(By Mary Abdelmassih for PCP) A scandal was uncovered this week at an Upper Egyptian elementary girl's school, where a Muslim teacher has been sexually assaulting Christian Coptic children. Copts are enraged due to the impunity with which the State Security authorities have dealt with these crimes.
The last incident took place on Tuesday 3/3/2010 in the Helwa Girl's Elementary School, when Arabic teacher Hany Taha, lured 11-years-old Hanan Adel Aziz to the school's lower ground floor and dragged her into the washroom. She was later rescued by another Muslim teacher when he heard her distressed screams. The village of Helwa lies in the district of Matai, 200 km south of Cairo, in the Minya Governorate.
"Hany Taha has been targeting only the school's Christian minor girls and has five 'known rape precedents' in the same school. However, the guardians of the children were put under pressure to accept a reconciliation using both coercion and threats not to report the incidents, according to activist Mariam Ragy of Katiba Tibia advocacy after interviewing Adel Aziz, the victim's father. Aziz said that the Muslim teacher lured his daughter from the classroom under the pretext that her aunt who works mornings in the same school is waiting for her. Ragy said that the accused Muslim teacher used to work in a private school before being sacked due to the same pervert behavior. "Also two transfer resolutions from this school were issued against him but were waived due to the "the existence of a family relationship between the headmistress and the brother of the accused, said Ragy. "
"Ironically, only 3 months ago did teacher Taha rape the Coptic minor Magda Bochra Shaker from the same school. Her family was forced into reconciliation with the intervention of the school headmistress," said activist Medhat Klada of Copts United advocacy. [...]
Adel Aziz told Mariam Ragy that he is being put under pressure to reconcile with the perpetrator. "But I flatly refuse any kind of reconciliation. This is a matter touching on my honor, Taha ought to get the full brunt of the law."
Copts all over the Minya Governorate, are angered over the double standards used by the Security authorities in handling rape cases of Muslims and Christian girls.
End November 2009 [sic], provoked by a rumor of an alleged rape of of Muslim minor by a Coptic man, villagers in Farshout carried out collective punishment against the whole Coptic community in the area, burning and looting their homes and property, with Muslims asking for the death penalty to be carried out on the alleged molester Girguis Baroumi. In all these incidents, State Security forces were colluding with the Muslim vigilantes.
Activist Wagih Yacoub poses the question, "Did the Copts go out and collectively punish the Muslims of Matai by burning and looting their property, just for the action of that Muslim teacher, similar to what the Farshout Muslims did to the Coptic community?" He adds "The constant State Security interference, coercion of Coptic parents into reconciliation and withdrawal of their police report against the Muslim Taha, makes one wonder if they are not there just to protect the abuser? Is the State Security there to protect all citizens or just the Muslims?"

This is, if I am reading the report correctly, a *Christian* father.
*His* definition of 'honor' involves justice and truth and the defence of the innocent victim (his daughter).
He will NOT murder his raped daughter, as a Muslim father would; instead, he is digging in his toes, and calling for justice to be done; for the RAPIST to be punished.
You will observe that this report of a blatant case of Muslim cruelty and injustice inflicted upon the Coptic Christians of Egypt, was published in *the Pakistan Christian Post* - that is, the Pakistani Christians are reading a report which will help them to see that the Muslims in Egypt are doing exactly the same things toward the minority Christians, that Muslims are doing to non-Muslims - Christian, Hindu, Sikh - in *Pakistan*.
And how much jizya do we pay the Egyptian government?
Could we at least make it conditional on equal treatment for the Copts?
According to political Islam expert Bill Warner, 61% of the verses in the Koran denounce unbelievers. He explains that there is no Golden Rule in Islam for unbelievers. Infidels are described (98:6) as the "vilest" of creatures. As Warner has stated in his online lecture series, which I found fascinating, there is no concept of "humanity" in Islam, only two camps: believers and unbelievers.
It is hardly surprising, therefore, to read these stories of abuse of non-Islamic minorities in Muslim countries. What's also interesting, but subtler, is how this intolerant mentality translates into abuse of Muslims as well. Robert has addressed that question by pointing out that Muslims can simply denounce each other as heretics (takfir), thereby triggering the abuse against the designated unbeliever.
To generalize, it seems obvious that intolerance and hatred are simply poisonous human qualities to encourage; they corrode society, which is why all other major religions discourage such sentiments. It must have taken eons for people to learn those lessons the hard way. Yet, here is Islam, a kind of throwback to the bad old days with its primitive, retrograde morality.
This is an example of how the dualism in Islamic ideology provides a peculiar kind of shelter for evil behavior. This rapist has thrived under a religion that crudely demonizes non-Muslims. Because non-Muslims are demonized, they can be raped with impunity, as we see not only in this news story, but again and again in news stories from around the globe, stories of how non-Muslims become easy prey for any Muslim who has a thieving, raping, or murdering propensity. The thieves, rapists, and killers need only claim that the victimized non-Muslims committed blasphemy against Islam or Muhammad, and then the Islamic police or judicial authorities, who often refuse to help non-Muslim victims in any case, will hold off their hands from the criminal, or even jump on the predator bandwagon and help out. Islam thus becomes a shelter for rapists, and for every kind of sadism, as long as the sadism is inflicted on non-Muslims. This insane pseudo-morality can be seen in a number of core Islamic texts.
In Sahih Bukhari, the most canonical of hadith collections, Muhammad said, "Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him."

And under shari'a all Muslim men are given license and indeed *trained* to abuse Muslim females, and any Muslim males weaker than themselves, in exactly the same way as all Muslims (male or female) are given license and *trained* to abuse non-Muslims.

I think it flows from the broader Dominator-Dominated, Master-Slave zero-sum-game paradigm that suffuses Islam.
I guess I was not thinking so much of explicit rules, here, as of the overall 'atmospherics'.
For example, the widespread sexual abuse of prepubescent males by older males that has been so shocking to Western soldiers in Afghanistan. It seems to be completely condoned.
I'm also thinking of Nonie Darwish's 'Cruel and Usual Punishment', the sixth chapter entitled 'a dictator's dream', where she talks about the nature of what she calls 'the sharia state'.
EARLIER in the book, in a section called 'the roots of sharia', she observes that the caliph was explicitly exempted: under sharia he could steal, murder, commit adultery and drink alcohol, with impunity. And she remarks that at least one of the codifiers of sharia who placed the caliph above the law, was subsequently murdered... by the caliph. That was the caliph; but the same exemption seems to have overflowed to other Muslim rulers, large and small. Nonie notes that throughout the Muslim world, those in positions of power tend to be able to do just about anything to those below them, so long as they continue to identify as Muslim.

Excellent point. And that impunity seems inevitable in a culture that rejects democracy and freedom. Hierarchy trumps all. How odd, since Islam supposedly rejects idolization so fervently.
But of course it doesn't really reject idolization, it focuses idolization on the Qur'an and Muhammad.
