Whitmore said department records show that Baca attended two CAIR fundraisers in recent years.
"Just because they are Muslim Americans does not mean they want to destroy Israel or the U.S.," Whitmore said.

Sheriff Baca oversees the largest sheriffs dept. in the country at more than 10,000 sworn deputies as well as a huge jail system throughout Los Angeles County.
Unless Sheriff Baca has a clear understanding of CAIR's infamous background and their assorted dealings in America, he is wise to stay clear of CAIR just as the FBI has done.
I'm always reminded that within hours after the 9-11 attack, Sheriff Baca ordered patrol units to maintain a running inspection of Synagogues and Jewish schools for months after the attack so he cannot be completely ignorant of Islamic determinations.
I attended a gathering of LA city and county officials with Sheriff Baca shortly after 9-11 at the County's hall of administration in which the leaders of the Islamic Center of Southern California where present. They passed out a small pamphlet entitled "Glimpses from the Quran" which for me turned out to be a total sham when it comes to the teachings of the Quran (I still have a copy of that booklet).

I can safely say that Sheriff Leroy Baca is not about money for himself. When he was elected sheriff after former Sheriff Sherman Block passed away he felt uncomfortable receiving both his Deputy Sheriff's pension and his new salary as the sheriff of Los Angeles County and he actually wanted to give it back or reduce it dramatically.

Exactly what I was thinking when I read that. When I read that Baca played a "patriotism card" like that it sent off warning bells. Reading that, I doubt very much he's just another ignorant Hollywood boob who gets his knowledge of Islam from George Clooney over lattes.
Someone who is accused of supporting a seditious ideology does not reflexively shoot back that the accuser is "un-American" for even suggesting it (as if being wary of foreign AND domestic threats could ever be UN-American), a "good" American would call the guy a jerk and immediately say he's a proud American. He does get it. My own Congressional Representative, Mr. Steve Buyer (IN-4), is also a man who "gets it". I've written him numerous times. (I think I'm on his fast-dial. LOL.)
