts may be insufficient to counter the organized and well-funded political project which is Islam. And, of course, Islamic organizations gets the 501(c)(3) status and tax-deductible contributions by passing themselves off as religions or charities.
I (and Tanstaafl) posted a comment below (see http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/02/man-who-says-he-spied-on-mosques-for-fbi-files-lawsuit-against-the-feds.html#comments ) suggesting the idea of setting up an organization which would seek a 501(c)(3) status and which would have the mission of bringing suits on behalf of victims of jihadist activities, against Islamic organizations which aid and abet violent acts, and seeking to collect judgments which would bankrupt those organizations. That would also take significant start-up funding, but it is conceivable that such an organization could collect a share of damages in successful litigation in order to fund the continuation of its work. Civil litigation worked against the Ku Klux Klan and similar organizations.

To the above posted question.... I am wondering also why this is any different than ACT! for America. Practically everything under the heading..."To achieve these ends the Freedom Defense Initiative will:" in the description of FDI is already set up by ACT! via its 80,000 members and 365 (and growing) national chapters today. It's not a "will" its a reality all set up and running.
ACT! also has affiliates in other countries. ACT! Canada..ACT! Australia etc..
As a businessman/activist/donor I just like efficiency of labor and resources...AND helping to build the NRA of National Security....ONE really BIG loud voice that ACT!'s lobbyist on Capital Hill can shout with and local and state officials hear from. Not a lot of jabs from different directions, but one BIG (NRA style) punch we can hit them with over and over.
Just as ACT! promotes the initiatives of others out there on the front lines by mobilizing its members to get out and support them with time and money, I suggest Pam and Bob that you tell your readers that if they want to be hands on in the fight, to join ACT! and be ON the front lines TOMORROW with a national staff and resources to support them. Why reinvent the wheel????
