Yes, yes, "there is no compulsion in religion" (Qur'an 2:256) and forced conversion is forbidden in Islamic law, but when the prophet of Islam himself tells his followers to offer unbelievers conversion, subjugation, or war, the line between free choice and compulsion can get a little blurred.

Hard to tell. Hugh. the following is an account of the horrifying original gang rape and murder. On the one hand, it sounds as though it was narco-terror carried out by drug dealers. On the other hand, one of the assailants was a Kosovar Muslim, and one of the girls had her throat cut, a most 'Islasmic' form of murder.
Ultimately, I imagine it hardly matters. It is often the most vicious of "regular" criminals who are most drawn to Islam in prison, and often Muslims who are most drawn to the ugliest forms of crime by their religious ideology. It is hardly surprising that, recent "revert" or not, Morally's brand of prison Da'wa would quickly turn to the most violent.
By the way, scalding as a form of torture is not new to Jamaile Morally:

Islamic law requires forced conversion, either direct (e.g., 9:5, 4:89-91, 9:73-74) or indirect (e.g., the dhimma, based in part on 9:29). We need to distinguish here between the policies that Muslims use, and what some Muslims say about those policies. Some Muslims may say that Islam forbids forced conversions, but others frankly admit that Islam has policies intended to force people to convert. Regardless of what Muslims say about the policies, the fact remains that Islam has policies that require Muslims to force people to convert to Islam. And once people are into Islam, it also has policies to keep them there by force. Forced conversion, in all of its various forms, is essential to the survival of Islam. Without forced conversion and forced compliance, Islam would be diminished, and eventually would be finished, as a major religion.
