The English Defence League (EDL), a group standing up against the spread of Sharia and Islamic supremacism in England, is often stigmatized as racist and fascist -- but here again this common tactic of the Left is without substance. Sajid Khan, a Pakistani member of the EDL, kindly sent me this message:
I am an ex-Muslim and a proud EDL member. I have been to many of their demos, including London. The information about the EDL in the mainstream media has been quite biased and just stupid. For instance, they say that the EDL is "right wing" and "racist". This is wrong, as I am a liberal who supports equal rights for different races, colours, sexualities and religions. This is primarily why I support the EDL.As an ex-Muslim, who still has to hide this fact from many (if not all) my fellow Muslims including my family, I believe that your average White English Christian pub-going non-halal meat-eating and pork-eating Infidel living in the West is the only liberal voice out there opposing the hordes of violence-supporting backward "right-wing" religious foreigners who come into the West and think that homoseuxals should be tortured and killed, and who think that women must gain their husband's or father's permission to go out for the most basic of things like seeing a doctor for treatment.
These people believe that women who show their faces are "whores" and are "asking for it," and that this justifies rape. They think that "offensive" cartoons drawn of a supposed "prophet" of a certain religion (I'll let you guess that one) should be condemned by all, and that the freedom to draw such cartoons should not be available. These are the same people of the same religion who will not condemn with the same tenacity the heartless and cruel practice of the "honor killing" of women and girls.
Why is this? If the only people in the UK who are making any noise about this culture creeping in slowly are White people (who are the majority), it's only reasonable for everyone else who does not like this Islamic culture to join with them. The EDL had White, Black and mixed raced members from the start. I myself am from a South Asian ancestry, and I have gotten to know many EDL activists. I have been welcomed with open arms at their demos and pubs right from the first one. The EDL may have seen as if it attracts a few football hooligans at a few demos, but what did you expect -- some Beyonce fans and astronauts? Didn't think so!
I am also happy to say that EDL has created a division especially for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender people, to show that it welcomes all those who will stand against radical islam and for Western civilisation. Its facebook page can be found here.
But the media ignores us. I gave an interview to a British newspaper at an EDL demo but they only published interviews with white members. There was also another Pakistani lad (he's not religious, I think) who gave an interview before me. He is a footy fan and he supports the EDL and said he is against bombing and sharia law. They also didn't mention him.

More power to the EDL! Sajid Khan is a brave man for speaking out and he will be targeted for harassment and, indeed, death as an apostate to Allah's religion.
I do hope that persons in a similar situation in the U.S. will take heart from him and speak out on the looming menace of jihad, both violent and non violent, in this country!
Unfortunately, the media in Great Britain, as here in the U.S., is in the pockets of the P.C. purveyors of "Islam is a Religion of peace".

The EDL is looking like the best hope of an emergent political movement for English voters, if not now, at least in years to come if this group can mature. David Cameron's Conservatives have decided to be "progressive," leaving the field open for a real movement of interested citizens to take the place of such fools.

I think that Beck, besides his self professed ADD causing him to skip paragraphs while reading the koran, is like a domestic turkey, vs. most of us here at JW, who are like a wild turkey.

"On Saturday 20th February 2010, members of the English Defence League were denied their civil liberties when attempting to join the Scottish Defence League for a peaceful protest in Edinburgh. Supporters who arrived at Waverley train station were forced back onto trains heading away from Edinburgh by the Police. So far, everything I have heard about the EDL sounds encouraging—especially these words from Mr. Khan. Bravo!
I think it is a huge mistake to "dump on" Glenn Beck for his ignorance concerning Geert Wilders. I, too, was sadly disappointed in his mischaracterizing Geert as a Fascist, but Beck is a true patriot. He has consistently stood for Constitutional principles; he is a champion of limited government and freedom; he loves the Constitution of the United States and is a militant foe of Progressivism, Communism and Fascism, whether it be in the Democratic party or the Republican. He has "outed" such radicals in the Obama Administration as the "Green Czar", Communist Van Jones, and others like Harold Koh, John Holdren, Mark LLoyd and Cass Sunstein, and his many other Communist and radical pals such as Bill Ayers, Saul Alinsky, ad nauseam. He has correctly identified the enemies of limited government since Woodrow Wilson, Teddy Roosevelt and FDR.
Let's not make the mistake of so many others who castigate those who do not live up to our expectations in every respect; lets work on educating in love those who are so ill informed on a subject which we care so passionately about.

We need more ethnic people on the forefront of the anti-Islam movement, to penetrate the thick hide of the Anti-Racist PC MCs who think the Islam issue is a racial issue. In a sane world, just to imagine one example, ABC News would showcase a debate between Sajiid Khan and that Not-Quite-Ex-Muslim defender of Islam, Fareed Zakaria.

I am in agreement regarding Beck. I think he is a sensationalist, but he is one of the ONLY ones outing, in detail, the corruptocrats "transforming" our great land into a communist ****hole.
However, he bounces back and forth regarding islam, from "stop blowing stuff up" (as seen on youtube), to politely conversing and giving publicity to those who have no backing in islamic theology, like Ms. Manji.
Then, he claims to be about "freedom", but will not speak about Mr. Savage, and puts Mr. Wilders (at least, insinuates) on the "fasciest right" that Europe needs to be concerned with.
I do DVR the show on a nightly basis, and enjoy about 85% of the content, but wish the man would at least TRY for some consistency.

I didn't see/hear Beck's comments on Geert Wilders, but from comments here, he obviously has not a clue about the dangers of creeping sharia etc. The problem is that Beck is now the number two most popular tv personality after Ophra and therefore has a huge audience and influence and there lies the danger. This is yet another example of the media being thoroughly irresponsible allowing Beck to comment on something he knows nothing about. But again, I suspect Fox is slowly but surely being gagged by the Saudi Prince who now owns 7pc of the organisation and will have a very strong influence on its broadcasting. Having lived in Saudi and other ME counbtries, unbiased TV is all but non-existent except for Fox. We now need another tv station which is honest for the people who care about the USA and its future.
Unfortunatly, not everything is rosy with the EDL, they do not oppose islamization, they only target obvious loudmouth islamists such as Choudary.
The EDL ban anybody who is very critical of islam from their forum.

I believe permission is not required for a static demonstration only a march. They did not apply for permission for a march because there was no possibility of them getting one. Even then the left warned any Edinburgh bar owner who allowed them meet in their bar that they would remember it when the time came to renew their licenses.
Having said that kicking policemen at any time particularly when they are down is a bad idea but from the look of it at 0.49 most of the EDL were trying to stop one violent individual. It obviously does not apply in this incident but unknown to the British public the police CAN be rough. I am not presenting it as any justification but I know a student who attended the anti-Glaser demonstration at Manchester United's football ground 2/3 years ago. When a policeman gave him a sharp tap on the thigh with his truncheon and told him to “Move on!” his response was, "Hey! This is a peaceful demonstration!" The reply? “We'll show you how peaceful it is”. He moved.
If that is what happens at a completely non-political demonstration think what will happen with the EDL who are throwing the governments lies and cowardice in their faces?
So far they have been very successful in bracketing the EDL with the BNP. Even the very few educated people who have heard of them say, “Oh yes they’re like the BNP” so the ground is laid for the left to give them a good beating. Possibly with the police standing by to intervene enough to prevent fatalities.

I am afraid my knowledge of the EDL is not that great. What I know comes from comparing MSM reports with You Tube postings and their version of MSM reports on their website. You have an advantage in that you have posted on their forum while I have never even seen it.
I cannot see the slightest logic in a group which sells tee shirts emblazoned "Infidel" and which is reported to chant "Allah Allah who the **** is Allah" could ban anyone who was critical of islam. But then the BBC and others in the MSM insist islam is a religion of peace and learning which also defies evidence and reason.
Apart from that if you have tried to join one of their demonstrations you have my respect. About 4 years ago I was due to speak at a non-political charity lunch but the booking was canceled because I had unknowingly, and very briefly, associated with a member of the BNP.
