Does an Islamic supremacist have a right to head a New York City public school?

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission seems to think so. "The price of separatist schools," a New York Post editorial, March 16:

Does a radical Muslim have a right to head a New York City public school? The federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission seems to think so.

That panel ruled last week that city officials discriminated against Debbie Almontaser when they forced her out as principal of the taxpayer-funded madrassa she helped found.

Yet the Khalil Gibran International Academy, which is billed as an Arabic-themed public school, was a bad idea from the start -- and Almontaser was an even worse choice to lead it.

As The Post reported in 2007, Almontaser served as spokesman for an organization that shared office space with an Arab group that hawked T-shirts bearing the slogan "Intifada NYC" -- an apparent reference to the bloody Palestinian terror campaign against Israeli civilians.

Incredibly, Almontaser defended the shirts, claiming that "intifada" was really just an Arabic word for "shaking off."

Never mind, as The Post also reported, that the group's co-founders were members of an outfit that advocates the elimination of the Jewish state.

At best, in other words, Almontaser -- a self-styled "moderate" -- was willfully blind to the reality of Islamic terror and has no business teaching city schoolkids for that reason alone.

More likely, she played the folks at the Education Department for fools....

No doubt about that. Read it all.

Ok, what does 'shaking off' NYC mean...?

'Does a radical Muslim have a right to head a New York City public school'?

No...No one has a 'right' to head any school...unless it is an elected position...If it is her right, it is my right also...Where do I apply?' How much does it pay?

Khalil Gibran was born into a Maronite family in Northern Lebanon...His book 'The Prophet' is a classic...I don't think it was about Mahound...Mahound was never 'that' wise...

To name that academy after him is blue smoke and mirrors...
designed to make something ugly look good...

This is the visible tip of a very large and dangerous iceberg. Islamic infiltration, subversion and sedition in education is far more widespread than most parents realise. http://crombouke.blogspot.com/2010/01/islamic-infiltration-and-subversion-of.html

A school headed by a Muslim, named after the Lebanese Christian quasi-mystical writer Kahlil Gibran, who left Lebanon, as so many Christians did, early in the twentieth century, because they were keenly aware of the massacre of Maronites in Damascus in 1860, of the massacre of Christian Armenians in 1894-96, and of other incidents, large and small, that pointed forward to worse to come. Their cards of identity often referred to them as "Turcos" or "Sirianos" but, though inhabitants of the moribund Ottoman Empire, they were, above all, Christians and keenly aware of it

It is unsurprising that for reasons of protective coloration, knowing the good reputation of Lebanese Christians, that those who chose this name chose "Kahlil Gibran." It makes it seem...more acceptable, more Lebanese-y, more American.

Don't be fooled. This will not be a school that Kahlil Gibran, or the jurisprudent Antoine Fattal, author of "Le status legal des non-musulmanes en pays d'Islam" or Charles Malik, the Lebanese Christian (Greek Orthodox by birth, Maronite by worldview) statesman who, it is amazing to recall, contributed to the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (a document anathema to believing Muslims, which is why they came up with the "Islamic" version to fool the unwary, the so-called Cairo Declaration, but once was a major figure at the U.N., when the U.N. was not yet under the sway of the Islamintern), would approve of; they would sniff the air, and figure out at once that this was not a school where merely Arabic would be the language of instruction, but that Islam would be everywhere, and that they would never be welcome.

It would be interesting to know what *this* is all about:

Gibran Academy Principal Quits

On Monday, Ms. Reichert sent a letter home to parents saying that it would be her last day of school and that on Tuesday, Beshir Abdellatif would become interim acting principal.

http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/16/gibran-academy-principal-quits/

Almontaser's lawyer, Alan Levine, called the timing of the principal turnover "curious" and could interpreted "as an attempt to deflect the conclusion of the [EEOC] that the DOE had engaged in discrimination," he said.

Curious? Ha!

via Gotham Schools blog

"Reichert released a statement through New Visions, Khalil Gibran’s support organization.

“It was an honor for me to serve as principal of Khalil Gibran International Academy. However, I felt I had taken the school as far as I could and was looking for a new professional opportunity. I made the decision to transfer to another assignment a month ago but stayed on until this week while we planned the leadership transition at KGIA.”

The Department of Education’s statement follows:

“Holly Reichert has decided to leave Khalil Gibran International Academy to take position as a literacy coach at a secondary school in Queens. Beshir Abdellatif, who began his career with the Department in 1991 and has served as principal of Law, Government and Community Service High School since 2008, will lead the school until a permanent replacement is selected.”

We have had Communists heading public schools in various parts of the country. Why not an Islamicist?

I don't like either party, but there is a Constitutional case for both of these unpleasant allegiances serving our schools. The next job is to be sure that anyone not of that ideological ilk connected to the school is ready to sue, sue, sue at the slightest hint of discrimination or unfairness.

Brooklyn Daily Eagle reports:

" In spite of last week’s ruling by the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission that the Department of Education (DOE) discriminated against Debbie Almontaser when they forced her to resign as principal of Brooklyn’s Khalil Gibran International Academy (KGIA), the city says it won’t even consider reinstating her.

Paul Marks, deputy chief of labor and employment law for the NYC Law Department, said in a statement to the Brooklyn Eagle, “The EEOC’s finding is without any basis whatsoever. The DOE in no way discriminated against Ms. Almontaser, and she will not be reinstated. If she continues to pursue litigation, we will vigorously defend against her groundless allegations."

What will the city do when the federal court rule against then and it they donot obey the court order federal court police will ender city hall an arrest the mayor for content of court. Federal troop will enforce the order of the court.

This is your brain :

"Mmmm, I'm hungry because I haven't eaten supper yet tonight."

This is your brain, fully suffused by Islam :

"What will the city do when the federal court rule against then and it they donot obey the court order federal court police will ender city hall an arrest the mayor for content of court. Federal troop will enforce the order of the court."

'Nuff said, and no, English spelling and grammar have nothing to do with it. This comment speaks for itself, entirely.

"...arrest the mayor for content of court."

HHAAHAHHAHAAAA!!!!!!!

Champ,

ROFLMAO!

G

Hey George! :)

Kinda weird how the Post's article didn't mention the taxpayer-subsidized segregation at this school, huh?

federal court police will ender city hall an arrest the mayor for content of court. Federal troop will enforce the order of the court.

I think the Feds need to run that one by the local county DA and sheriff before arresting anyone for 'content of court'...
That's really hard to prove because no one knows exactly what it is...The Sheriff has the power to arrest those Federal troops for trespassing if he chooses to...

Jdamn...missed that name and those razor sharp comments...
Glad to see you posting... :)

Hi! ...glad to see you :)

Great sleuthing, Miira. It was impossible to miss that Beshir Abdellatif—like "Debbie" Almontaser—is almost certainly Muslim, while Holly Reichert is not.

It also seems suspect that Ms. Reichert would consider it a great "professional opportunity" to step down as a school principal in order to take a position as "a literacy coach at a secondary school".

Why should it be important that a school named for the Christian Khalil Gibran have a Muslim principal? Only if that school is not just an Arabic language school, but a vehicle for Muslim supremacy.

I've got to echo Duh Swami and Champ—great to see you posting again, Jdamn.

Same here jdamn. Nice to see ya...

Now...
If the US can have a Communist for a President...all things are possible.
Not necessarily right or proper or good for the Republic, but possible.

When Ike was president than federal judge order than little rock univerity accept than black student the state and city refuse the judge issue content of court the next day state policemen kill federal court police the president obey federal court ruleing sent in federal troop to force the state and city to obey the court order. The governor and city mayor where arrest by federal troop. So you foreigner hater know nothing about america legal system. After when than federal judge issue than ruleing of content state and city offical expect arrest by federal court police who are the only federal law enforcement group written into our contenition.

The DoE endorses discrimination against Americans at taxpayer-funded universities. They also don't think that Jews are entitled to either Title VI or Title VII rights when Mohammedans and their enablers violate them.

Are you using a translation program? Perhaps you should consider doing so as English is clearly not your first language, no offense intended... Using a translation program may make your posts easier to understand, that's all.

I kind of halfway understood what you were trying to say...I think. However,I can find no relevance whatsoever to the story at hand.

OT - this is just a quick social note. You're well? Still planning to make aliyah? (hope I spelt that right).

Hi dumbledoresarmy. No, because I didn't come close to passing the physical. They asked about hospitalizations and I told them how I had broken my back when I was sixteen when my friend drove her brother's VW bus into a 6-foot ditch. They said I wouldn't survive basic because everyone is required to jump out of a helicopter.

I thought I would at least make it to the eye exam, but no such luck.

:(

O dear.

That *is* disappointing.

But surely you can still go live in Israel even if you can't get into the IDF?

With your gun skills you'd still be able to help with homeland defence, should the worst come to the worst. I think Israel's going to need every warm body they've got, just like in 1948-49, in 1967 and in 1973.

"...arrest the mayor for content of court."

And on another thread..."electric official"...

This guy should do stand up...

Everyday terror at 'Intifada' HS

By ANDREA PEYSER

The Muslim principal who cried "bomb!" in a crowded school has left chaos and violence in the classrooms she created. And now, she's moved a step closer to returning.

It is against this tumultuous backdrop that we learn Brooklyn's Khalil Gibran International Academy -- founded in 2007 by firebrand ex-Principal Debbie Almontaser as the city's first public Arabic-themed school -- this year has suspended more than one-third of its student body for infractions ranging from hitting to weapons.

"Every day, they're fighting," said Voneeda Black, who nervously sends her 6-year-old to the elementary school with which Gibran shares a building.

"You don't see parents," she said. "Three or four times a week, there are cops here, if not more."

It may be the worst record in the city. So how did this happen?

Two and a half years ago, the hijab-wearing Almontaser invented the academy as a way to foster peace and understanding. But she was promptly removed, stuck elsewhere in the school system. She cried "unfair!"

Then, last week, Almontaser won a crucial ruling that could help bring her back. The federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said the school system discriminated against Almontaser's race and religion. Fired, for being an Arab.

Rubbish.

Almontaser was tossed after she proclaimed, in a detailed interview with this newspaper, that the term "intifada" -- which has led to mass murder, both downtown and in the Middle East -- does not equal bloody uprising. She defined the hot-button word as a benign "shaking off" of oppression. Particularly against girls. As if American girls are worse off than those in, say, her native Yemen.

Even accepting Almontaser's word that she's no radical, her comments suggest a tolerant, morally relativistic view of violence, for which there is no place in our schools. The commission didn't see it that way.

Almontaser has expressed utter joy to have -- finally! -- scored a victory in her claim to have been oppressed. The ruling, at the very least, will cost the city hundreds of thousands of dollars in settlement and legal fees, as it breathes life into Almontaser's lawsuit. At worst, she'll be back.

So I think it appropriate to take a hard look at Gibran -- a school founded on the flawed notion that segregating Arabists will lead to harmony.

Since it opened, the tiny school on the edge of DUMBO has had one of the city's highest rates of violence. A teacher was taunted by kids as a "terrorist" in 2008. It's gotten steadily worse.

More than a third -- one in three! -- of Gibran's 114 students, grades six through eight, have been suspended this year, according to the Department of Education.

Twenty-two were yanked from school for five days. Eight kids were considered so rowdy or dangerous, they were banned from class six to 10 days.

Nineteen fights led to student injuries or intimidation. In two other cases, weapons were used. This number has climbed from last year's 17 violent incidents and 26 suspensions.

And the school year isn't over yet.

"There's a lot of name-calling and walking around the hallways," said parent Deborah Rivers, whose sons, 11 and 13, are Gibran students.

It's scarier than parents suspect. Bedlam is a reason Gibran's latest revolving-door principal, Holly Reichert, resigned this week, leading the school to engage its fourth leader in less than three years, said a Department of Ed source.

"Those numbers [of violent incidents] are higher than they need to be," said the source. "Frankly, that is more than I want to see in a school of that size. They need to do better."

I reached out to the school, but was told the new Arab-American principal, Beshir Abdellatif, and other staff members were not available.

A bad idea has morphed into an abysmal failure. You don't get peace by segregating kids. You get weapons, pandemonium. And expensive lawsuits.

Almontaser should be grateful she was canned from her self-created disaster.

If you want an exercise in the absurd,go look at the Learning Environment Survey (or the School Report Card). Although 100% of the teachers took the survey, their answers were suppressed, because "there weren't enough respondents." Bizarre. On the survey, the majority of students said that there were fights every day, and that the adults "yelled at students" every day. Wow. With 11 English Language Learners in the school, one must question what the mission of the school really is. Obviously it is NOT supporting the acquisition of English Language skills by the Arabic community. One must ask, are my tax dollars supporting what is, in essence, a parochial school for Islam?
