The footage, posted online by Afghani women's rights organisation RAWA, based in Pakistan, was originally aired by the Afghan TV channel "Tolo TV" on Feb. 18.
When contacted by FRANCE 24, the Afghan channel told us that the scene had taken place in December 2009 in the Dolina district (Ghor province, central), and that the footage was filmed by one of its sources there.
According to Ghor governor Abdul Hai Khatibi, the two women flogged that day -- only one is seen on the video -- had been forced to marry against their will. Beaten by their husbands, they ran away from their respective homes disguised in men's clothing. After a month on the run they were caught by police in Chasht (Herat province, west), arrested, and sent back to their husbands.
Both women were sentenced to 45 lashes in public. In a statement made on Pajhowk Afghan News, the deputy chief of police of Dolina district, Jahan Shah, explained that the case had been handed over to the local warlord, Fazl Ahad. He decided to have the women punished for running away, but also demanded that the husbands, whom he deemed guilty as well, divorce their wives.
A woman is raped, yet it is she who suffers flogging for sex outside marriage. A woman runs away from the torments of her forced husband, and yet she is punished. WTF.
This cult of Islam is so incredibly f***ed up. Pychiatrists have centuries of work ahead of them to straighten out the perverted ways of these people.

The scary part is that Fazl Ahad probably legitimately qualifies as a compassionate soul in his neighborhood!
He recognized the impossiblity of the forced marriage but if he had just turned the lkadies loose the mob almost ceraintly would have applid their own "justice."
On the other hand, it is also possible the father of one or both women had enough influence that Herr Ahad felt it better to let them go back to their families. The stripes on their backs won't bother the men who will never see them.

Arguably the greatest of all crimes that have been committed through the centuries because Islam exists rather than not existing is the abuse of women in sundry ways by Muslim men who have used their faith as an excuse for the way they have treated the women in their lives. So glad that RAWA caught this message and sent it out. they should do it as often as these gross oppressions of women happen.
It should be used by parties/ groups in the West like Wilders' Freedom Party. If people like those of RAWA could actually exist in Afghanistan (not only in Pakistan) then at least we gained a foothold, perhaps worthy of fighting for. Yesterday in election-debate Femke Halsema (GreenLeft Party) admitted that she was a core-feminist, but, she said: "I believe: Humans suppress humans, religions don't suppress humans".
Put this in the context that she only wants to talk about and protect Holland's Muslims, deeming A. Other women outside of her influence-circle and B. the Muslims of Holland totally innocent until proven guilty, to be trusted totally about their intentions and allegiances (thus supports) and their potential mysogyny, until some kind of guilty deed is done and proven. and even then of course it would be a human being and not a Muslim who did it.
But I think being feministic transcends boundaries and should include the world. In consequence it is so hypocritical and counterproductive in my view, for Halsema much more attacking Geert Wilders, who, whatever else he may be, is a great protector of international women's rights, whilst at the same time protecting herself all those presumably to be trusted, without any inspection, namely those poor Muslims, so discriminated against by Wilders, in her view.
It's at best a myopic naive view, looking only at Dutch Muslims and their lack of guilty deeds, in order to advocate to us to completely trust them without any inspection. To assume that with their body-transfer there was an automatic loyalty-transfer too. And it causes her to spend by far the most energy at castigating those who want inspection, of Islamic teachings and loyalties. After all the information we now possess of Islamic teachings and behavior of Muslims in Islamic countries!!!
So what is the alternative? There has to be an alternative, there has to be a something and not a nothing because a nothing creates the vacuum that allows Islam to rush in and fill our world.
We've got to stop denying our Christian heritage. When Europe made up its mind to do so it invited in the hordes. As it insists on denying it, even though the physical evidence of Christianity that once was is overwhelming there (think cathedrals, shrines, churches, statues, paintings, etc.,) the Muslim tumor continues to grow. How is it that we cannot see this?

Yet another case where things have gotten *worse*, not better, in the Muslim world, I'm afraid. RAWA *was* based in Afghanistan, all through the 1970s and even through the Soviet occupation.
Things became a lot more dangerous for them after the Russian withdrawal. And when the Taliban seized power and instituted full Shari'ah law, they had to flee. Apparently, despite all our expending of blood and treasure, things are still too dangerous for them to return.
I read a book last year about RAWA—brave people. And yet—even members of RAWA, critical as they are of such insanity as that noted above, can not bring themselves to see Islam as the problem. How many times have we seen this before?

So divorce is a punishment for the husbands? I don't think so. They'll just get another 9 year old.
As for the wives, divorced women in Afghanistan have few options. Most end up as prostitutes or beggars.
