Rushdie death fatwa turns 21

satanic_verses.jpg
Rushdie didn't make them up

Most people associate Valentine's Day with romance, but for Salman Rushdie, I expect it has vastly different associations. On February 14, 1989, Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa, ordering Muslims to kill Rushdie for writing his book The Satanic Verses -- and this death sentence has been perpetually reaffirmed by Iranian leaders, though no assassin has yet carried it out.

It was the first salvo in what has become an all-out Islamic war against the freedom of speech.

Rushdie did not invent the "Satanic verses." The term actually refers to an incident, recorded in Islamic tradition and referred to in Sura 53, in which Satan, not Allah, spoke through Muhammad's mouth. The verses that the devil gave to the Prophet of Islam have been known thereafter as "the Satanic verses."

According to Muhammad's biographer Ibn Ishaq, in a section of his biography preserved by Tabari, "the apostle was anxious for the welfare of his people" -- the pagan Quraysh -- and "longed for a way to attract them." However, ultimately it was the leaders of the Quraysh who came to him with an offer. They would give him wives and money, and even make him their king -- if he would in turn accept their condition. "This is what we will give you, Muhammad, so desist from reviling our gods and do not speak evilly of them. If you will not do so, we offer you one means which will be to your advantage and to ours."

"What is it?" asked Muhammad.

"You will worship our gods, al-Lat and al-'Uzza, for a year, and we shall worship your god for a year."

After initially rejecting the offer, Muhammad received a revelation saying that it was legitimate for Muslims to pray to al-Lat, al-Uzza, and Manat, the three goddesses favored by the pagan Quraysh, as intercessors before Allah. The Quraysh were elated, and prostrated themselves before Allah along with Muhammad and the Muslims after Muhammad finished reciting the new revelation. Ibn Ishaq recounts:

Then the people dispersed and Quraysh went out, delighted at what had been said about their gods, saying, "Muhammad has spoken of our gods in splendid fashion. He alleged in what he read that they are the exalted Gharaniq whose intercession is approved."

The Gharaniq were high-flying cranes. Muhammad meant that they were near Allah's throne, and that it was legitimate for Muslims to pray to al-Lat, al-Uzza, and Manat as intercessors before Allah.

Word traveled quickly among the Muslims: "the Quraysh have accepted Islam." Since peace seemed to be at hand, some of the Muslims who had earlier fled to Abyssinia for their safety began to return. But one principal player in the drama was not at all pleased: the angel Gabriel, the one whose appearance to Muhammad had given birth to Islam. He came to Muhammad and said: "What have you done, Muhammad? You have read to these people something I did not bring you from God and you have said what He did not say to you."

Muhammad began to realize just how severely he had compromised his monotheistic message: "I have fabricated things against God and have imputed to Him words which He has not spoken." He "was bitterly grieved and was greatly in fear" of Allah for having allowed his message to be adulterated by Satan. But Allah reassured him: "Never did We send a messenger or a prophet before thee, but, when he framed a desire, Satan threw some vanity into his desire: but Allah will cancel anything vain that Satan throws in, and Allah will confirm and establish His Signs" (Qur'an 22:52). Allah, says Ibn Ishaq, thereby "relieved his prophet's grief, and made him feel safe from his fears." He also sent down a new revelation to replace Satan's words about al-Lat, al-Uzza, and Manat in sura 53, repeating the scorn that the Qur'an has elsewhere for the idea that Allah would have daughters while earthly men have sons (vv. 19-23).

Not surprisingly, Muhammad's about-face only enflamed tensions with the Quraysh all the more. Ibn Ishaq recalls that the polytheists began to use this episode against him:

When the annulment of what Satan had put upon the Prophet's tongue came from God, Quraysh said: "Muhammad has repented of what he said about the position of your gods with Allah, altered it and brought something else." Now those two words which Satan had put upon the apostle's tongue were in the mouth of every polytheist and they became more violently hostile to the Muslims and the apostle's followers.

The Satanic verses incident has naturally caused Muslims acute embarrassment for centuries. Indeed, it casts a shadow over the veracity of Muhammad's entire claim to be a prophet. After all, if Satan could put words into Muhammad's mouth once, and make him think they were revelations from Allah, who is to say that Satan did not use Muhammad as his mouthpiece on other occasions? Thus Islamic scholars, apologists, and historians have attacked the Satanic verses with particular ferocity. Muhammad Husayn Haykal argues in his Life of Muhammad that the incident never happened at all, and indeed could not have happened, for after all, Muhammad is a prophet:

This story arrested the attention of the western Orientalists who took it as true and repeated it ad nauseam.... It is a story whose incoherence is evident upon the least scrutiny. It contradicts the infallibility of every prophet in conveying the message of his Lord.

He marvels that even some Muslim scholars take it to be true. And its roots in the traditional sources are firm. It is hard to see how and why such a story would have been fabricated and accepted as authentic by such pious Muslims as Ibn Ishaq, Ibn Sa'd, and Tabari, as well as by the later Qur'anic commentator Zamakhshari (1074-1143), who is unlikely to have recounted it if he did not trust the sources, if it were not authentic. Here, as in many other areas, the witness of the early Islamic sources is compelling. Those who would wish away the Satanic verses cannot get around the fact that these elements of Muhammad's life were not the inventions of his enemies, but were passed along by men who believed he was indeed the Prophet of Allah.

And now, so many centuries later, they are still a point of hot contention. Whether the freedom of speech in the West will survive the assault upon it that began with the Rushdie fatwa is anybody's guess.

It says volumes about Islam and the Moslems that all the foulness, mayhem, and brutality in the Koran is accepted as the veritable word of their god; but the innocuous few lines about the existence of intercessionary goddesses is rejected as the work of Satan.

I actually read "The Satanic Verses" a couple years ago. I checked it out from the library and was the first person to ever check it out. It was hard to read. I would not have struggled through it is it were not for the Fatwa. the biggest thing I took away from the book is the existence of the two Satanic verses in the Quran. The logic of the Muslim explanation of their existence is beyond my capability to believe. Two verses were inspired by Satan, only two. Then God saw fit to correct the Quran when Mohammed's disciples complained about polytheism. It all seemed a little to convoluted for me.
I am certain this book would be the rubble pile of history if not for the Fatwa.
The Ayatollah Khomeini needed an enemy to take pressure off of himself so he chose to make a point of this book and Rushdie.

Very informative post, Robert!

The translation of the Koran I use has an endnote (by J.M. Rodwell) on Sura 53, Verse 19, that reads "When at the first recital of this Sura, the prophet had reached this verse, he continued, 'These are the exalted females, [or, sublime swans, i.e. mounting nearer and nearer to God] And truly their intercession may be expected."

Currently, 53:19-23 read, "Do you see Al-Lat and Al-Ozza, And Manat the thir idol besides? What? shall ye have male progeny and God female?"

The replacement text isn't much "better" theologically-speaking than the original. It dismisses Al-Lat, Al-Ozza, and Manat on the grounds that they are female, not on the grounds that there is no god but Allah.

If Muhammad's Satan is a polytheist, Muhammad's Allah is a sexist. (Not exactly breaking news here, I know.)

It was quite a successful assault on freedom of speech at the time - self-censorship concerning topics touching on Muslim sensibilities has been the rule for writers and publishers in the UK ever since:

"... the United Kingdom was the country where violence against bookstores occurred most often and persisted the longest. Two large bookstores in Charing Cross Road, London,(Collets and Dillons) were bombed on April 9 [1989]. In May, explosions went off in the town of High Wycombe and again in London, on Kings Road. Other bombings include one at a large London department store (Liberty's), in connection with the Penguin Bookshop inside the store, and at the Penguin store in York. Unexploded devices were found at Penguin stores in Guildford, Nottingham, and Peterborough.
The bombings meant that hardly a single bookstore sold Rushdie's novel openly in the UK.In many others which carried the book, it was kept under the counter."

"I have fabricated things against God and have imputed to Him words which He has not spoken."

perhaps the only time Mohammed ever did tell the truth
I read the book long before I knew the truth of ISLAM & it's attacks against us, in fact the book presented a very understanding compassionate version of MUSLIMS, which at the time, I accepted. It is also a FICTIONAL story- the VERSES appear in a dream sequence not as FACTS- so the fatwa against SALMAN came to me a shock- of course since 9-11 Ihave researched ISLAM and found all of it quite shocking and more disgusting than I ever imageined. At one time I accepted the lie of all three Abrahamic faiths having commonality. The reality I discovered is more terrifying than any fiction...A fan of your site, long time lurker

Fascinating debate, what is the religion of peace? Islam or Christianity? Jay Smith takes on the muslims on Hyde Park, Speaker’s Corner in London, every Sunday.

"...this death sentence has been perpetually reaffirmed by Iranian leaders, though no assassin has yet carried it out." --from Robert's article.

1. The word "yet" is important.

2. Note that dozens of others have been killed in relation to this fatwa against Rushdie.

Some apologetics in the Wikipedia article:

"[...] According to Bernard Lewis, a death warrant without trial, defense, etc. violates Islamic jurisprudence. In Islamic fiqh, apostasy by a mentally sound adult male is indeed a capital crime, however, Fiqh also:
"... lays down procedures according to which a person accused of an offense is to be brought to trial, confronted with his accuser, and given the opportunity to defend himself. A judge will then give a verdict and if he finds the accused guilty, pronounce sentence…
Even the most rigorous and extreme of the classical jurist only require a Muslim to kill anyone who insults the Prophet in his hearing and in his presence. They say nothing about a hired killing for a reported insult in a distant country.[65]""

Lewis neglects to mention that there is no penalty in Islamic law for killing a critic ("blasphemer") or a publicly-declared apostate. Thus, Islam essentially has put in place a permanent "open season" with regards to killing, attacking, and threatening apostates and blasphemers. Muhammad specifically absolved a man who killed a woman, on the grounds that the man said he killed her because she criticized Muhammad. (Note: Contra Lewis, the woman did not insult Muhammad in his presence; Muhammad absolved the man entirely based on the man's allegations).

Lewis also may have been confused about his Islamic jurisprudence. Shia jurisprudence as practiced in Iran does allow killing of people in foreign countries who "insult" Islam. (And who's to say that the Ayatollahs did not in fact have some kind of "trial" or review process of Rushdie in absentia--satisfactory to themselves--before issuing the fatwa?). Moreover, such "insults" effectively break any truce or dhimma arrangement, giving Muslims the permission to wage violent jihad in response.

Lewis' appeal to proper jurisprudence is also a little strange-seeming to me. To imply that there is anything fair or just in such trials, or that the accused would really be able to launch anything like a real defence, or indeed that the defence would be given any weight, seems absurd and unwarranted. We are talking about a system whereby some people are permitted to kill others in response to mere criticism. The only practical difference between the Rushdie affair and a proper classical Islamic sharia procedure of the sort Lewis mentions is that, in the latter, Rushdie would almost certainly have been put to death.

"allah"? "muhammad"? "koran"?

Doesn't it blow anybody's mind that "this"? is SO important to one billion lives?

What a tragedy for the entire planet.

The Muslim diety All*h allows/condones or requires: rape, gang rape, slavery, sex slavery, wives beating, lying, theft, robbery, kidnapping, ransom, extortion, torture, terrorism, amputation, murder etc.

One has to wonder how the evil devil would differ from this Islamic All*h.

Like Evil? You'll Love Islam! Like Rape? You'll Love Islam! Like Sex Slaves? You'll Love Islam!

Most disturbing of all, most Muslims today believe that those who criticize Islam should be criminally prosecuted and punished, and the standard punishments today are harsh, including long jail sentences or the death penalty.

More about the fatwa, from the Wikipedia article:

"Broadcast on Iranian radio, the judgement read:
"In the name of God the Almighty. We belong to God and to Him we shall return. I would like to inform all intrepid Muslims in the world that the author of the book Satanic Verses, which has been compiled, printed, and published in opposition to Islam, the Prophet, and the Qur'an, and those publishers who were aware of its contents, are sentenced to death. [52]
Although Khomeini did not give the legal reasoning for his judgment, it is thought to be based on the ninth chapter of the Qur’an, called At-Tawba, verse 61: “Some of them hurt the prophet by saying, 'He is all ears!' Say, 'It is better for you that he listens to you. He believes in GOD, and trusts the believers. He is a mercy for those among you who believe.' Those who hurt GOD's messenger have incurred a painful retribution.”[53]"

While 9:61 might have been one of the verses taken into consideration, the charge of being "...in opposition to Islam, the prophet, and the Qur'an..." seems to take into account verses such as 5:33, which refers to a range of harsh penalties, including death, for those who "spread mischief/corruption" and/or "wage war" against Allah and his prophet. Both Sunni and Shia commentators have defined these phrases broadly as encompassing numerous forms of "opposition" to Islam. The Iranian regime gives the death penalty for "corruption/mischief on earth" and "waging war" against "Allah and his prophet." Note that the Iranian regime includes non-violent "offenses," such as Islamic criticism, under these categories.

In any case, 9:11-12 orders Muslims to fight (kill) the heads of disbelief who revile Islam with criticism. In addition, as with the apostasy penalty, there are ahadith in which Muslims are ordered to kill or behead those who criticize Islam or Muhammad, and to "strike off the head" of anyone who disputes a single verse in the Quran.

Still other verses in the Quran have been cited as consistent with the death penalty for blasphemy.

51:8. Certainly, you have different ideas (about Muhammad SAW and the Qur'an).
51:9. Turned aside therefrom (i.e. from Muhammad SAW and the Qur'an) is he who is turned aside (by the Decree and Preordainment of Allah).
51:10. *Cursed be the liars,
51:11. Who are under a cover of heedlessness (think not about the gravity of the Hereafter),
51:12. They ask; "When will be the Day of Recompense?"
51:13. (It will be) a Day when they will be tried (i.e. burnt) over the Fire!
51:14. "Taste you your trial (burning)! This is what you used to ask to be hastened!"

*"Qutila alkharrasoona" Arberry 51:10. "Perish the conjecturers"
qutila, i.e., 'killed'

Death penalty or not, some verses are consistent with an earthly penalty, and of no protection for blasphemers:

11:18. Who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie concerning Allah? Such will be brought before their Lord, and the witnesses will say: These are they who lied concerning their Lord. Now the curse of Allah is upon wrong-doers, 11:19 Who debar (men) from the way of Allah and would have it crooked, and who are disbelievers in the Hereafter. 11:20 Such will not escape in the earth, nor have they any protecting friends beside Allah. For them the torment will be double. They could not bear to hear, and they used not to see. 11:21 Such are they who have lost their souls, and that which they used to invent hath failed them.

22:8. And among mankind is he who disputeth concerning Allah without knowledge or guidance or a scripture giving light,
22:9. Turning away in pride to beguile (men) from the way of Allah. For him in this world is ignominy*, and on the Day of Resurrection We make him taste the doom of burning.

*other transl. say disgrace, humiliation. Note that, to allow an Islam critic to get away with "insulting" Islam and Muhammad with impunity in this life would be to passively allow the Quran to be false. The Quran, Hadith, and Islamic law of course command Muslims to do what they can to make things right Islamically in this world, taking an active role in commanding the right and forbidding the wrong.

From the Hadith:

Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 38, Number 4348
“Narrated Abdullah Ibn Abbas: A blind man had a slave-mother who used to abuse the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and disparage him. He forbade her but she did not stop. He rebuked her but she did not give up her habit. One night she began to slander the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and abuse him. So he took a dagger, placed it on her belly, pressed it, and killed her. A child who came between her legs was smeared with the blood that was there. When the morning came, the prophet (p.b.u.h) was informed about it. He assembled the people and said: I adjure by Allah the man has done this action and adjure him by my right to him that he should stand up. Jumping over the necks of the people and trembling the man stood up. He sat before the prophet (p.b.u.h) and said: Apostle of Allah! I am here master; she used to abuse you and disparage you. I forbade her but she did not stop, and I rebuked her, but she did not abandon her habit. I have two sons like pearls from her, and she was my companion. Last night she began to abuse and disparage you. So I took a dagger, put it at her belly and pressed it till I killed her. Thereupon the prophet (p.b.u.h) said: Oh be witness, no retaliation is payable for her blood”.

Glen Thyrion, I share some of your feelings about _The Satanic Verses_. You probably have to be British of South Asian Muslim heritage to appreciate the book.

Salman Rushdie is far from my favorite author. Before Khomeini put out a contract on him (as we say in North Jersey), he always seemed to be disparaging the US of A and extolling the virtues of the revolutionary Third World. But since, he's come and put down a root in NYC. Every once in a while, I wish one of these revolutionary writers would make his home in Havana or Pyongyang to put his money where his mouth is.

I found the Satanic Verses (the fiction) to be weird, but amusing.

While there is much more about Muhammed that is also weird, somehow, it's not so amusing.

Islam: Un-creating Woman for 1400 years

Muhammad Haykal wrote: It is a story whose incoherence is evident upon the least scrutiny. It contradicts the infallibility of every prophet in conveying the message of his Lord.

Interesting. I am now studying the Sahih al Bukhari, accepted by the overwhelming majority of Muslim scholars and all of Sunni Islam as authentic and autoratative, and I am finding numerous references to ayat that were originally included in the Quran but which were then nullified. It seems that Allah changed his mind quite a few times.

There is no Satanic verses in the Koran, than christian church that want to destory Islam couldnot find it in an official Koran or any other Koran. This auther is than con artist who make alot of money by spead hated around the world. Before I became than muslim I utter refuse to read that book written by than faud.

Thanks for reminding me Robert. From a 12 March 1992 newspaper clipping I keep in my copy of the Satanic Verses:

“Supporters said that the threat would be defused under such an arrangement and that publishers had an obligation to be defiant in the face of threats against freedom of speech.

But some people in the industry disagreed, saying that the hard cover Satanic Verses was widely available and that they could not afford to jeopardize the safety of their employees.

The Japanese translator of the book was murdered last year and the Italian translator was severely wounded in attacks that are believed to have been carried out by people fulfilling the Iranian decree.”

For more, I’m sure Natasha at Moose and Squirrel will post my next dispatch on the subject. (It’s late, wait until tomorrow.)

Hmmmmmmm what deity was it that said nothing to Muhammad when he married a 6 year old child? And what deity said nothing to Muhammad when he was sexually excited enough by this child to have sex with her at the age of 9? Was it the same deity that forbade so much for its slaves but somehow forgot to include the rape of children? The only decent answer possible could be that, that deity is Satan/Allah.

"This auther (sic) is than con artist who make alot (sic) of money by spead (sic) hated (sic) around the world."

Wow, who knew a Muslim would speak about Mohamet like that?!

...........................

So you believe that the official Sira of the Prophet Muhammed, compiled by Ibn Ishaq around 750AD, was concocted by Infidels?

That would mean you do not follow the Sunnah (the Hadith and Sirat together) that record the example of the Prophet Muhammed. These form *the basis of the life of a Muslim*.

In that case, you must be a Heretic or an Apostate.

Try running that one past your Imam, "DefenderofIslam".

I finally got around to reading The Satanic Verses this past Christmas. I loved it--it has a lot going on literarily. My favorite literary element was the allusions to Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita, my absolute favorite book.

Natalie,
Somewhere in Dostoevsky, one of his fictional characters speaks with astounding eloquence to prove human immortality is a reality. But I can't seem to locate the passage. Do you happen to know where it is?

Wow -- the Rushdie fatwa is of legal age for drinking! Adult beverages that is. I for one would like to see the Rushdie Fatwa trounced by Margaritas and puking in a gutter somewhere, before getting the spins and passing out.

But who'd know the difference?

His little green book says it all. The guy was a pervert.

Ever see the video of ayatollah so smellys funeral? (Khomeini) What a crack up! His followers are so stricken with grief that they knock the coffin from the hands of those that are carrying it. The big K's body spills out of the coffin and goes rollin' down a hill with people piling on it as it rolls.
I 'bout died laughin'. Talk about a lack of respect! And total lack of self control on the part of hundreds. Speaks volumes for islam eh? You would never in your life see such a spectacle where any other religion is concerned. Aside from a few distraught wives throwing themselves on the coffin or other such hysterics, the people themselves remain respectful and act in an appropriate manner. Rollin' around in the dirt with your heroes dead body...lacks respect.

islam is a lie and
Truth is killing it.

I recall reading somewhere (Christopher Hitchens?) that Rushdie had taken a proof copy to his colleague, Edward Said, to see if there might be any problems with its publication.

Said had apparently found nothing worth worrying about.

Has anyone else come across this?

I remember when the book came out, and I got it from the library. I was in high school at the time. My mother and I were watching the news one night, and the footage of the riots came on. I asked Mom, "How many of these people do you think have actually read the book?" She said, "Zero."

The entire Qu'ran is the work of the Devil, therefore all the verses contained therein are Satanic.

Fantastic article Robert! I've passed this article along to numerous people!

"It was the first salvo in what has become an all-out Islamic war against the freedom of speech."
-------------------------------------------------------
In modern times, that is. Going back, there's Asma Bint Marwan and the murder of Muhammed's Medinan critics. The Islamic shut-up imperative continues.

DefenderofIslam sez:

"Before I became than muslim I utter refuse to read that book written by than faud."

I suspect he hasnt't read many books after becoming a Muslim...

Years ago I could have cared less about Islam or Muslims, now I seek out what they are writing about and to learn what they are trying to do...their violence and anti social behavior becomes very clear...they have a plan and the Qur'an provides the guidelines....it has become very apparent, Islam must be confronted...

For Avraidire . . .

Those Jay Smith videos are amazing. Clearly, Muslims are so brainwashed, that they cannot answer Jay's questions; instead, they have to point the finger at an "infidel" to evade it.

I'm not a church-going person, but those are truly amazing videos. Thanks for posting the link.

Read? You can't even write a coherent sentence!

In my opinion the entire Qur'an is made up of Satanic Verses.
Like the Quraysh said, "We have never seen the kind of trouble we have endured from this fellow. He has derided our traditional values, declared our way of life foolish, abused and insulted our forefathers, reviled our religion, caused division among us, divided the community, and cursed our gods."Tabari VI:101

And the Islamic tradition continues today. They mock our religions, our way of life, our traditional values, they divide our communities and curse our gods.
Why do we put up with Islam after 1400 years of this abuse? Why?
Our leaders and ignoramuses play the same politically correct games that the Quraysh did back then. Look what happened to the Quraysh. Looked what happened to the people of Medina? And the same befell anyone else who stood in the way of Islamic conquest.
The verses of the Qur'an were the devils own words. No true loving and merciful god could ever put thoughts like these into the world.
Even more to the point, I don't believe it was from Satan either. I think the whole damned thing was dreamt up by Muhammad's sick mind. He used the ancient texts and created his own cult following just as Hitler did.
Those who want to know the truth about Islam should also read Hitler’s "Mein Kampf"

You Sir are no different than the other MAHOUND COWARDS who occasionaly post here. You make an incoherent statement and then you disappear for fear of having to defend your jibberish with logic or fact. Since you and Salman Rushdie are both Anti American you should get along. Now I will prophesize to you:

Under islam your son must die for god.
Under Christianity God's Son dies for you.

A Salam A Lunatic

What's odd it that while Muslims are all panties-in-a-twist about these "Satanic" verses, they don't seem to worry at all about the following verses:

Quran 9:5 "Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war."

9:112 "The Believers fight in Allah's cause; they slay and are slain, kill and are killed."

8:39 "So fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief [non-Muslims]) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (in the whole world)."

8:65 "O Prophet, urge the faithful to fight. If there are twenty among you with determination they will vanquish two hundred; if there are a hundred then they will slaughter a thousand unbelievers, for the infidels are a people devoid of understanding."

9:38 "Believers, what is the matter with you, that when you are asked to go forth and fight in Allah's Cause you cling to the earth? Do you prefer the life of this world to the Hereafter? Unless you go forth, He will afflict and punish you with a painful doom, and put others in your place."

47:4 "When you clash with the unbelieving Infidels in battle (fighting Jihad in Allah's Cause), smite their necks until you overpower them, killing and wounding many of them. At length, when you have thoroughly subdued them, bind them firmly, making (them) captives. Thereafter, either generosity or ransom (them based upon what benefits Islam) until the war lays down its burdens. Thus are you commanded by Allah to continue carrying out Jihad against the unbelieving infidels until they submit to Islam."

While the entire Qur'an was created by the devil notion is subject to debate, it is obvious to even the casual reader that Islam is a religion unlike any other.

@constitutionalist
about Jay Smith....
THANKS. he's great I know. I've had the privilege to sit under his teaching a bit here in London and to go with him to Speaker's corner, it's a wild place! But you really get a feel of the challenges of radical Islam there. I happen to bump into him once in a while because we work in a similar environment, I'd love to get more mentoring from him he is a great expert at apologetics, and he's fun!

another great video

http://www.avraidire.eu/2010/02/jay-smith-stands-up-for-jesus-at-speakers-corner/

Rushdie came along at a very interesting time.

The infedal thought that "Islam is that religion on the other side of the world"...that they can stomp & chomp & write as they please.

Rushdie was the catalyst to lost muslim teenagers who know not how to connect to their own religion. They found that they were being "strung out to dry" by this very clever man who was having a go at Muhd SAW with gay abandon.

He probably would have gotten away with it had it not been for one Alyotollah Khomeni who had just come back from France.

Rushdie of course was shocked and tried to deny any wrong doing...which ofcourse was the wrong answer.

He should have begged forgiveness and made a special trip for Hajj to apologise "in person" to Muhd SAW....ofcourse he didn't do that either and is/was wrapped in self denial.

The fact he isn't dead speaks volumes for the tolerenace which exists in Islam. He has done a lot to make muslims the worldover become self aware and perhaps this is why we say that "Allah SWT works iin strange ways".

I hope one day he will apologise to Muhd SAW and all muslims and beg to become part of the ummah....he has to go and meet Allah SWT one day....so better to start the grovelling now.

Yom

Yo Yom, you banged your head too hard during Friday prayers.

Yommie is a comedian!

"The fact he (Rushdie) isn't dead speaks volumes for the tolerenace which exists in Islam."

LOL! I'm rolling on the floor! This is sooo funny! Hahaha!

Who says there is no fun in Islam! Oh, yeah, the Ayatollah Komeini.

The Satanic Verses were cooked up by Muhammad for political reasons. They are the only Koranic verses that are NOT Satanic.

The Satanic Verses were hilarious, much in the vein of Monty Python's screwing of Christianity. Too funny.

HA! HA! I noticed that as well.

Pity the fool who follows the false prophet.HAHAHAHA

The Satanic Verses are hilarious; a very Monty Pythonish satire of religion.

The Yomster--putting the fun back in islam!

Does Yom realize just how unintelligent he is?

"The fact he isn't dead speaks volumes for the tolerenace which exists in Islam."

Yom,
All that Halal food has given you a bad case of brain damage. Try having some pork chops with a side of bacon that should straighten you out.

"He never figue out that Islamist world would react the way it did and he have to worry about his skin.He is heading for hellfire unless he say he is sorry and asking for forgiven from Allah before he die from natural cause."

It is not possible to ask Allah for forgiveness being that Allah is the Devil himself and the author of sin.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:44-45

On September 10, 2001, Salmon Rushdie was asked to leave a flight from New York to Hamiliton?, Ontario for security reasons???? This story was published in the September 11, 2001 edition of the Globe and Mail.

The recent burning of the Koran which took place on the ninth anniversary at ground zero is yet one more reason to examine the subject of hope.
