Egypt scraps synagogue ceremony after Jews provoke "the feelings of millions of Muslims in Egypt and across the world"

How did they do that? By allegedly dancing and drinking alcohol inside the synagogue -- which sounds as if it could have been an ordinary and reasonable celebration under the circumstances. But Egyptian officials preferred to portray it as the dhimmis getting out of line. After all, how would it look to be rededicating a synagogue in Cairo while their Palestinian brothers are ratcheting up their jihad against Israel?

"Egypt scraps synagogue ceremony after 'provocative' acts," from AFP, March 14 (thanks to all who sent this in):

CAIRO (AFP) - Egypt cancelled the formal opening Sunday of a renovated 19th-century synagogue in Cairo to protest what antiquities chief Zahi Hawass said were "provocative" Jewish and Israeli action.

Hawass and Culture Minister Faruq Hosni were due to attend the event, a week after 150 people, including rabbis and the US and Israeli ambassadors, attended the rededication of the Maimonides synagogue.

Hawass, citing press reports, said in a statement that the cancellation comes after "provocative" acts during the March 7 ceremony in Cairo's ancient Jewish quarters by the Jewish community.

He referred to "dancing and drinking alcohol in the synagogue, as reported by several newspapers" and said these acts "were seen to provoke the feelings of millions of Muslims in Egypt and across the world."

The decision was also taken at "a time when Muslim holy sites in occupied Palestine face assaults from Israeli occupation forces and settlers," Hawass said.

He was referring to clashes at Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and plans to include two contested West Bank holy shrines on a list of Israeli heritage sites. Hawass said this was also a "provocation."

The synagogue of Maimonides, known in Egypt by its Arabic name of Musa bin Maymun, is named after the 12th century Jewish scholar, philosopher and physician.

Egypt began restoration of its Jewish sites several years ago....

guess they would be really pissed at scene of Jesus drinking wine among his followers. what does not get a muslim enraged? probably beheadings excites them.

"Probably beheadings excite them."

Yeah, probably. Their false prophet beheaded, and any heinous, immoral act he engaged in is to be emulated and admired.

Stonings probably excite them as well. As a contrast, though I've rented "The Stoning of Soraya M," it still hasn't found connection with my DVD player as I fear watching the Islamic horror. Yeah, Christianity and Islam - they're just so "morally equivalent," aren't they?

Bloodthirstiness is a huge component of Islam. What's that "festival" where they cut their children and bloody them up?

In reply to the first two comments - is it any wonder that jihadis circulate videos of beheadings of kuffars? "Snuff" videos like that are big hits in the Muslim world.

Drinking and dancing? I'm surprised it took that much to elicit this expression of outrage. In the mohammedan mindset simply having a pulse is a 'provocative act' if it's a Jew who's heart is beating.

Seriously, is there is anything that does not "provoke the feelings of Muslims"?

This stuff is like reading from a well-thumbed copy of a script called "Outrage for Professional Victims".

I see that, like most Muslims talking about "provocative acts", Zahi Hawass claims to speak on behalf of "millions of Muslims in Egypt and across the world." When Muslim offence is concerned, there are no distinctions of the "moderately offended" or "radically offended" - they're all offended throughout the Ummaah.

Co-ordinated Muslim "offence" is now so regular that there must be some form of email contact or website to organise the "offence".

Presumably, "at a time when Muslim holy sites in occupied Palestine face assaults from Israeli occupation forces and settlers" is the local Egyptian equivalent of "waging war on Islam and Muslims"?

How has islam offended me?

Let me count the ways!

The synagogue of Maimonides...
.................

It is instructive to follow the travails of Moses Maimonides, the brilliant medieval Jewish scholar, whom this synagogue is named for.

First he and his family were forced to flee Muslim Al-Andalus (Spain) in 1149 because the Almohades threatened the Jewish community with the choice of conversion to Islam, death, or exile.

He and his family settled in Fez, Morocco. The persecution of dhimmis was so dire there that he and his family posed as Muslims in public.

As a scholar of rising fame, Maimonides' status as a practicing Jew became known, and an informant had Maimonides charged with apostasy from Islam.

He was finally able to prove that he had never truly practiced Islam. Despite being exonerated, Maimonides and his family had to flee Fez.

In Egypt, the Sultan found Maimonides useful as a physician, and so he was able to survive—on the sufferance and protection of a powerful Muslim.

His 1172 Epistle to the Jews of Yemen Maimonides advised his persecuted Jewish brethren that forced conversions they reported in Yemen duplicated those that Berbers had also forced upon Jews across the Maghreb and Spain.

Maimonides referred to Mohammed as "the Madman," despairing that the objective of his "invented ... well known religion," was "procuring rule and submission...." Arabs and Muslims had "persecuted us severely, and passed baneful and discriminatory legislation against us," he later wrote.

"Never did a nation molest, degrade, debase, and hate us as much as they, although we were dishonored by them beyond human endurance..."

This incident with the Maimonides synagogue is just one more incident in the long, depressing history of Muslim persecution of Jews.

I think Islamic strategists have hived their minds.

Who owns the mosque? The antiquties people, excited about the restoration as only antiquties geeks can be, know that their efforts are subject to the political pleasure of political Islam. The Jews must have felt comfortable enough where they could celebrate by dancing and drinking.

Egyptian authorities knew they would set up a big event and then cancel it. It was always a political event.

No one is surprised.

What do people not get. Islam controls other faiths and those of no faith. You will have no freedoms if you continue to allow Islam to dominate local culture and individual freedoms.

The perfect man and role model Mahound said no drinking, and no dancing, and if you don't want boiling lead poured into your ears , don't listen to any songstress...There's a hadith about Mahound and his merry men beating up a drunk, hitting him with shoes and palm stems, simply because he was drunk...

So if drinking and dancing provoked Mahound, the behavior of the Jews, 'was' insulting to millions of Mahoundians everywhere...what a provocation...I can feel their pain...so I'm going to take two strong pain killers and go to bed...I will feel better in the morning...

So easily offended; impossible to mollify. A great formula that is seemingly impossible to stop. Therein lies the magic of the tireless, tiresome Moslems.

*** 8:7 ***

Maimonides referred to Mohammed as "the Madman," despairing that the objective of his "invented ... well known religion," was "procuring rule and submission...."

That madman invented and put into action the greatest perpetual motion machine ever conceived.

That's why he named his machine Submission.

That would be the "holiest day" of "Ashura."

It is toward the bottom of the page on this link.

Warning - it ain't pretty:

Darcy, that would be the barbaric Shi'ite Festival of Ashura. Here are some pictures of Muslims bloodying themselves and their own children:

Nice Guy

Zahi Hawwas, head of the Egyptian Antiquities Council, wrote in Al-Sharq Al-Awsat that the "Jews of Palestine" are murderous by nature: "The concept of killing women, children and elderly people... seems to run in the blood of the Jews of Palestine. [In fact,] it seems to have become part of the false faith of this people, who is tormenting us in our [own] homeland.

"When I speak of the Jewish faith, I do not mean their [original] faith, but the faith that they forged and contaminated with their poison, which is aimed against all of mankind... The only thing that the Jews have learned from history is methods of tyranny and torment - so much so that they have become artists in this field. They have done to the Palestinians what Pharaoh and Sargon [of Akkad] did to the Jews..."

I hope that you are not dancing, as drinking and dancing appear to be the equivalent of an Islamic Double Whammy!

What a lovely couple.

Remember: Culture Minister Faruq Hosni last year desperately tried to become Director General of UNESCO, before he was beaten by Bulgarian Irina Bokova.

Hosni boosted the restauration of the synagoge only to improve this career oportunity. Of course Egypt denied it.

More on Hosni:

"Hosnis candidacy for the post of director general of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation has been mired in controversy amid charges of anti-Semitism after comments he made in May 2008.

"I'd burn Israeli books myself if I found any in libraries in Egypt," he said in response to a question in parliament."

Shiva wrote, quoting Zahi Hawass:

And what, according to Muslims, was the "original" faith of the Jews, before they 'corrupted' it? Why, it was Islam!

This is how Muslims claim figures from the Torah as "Muslim prophets".

It appears that Jews are always trying to ruin things for muslims. I read the other day that after defeating the jews in a war Muhammed liberated a jewess after killing the father and brother during a fight.

So grateful was she that she married Muhammed; they made sweet love and then she asked to cook for him. It was at this point she cooked mutton and poisioned the food, making Muhammed very ill.

Now I am not a supporter of Islam or the muslims, but if you have been liberated and made love with your liberator it is indeed very rude to then try poision him.

Narrated Anas bin Malik

Anas reported that a Jewess came to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) with poisoned mutton and he took of that what had been brought to him (Allah's Messenger). (When the effect of this poison were felt by him) he called for her and asked her about that, whereupon she said: I had determined to kill you. Thereupon he said: Allah will never give you the power to do it. He (the narrator) said that they (the Companion's of the Holy Prophet) said: Should we not kill her? Thereupon he said: No. He (Anas) said: I felt (the affects of this poison) on the uvula of Allah's Messenger. (Sahih Muslim, Book 026, Number 5430)

People are you Really surprised that jews are hated after this sorry episode. I am no muslim, but even I felt sorry for muhammed.

Ladies and gentlemen

'Mr Barcode' is 'Naseem'.

The posting above clinches it.

It's a Muslim, dda, but I think it's male.

What makes you think it's Naseem? I use "it" on purpose.

Thanks for the links on "Ashura," gravenimage and Heidi - the images portray barbaric savages, Mohammedans, enjoying their ritual blood-letting. How repellent.

I think it's 'Naseem' because the tone and phraseology are the same. Look at the second paragraph in its posting immediately above: I'm pretty sure that that entire paragraph, with the line about making 'sweet love', is identical with a posting 'naseem' made here, oh, ages ago.

Naseem! long time no hear since you were caught in that big lie saying you were expelled from posting here but it turned out you quit on your own in protest of something someone wrote (like all you kind you hate free speech) - But I'll tell you what - if someone killed my husband in front of me and they enjoyed raping be after that horror (killing someones husband is so sexually stimulating!) I, being a 100 pound lady, would say, "Wow! that was wonderful - you are better than my husband. You, Mohammad, have set me free from him, so if you want to marry me it would make me so happy you big boy you!" And then I would put the worst poison I could find in the bastards dinner, and hope that he was going to have his best friends over for dinner that night (Because you know for sure what savage religion his best friends belong to). And then I would laugh and laugh as he pooped blood in pain on the floor.

About what Sargon of Akkad did to the Jews. He lived # 2300 BC, supposedly even before Abraham, who often is thought to have lived # 1800 BC. Perhaps Zahi Hawass means Sargon of Assyria. He who terminated the Kingdom of Israel in 722 BC in a most cruel way.

I don't know if this helps, but I wanted to express my surprise at what Zahi Hawass, such a renowned TV-personality and expert on ancient Egyptian history, said.

Exactly Hal Barton!

Barcode should ask his Muslima employees what a Palestinian beauty is supposed to do when her father and brother were killed in the Israeli-Palestinian struggle, in a righteous or unrighteous way, and an Israeli general had sex with her immediately afterwards and took her to serve in his household. And then Barcode should ask what the Muslima would think if the captured lady tried to poison the general.

If she can exonerate Mohammed on his bastardly, insensitive behavior and feel pity for HIM, not HER, than if she wants to avoid double standards, she should extend the same courtesy if Israeli Leaders ever did such a thing. which they don't, but they get vilified for far less and the Palestinians excused for even graver crimes than poisoning, with arguably much less justified motives.
