A senior judge could be called on to investigate a complaint that Cherie Blair handed down a more lenient sentence to a man who had been convicted of fracturing a person's jaw because he was religious.Mrs Blair, a devout Roman Catholic who sits as a part time judge under the title Cherie Booth QC, spared Shamso Miah from jail last month after he was convicted of assaulting a person at a bank queue in east London.
The 25-year-old from Redbridge, north-east London, was given a two-year suspended sentence instead of a six-month jail term because, Mrs Blair said, he was a "religious person" who had not been in trouble before.
In response the National Secular Society made an official objection to the Judicial Complaints Office which handles complaints against members of the judiciary. Last night the OJC said the complaint was being "considered under the Judicial Discipline Regulations". If it finds that Mrs Blair may have breached those regulations, a senior judge would then be brought in to investigate and could recommend formal disciplinary action.
Mrs Blair was hearing the case at the Inner London Crown Court on 23 January. The court heard how Mr Miah, who described himself as a devout Muslim, had punched Mohammed Furcan in the face following an argument with over who was first in a queue at a bank.
CCTV captured Mr Miah punching Mr Furcan in the face before running out the bank. When Mr Furcan followed him to demand why he had been hit, Mr Miah lashed out again knocking Mr Furcan to the pavement and breaking his jaw.
In court Mr Miah pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm. At sentencing, Mrs Blair appeared to take into account Mr Miah's religious convictions as a partial reason for imposing a more lenient sentence.
"I am going to suspend this sentence for the period of two years based on the fact you are a religious person and have not been in trouble before," she said. "You caused a mild fracture to the jaw of a member of the public standing in a queue at Lloyds Bank. You are a religious man and you know this is not acceptable behaviour." [...]
Jonathan Bartley, from the liberal Christian think-tank Ekklesia, agreed. "You can't pretend religion is an irrelevant factor in assessing someone's behaviour because faith will always have some sort of an impact on how we behave," he said. "However it would be very wrong to assume that just because a person is religious they will automatically be a good person. You only have to look back through history to know that is not the case."
So then it is common knowledge in Britain that Muslims are more violent than members of other religions? And that's okay with the courts?

We have learned to fear the worst when the word "devout" is used to describe Muslims.
Though the word may conjure up visions of serenity, wind chimes, chanting hymns, or silent prayer when applied to other faiths, I wish I had a dollar for every time the perpetrator of a violent act was described as "a religious Muslim."
Surely the pain associated with the victim's fractured jaw was duly lessened.
It doesn't matter what his religion is, or it shouldn't. What then of atheists and agnostics? Would she have lightened his sentence if he had been a non-believer, but a good scientist? How about a devout musician? An artist who "has not been in trouble before"?
Mrs. Blair really screwed the proverbial pooch, on this call.
So, Mr Miah described himself as a "devout Muslim". I wonder how the man he punched, Mohammed Furcan, decribed himself? Oh, "Mohammed", perhaps the clue is in the name.
The judge said, "You are a religious man and you know this is not acceptable behaviour."
But....Muslims are "the best of people", the Qur'an says so.
Cherie Blair is NOT a devout roman catholic. She is an openly dissenting roman catholic, and so is her husband.

this suspended sentence would have been ludicrous even if the assailant had been a "devout" Christian, or Jew, or any other follower of a genuinely ethical and moral religion—since its teachings would not have been working in this case.
But to tell Miah "you are a religious man and you know this is not acceptable behaviour" when the religion in question is *Islam*—a faith that openly condones and even idealizes the most appalling violence, is the height of insanity.
There's another point, here, as well, though it is hardly the main one: when "liberals" like Cherie Blair decide to show how sensitive and sympathetic they are to these kinds of criminals, they seldom seem to notice the victims, who might rather be in need of some sympathy of their own.
In the case of Muslims, often these victims are Muslim themselves. In the case of being "sensitive" to Muslim family structure or the wearing of the veil, this often means ignoring Muslim women's rights, and in the case above, it means ignoring Mohammed Furcan's "mild fracture", in favor of lauding Mr. Miah's "devoutness".
This idiot judge is making a couple of mistakes. Let's assume for a moment that Islam is a peaceful religion. If someone decides to FRACTURE a jaw (even just a mild fracture!) then they're not acting "peacefully." IF Islam is peaceful, then by definition, he's going AGAINST his religion and is not devout. Therefore, by her logic, he should have been given a much more HARSH sentence for being a *hypocrite.*
On the other hand, if Islam is a violent religion, then he's just adhering to the principles he devoutly believes in, and perhaps in her mind he shouldn't be sentenced at all. /sarc
Was the victim a muslim too? If so, what benefit did he get besides a broken jaw and weeks (or even months) of painful recovery?
Maybe a little sharia compliant blood money?
If the victim wasn't a muslim, maybe the sentence is just normal, every day sharia compliant leniency. After all, under islamic law, muslims don't have the face the same punishments as mere infidels.
Let's hope the victim can get some justice in a civil court.

It is obvious that Mr Miah is a hypocrite as everyone knows and Muslims maintain that "Islam is a Religion of Peace™". His hypocrisy is evident in his actions following the first blow that admittedly could have been a momentary emotional lapse.

The second more serious blow came several instants after the first and at a different location, showing a determined effort to cause injury to Mr Furcan. This full expression of punishment would serve to notify all Muslims that they should be taken at their word when they maintain that "Islam is a Religion of Peace™" and that the courts will coöperate in helping them to maintain this image by appropriate punishment to those who bring Islam into disrepute.
