Lagos - At least 500 people were killed on Sunday in communal clashes near Nigeria's central city of Jos, a state governor's advisor said on Monday, revising a previous toll of around 100 dead."We have been able to make 95 arrests but at the same time over 500 people have been killed in this heinous act... by Fulani herdsmen," Dan Manjang said in a telephone interview.
The Nigerian army was on alert on Monday after Muslim herdsmen raided a Christian village near the restive city of Jos, hacking to death over 200 people.
Witnesses in the village of Dogo Nahawa told Nigeria's Vanguard newspaper that Hausa-Fulani tribesmen descended from the hills, firing shots in the air. When people ran out of their homes, they were set upon with machetes or shot.
Outbreaks of violence are common in Plateau State, where the indigenous Christians have long struggled with immigrant Muslims over resources. Over 300 hundred died in January, when rival gangs of youths clashed in Jos.
Act of jihad
A local Christian group said on Sunday the latest violence was an act of jihad.
"The attack, yet another jihad and provocation of the Christians, started at about 1.30 am last night," Plateau State Christian Elders Consultative Forum said in a statement.
"Eye-witnesses say the Hausa-Fulani Muslim militants came chanting 'allahu akbar' and broke into homes, cutting human beings, including children and women, with their knives and cutlasses," the statement added....

Eleanor, I sympathize. The erstwhile love of my life (a university professor) was similarly obdurate. Couldn't get her to even look at the Qur'an; she preferred to take the word of people like Edward Said and Karen Armstrong.

Fortunately he lives in LA and I'm on the east coast, so we don't actually have to "see each other" (a euphimism for "argue and fight")more than 2x a year. LOL! I've tried to get him to look at the Qur'an or Hadith too, but he'd rather re-read "The Hiram Key" and go on about the "New World Order."

I suppose that could the the January 18th incident where Muslims youths torched a Christian Church with people inside, as the people ran from the Church the Muslims attacked killing 22 and wounding 300...subsequent rioting killed about 27 more people...including several of the attackers...who happened to be Muslims...
Incidently, Muslims have been increasing attacks on Churches in Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Nigeria, Kenya, and many other places...."Kill 'em where you find 'em" they are taught...

The BBC reported this latest attack as a reprisal action for an earlier assault on Muslims by Christians. The Muslims were only defending themselves against violent Christians according to our neutral, unbiased broadcasting service.
Right - either the Muslims were "defending themselves" or, as "World Focus reported - it was "long-standing 'religious' tensions flaring up."
Yup - kinda like that Holocaust thingy - you know, where long-standing "tensions" between Nazis and Jews "flared up."
A Muslim commenter at the Times, apparantly living the free life in Britain, posits that it was all about competition for resources. What he does not realise is that he is equating Muslims with animals.

Henry - I wish I could have an answer to your question. It is a very good question too. There needs to be special programs on cable and satellite TV to inform the people of exactly that Islam is doing, the truth, the whole truth and nothing else but. Maybe the information needs to get to key people on TV and Radio. Maybe if some kind of conference were planned and this information put out to them, then maybe, just maybe they would AIR it over TV. But you are right. The word about the Koran and the horrible truth about what happens to people who do NOT believe in Islam needs to be heard ALL OVER THE WORLD!
