A warning that was not heeded and is not being heeded. "Army warned about jihadist threat in '08," by Bill Gertz in The Washington Times, February 9 (thanks to Doc Washburn):
Almost two years before the deadly Fort Hood shooting by a radicalized Muslim officer, the U.S. Army was explicitly warned that jihadism -- Islamic holy war -- was a serious problem and threat to personnel in the U.S., according to participants at a major Army-sponsored conference. The annual Army anti-terrorism conference in Florida in February 2008 included presentations on the threat by counterterrorism specialists Patrick Poole, Army Lt. Col. Joseph Myers and Terri Wonder.
The meeting was organized by the Army's provost marshal general and included more than 350 force protection and anti-terrorism professionals who came from major Army installations and commands from around the world, according to participants.
Mr. Poole, a counterterrorism specialist and adviser to government and law-enforcement agencies, said his presentation and that of the other two counterterrorism experts "attempted to instruct these anti-terrorism and force protection professionals not just in the indicators of Islamic jihadism, but also the strategic deficiencies in the military comprehension of the overall jihadist threat."
The shooting at a recruiting center in Little Rock, Ark., in June and the November shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, that killed 13 people have exposed the problem of the Army's deficiencies in understanding the nature of the domestic Islamic terrorist threat, Mr. Poole said.
The incidents have raised questions about whether the Army made any effort to "operationalize" the threat warnings from the 2008 conference and develop policies to counter the threats. "The answer quite clearly is no," Mr. Poole said....
I've read about Latino gangs making inroads into the US military-primarily for the goal of military training but the threat from Islam is different. There also seems to be a concerted effort to inflitrate the US political system, sometimes with enablers like Keith Ellison on the Democratic side and Grover Norquist on the Republican.
I suppose that sovereign immunity protects the government from being sued, but were I a family member of those who died, quite unnecessarily, at Fort Hood, I would want some recompense. Perhaps a group consisting of family members of those who were murdered by Nidal Hasan could ask one or more members of Congress to hold hearings on this, showing exactly the reason for that adverb in the first sentence: they died, quite unnecessarily.
The criminal negligence of those who, themselves apparently ignorant of Islam, and compounding their dereliction of duty (not, at this point, to know about Islam constitutes, in many parts of the military and the civilian government, a dereliction of duty), chose to ignore those who, like Joseph Myers and Patrick Poole, do know and have warned, has to be shown, has to be held up for inspection by the press, and beyond the press -- that itself has a lot to answer for -- inspection by members of the American public, that American public whom some in government, often less informed about Islam than many private citizens, and consequently in this matter less capable, nonetheless presume to protect and instruct.

The military is the one place where factual reality must prevail, where wallowing in happy-feelgood bullsheet is not an option, where operational effectiveness and force readiness is paramount.
But last time I looked US Navy brass was at a ribbon cutting ceremony in Norfolk to celebrate the opening of an on-base mosque, oh but no, wait, then we had the two dumbass professors at the National Defense University lecturing that Jihad is only a matter of internal spiritual struggle.

Spirits indeed, hallucinations of creed, false premises in need, the politico bureaucrats in uniform planted the seed so that let our soldiers bleed.
When I was in Army CID back in the 80's and 90's, we had a "Palestinian-American" clerk who wasn't shy about expressing his hate for Israel and anyone who supported them.
Everything was the fault of the Joooooooos.
It's not new.
Gates should have had his feet in office long enough to have kept himself awake through this conference.
You mean he didn't attend?
That would explain a lot.
By all the evidence to date, collected over 1400 years of history, Islam has been shown to be a hateful, violent, and intolerant religion/political movement/way of life.
We have been betrayed by the very institution we rely on to protect our country.
The members of the conservative movement are aware of the danger from Islam. We must do all that is humanly possible to spread the word, particularly among the women of America.
Not sure if this holds water...but reading this, a contrast occurs to me.
The empire of Japan attacked our military bases in Hawaii in 1941. More than 2500 folks, mostly military personnel, were killed. Hawaii was a trust-territory at the time. The US Government immediately declared war on the Empire of Japan. Japanese-Americans were collected & placed in internment camps as perceived threats to our internal security. This was arguably an overreaction; before the war was over many brave & patriotic Japanese-Americans fought with distinction and gave their lives in the Allied cause. But at that time, our government erred on the side of SECURITY and PROTECTION of its homeland. They felt that it was better safe than sorry. After all, we were at war; our way of life was in the balance.
Fast-forward to 2010. 9 years ago, muslims attacked this country, ON OUR OWN SOIL, and slaughtered 3000 innocent people. Not erstwhile combatants; just men, women, children going about their lives. Today, you'd never even know that that happened. Our government refuses to even acknowledge islam as our enemy. It offers full judicial rights to their terrorists. Our CEO kisses the rings of their leaders. It hides from the truth behind euphemisms like, "Man-Caused Disaster," and "Lone Nut" and "Isolated Incident." It dreams-up new excuses for them, like the dreaded "Pre-Tramautic Stress Syndrome." Meanwhile, islamic leaders preach hate, their adherents attack us, their apologists attempt to deceive us while funding the enemy and plotting our destruction...right here on our own soil.
I can only conclude that, had our present government been in authority in 1941, it would have referred to Pearl Harbor as a "Man-Caused Disaster," concluded that we must've done some awful things to anger our enemies, asked for an investigation, blamed the previous administration, instituted outreach programs, claimed that the attackers were a small minority of radicals who misunderstood Bushido and offered to build them a hydroelectric plant at our expense.
How is it that our way of life isn't as threatened now? How is it that we're not OPENLY at war with islam? What happened to the truth?
What happened to security and protection? What happened to righteous wrath and terrible resolve? What the hell is happening to my country?
I apologize for this long-winded rant. The whole business is just so damned pathetic...
Why should anything have improved since 2008, when that was the year the DoDos got rid of Stephen Coughlin, whose detailed and incisive analysis of the ideological threat got him crosswise with the Muslim a$$hole buddy of the deputy secretary of defense?
Stalin only thought his government was full of "wreckers"; ours actually is.
For those who came in late, that analysis may be seen at
http://www.strategycenter.net/docLib/20080107_Coughlin_ExtremistJihad.pdf
and should -- no, must -- be read in its entirety.
The gubmint will not do a thing to stop the progression of islam. Unfortunately, and I've said this before, it's going to take a really bad "man-made disaster" to wake up the people in this country (one that the MSM can't push under the proverbial carpet of history) before "We the people" take back our country and runaway gubmint. No longer do those elected actually represent the people...they do whatever they want without worrying about the {retarded} electorate. You can't fight stupid and stupid is rampant throughout this country and the rest of the world.
George,
Excellent rant! No apology required.
And the orders came down from the top.
So much for our alleged "representatives".
I believe it was Bill Gertz that broke the Major Coughlin Story at the Pentagon when Hesham Islam who had the ear of the 2nd in command a Mr.England complained about Major Coughlins excellent thesis on Islams jihadist actions entitled here:
“TO OUR GREAT DETRIMENT”:
IGNORING WHAT EXTREMISTS SAY ABOUT JIHAD
http://www.strategycenter.net/docLib/20080107_Coughlin_ExtremistJihad.pdf
This is a recommended read. Also note that Major Coughlin will be making his first public appearance at the February 19th freedom defense initiative in Washington DC.
George, no need to apologize.
"How is it that we're not OPENLY at war with islam? What happened to the truth?
What happened to security and protection? What happened to righteous wrath and terrible resolve? What the hell is happening to my country?"

I don't get it either. it's absolutely mind-boggling. I feel like I'm living in a "matrix " or a nightmare because none of this makes sense. I too , would like someone to explain to me exactly how this happened. How have we been so effectively silenced? By whom (in our own arena)? Why (other than actual jihadists)? And why haven't "we" done anything about it as a group?
Despite all appearances, surely the majority of Europeans & Westerners can't be this stupid or lazy . What the hell happened to common sense?
"I've said this before, it's going to take a really bad "man-made disaster" to wake up the people in this country"

I had hoped that 9/11 would have done the trick, but within a few months it became apparent that it wouldn't.
Unfortunately I have to agree with you, it looks like it's going to take a catastrophe of monumental proportions to wake people up.
NO! Godammit,it will not take another catastrophe of monumental proportions to wake people up.
It will take you and you and you and you and you and YOU reaching beyond the comfort zone of your JW comments ~ valuable and insightful as they may be ~ to tell your relatives and friends, with whom you share a level of trust, what a deadly threat we face and what has already befallen mankind by way of the cancer called Islam.
Use JW as your rallying point, but...
Do not be afraid to bloody your sword in the battle to save freedom. The guy next to you is a pussy. It's up to you. Now.
Put that on my tombstone.
I agree with most of the comments on here, but being an active military member I am also stuck to those rules. It is not our Defense Leadership - Congress is the agency that has mandated sensitivity training, consideration of others and the rest of the useless garbage that wastes important training time. I know that we are not allowed to direct anything specifically at a certain religion, instead it is always viewed in terms of an individual or splinter group so as not to offend any religious body. Of course here is the required disclaimer as well that these are my personal views and do not reflect the views of the military or its leaders.
